Week 9 SEC editors selections: Can Texas A&M upset Ole Miss?

Week 9 predictions from the SEC Wire editorial team.

Week 9 in the SEC will feature the return of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, Florida when the Bulldogs and Gators meet. There will only be one meeting of top 25 teams when No. 3 Tennessee hosts No. 17 Kentucky in Knoxville.

After losing to South Carolina in Columbia, the Texas A&M Aggies set their sights on evening their record at .500. Jimbo Fisher and company will host No. 12 Ole Miss. This game features Lane Kiffin facing off with his former defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, who left Oxford for College Station after Mike Elko took the Duke head coaching job.

“We got outbid,” Kiffin said about Durkin leaving for Texas A&M. “Kind of common theme with that program.” Looks like there will be no shortage of fireworks in this matchup. Ole Miss is coming off the loss to LSU where they were outscored 42-3 from the second quarter until the final gun went off.

Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt are on their open week. As we do each week, the SEC editors on the College Wire network make their predictions for each conference game on the schedule.

Five biggest Week 9 games with CFP implications

Florida-Georgia among the five must-see games this week with CFP implications.

As the calendar prepares to turn to November, we have one more week of college football games set for kickoff in October. The race for one of the four spots in the College Football Playoffs is starting to heat up with some massive matchups that could make or break some team’s cases for the annual four-team tournament.

Surprisingly enough the Florida Gators are among the big matchups but not to make their case for the CFP. They have an opportunity to play spoiler against their biggest rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs.

In my top five games with CFP implications, we have matchups in the Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC. So which games should you circle this weekend? Let’s dive into it.

Georgia down two starting safeties after Lewis Cine ejected for targeting

UGA football is down two starting safeties for the Georgia-Florida game after Lewis Cine was ejected for targeting on Kyle Pitts.

Georgia safety Lewis Cine has been ejected for targeting.

That leaves UGA without its two starting safeties for the remainder of the game.

Cine’s hit camp with roughly 9 minutes remaining in the first half. He delivered a huge blow to Florida superstar tight end Kyle Pitts.

It was really just an unfortunate play. Cine was clearly not trying to do anything illegal, but more so just get lower than his opponent. Instead, he and Pitts got low at the same time and it resulted in an ugly play.

Georgia takes lead with pick-six, Florida immediately ties it again

UGA football regained the lead in the Georgia-Florida game thanks to an Eric Stokes pick-six.

Boom! Georgia regained the lead in the second quarter thanks to an Eric Stokes pick six on 3rd and 10.

Stokes stepped right in front of the comeback route, bobbled it and then took it back to the house for his second pick-six of the year.

Watch it here:

UPDATE:

Two plays later and we are tied at 21-21 again.

Florida hit a 50 yard wheel route and then a 25 yard touchdown pass to Kyle Pitts on the right sideline.

Georgia QB Stetson Bennett goes to locker room. Who’s next?

Georgia football QB Stetson Bennett left for the locker room in the first quarter of UGA vs Florida. Who replaced him?

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett left for the locker room in the first quarter of the game against Florida.

It looks like an injury to Bennett’s right shoulder. He took a huge shot on his touchdown pass he made to Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.

Taking his place is D’Wan Mathis, who opened the season as the UGA starter before pulled for Bennett against Arkansas.

Bennett’s start to the game was pretty consistent with his play as of late. No turnovers, but some missed passes and a dropped snap that killed his final drive.

UGA WR scores TD, suffers gruesome leg injury

UGA football WR Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint scored a TD during the Georgia-florida but suffered a nasty leg injury.

You absolutely hate to see this.

During the first quarter of the Georgia-Florida game, UGA true freshman wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint scored on a third down touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead early.

However, things took a turn for the worst as Rosemy-Jacksaint entered the end zone, as his leg snapped backwards.

He needed to be carted off the field.

Rosemy-Jacksaint is a true freshman St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

You can watch a replay here.

Watch: Zamir White takes it 75 yards for the TD on first play

Watch as UGA football RB Zamir White takes it 75 yards to the house on the first play of Georgia-Florida.

Wow! On the first play from scrimmage, Georgia running back Zamir White went 75 yards to the house.

The Bulldogs take a very early 7-0 lead.

Florida is coming off a 41-17 blowout win over Missouri last week and looking to improve upon their 3-1 record so far this season. Georgia is also coming off of a not so impressive win against Kentucky, 14-3 as they look to build on their 4-1 record this year.

This should make for a fun, high scoring affair today,  you won’t want to miss it! Here is everything you need to know to stream the game tonight.
