Best Julian Champagnie highlights from 2023-24 Spurs season

Check out some of Julian Champagnie’s best highlights from the 2023-24 San Antonio Spurs season.

It was a tough season for the San Antonio Spurs from the standpoint of wins and losses, but overall, it wasn’t all bad. They got to take a look at a bunch of players to see who they want to roll forward with. Obviously, there was Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan, but there were also some role players that stepped up.

Julian Champagnie got to step into a larger role at times throughout the season. Most notably, he started a bunch of games for the Spurs as they dealt with injuries and tested out different lineups. The 22-year-old is under contract for three more seasons, but the first two years aren’t fully guaranteed, and the final is a team option.

The Spurs’ official YouTube channel recently posted a video documenting Champagnie’s best highlights from his 2023-24 season with the Spurs.

In 74 appearances for the Spurs (including 59 starts), Champagnie averaged 6.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.8% from the field and 36.5% from behind the three-point line.

Julian Champagnie discusses Spurs’ tough loss to 76ers

After the San Antonio Spurs’ loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Julian Champagnie spoke about what went wrong.

For the past few weeks, the San Antonio Spurs have been playing at a much higher level than they had been for the remainder of the year. Despite sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, they look like a completely different squad and have been competing with some of the better teams in the league.

On Sunday night, they welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to town for a Joel Embiid-less matchup, as the star big man ended up sitting out of this game. Unfortunately, the 76ers outlasted the Spurs in overtime by a score of 133-126. Tyrese Maxey exploded for 52 points.

After the game, Spurs forward Julian Champagnie spoke about what went wrong for the Spurs. (H/t ESPN)

“Their intensity definitely picked up, in the second overtime especially,” Champagnie said. “I think we could have handled it better.”

Champagnie finished the game with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals while shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond three-point line.

Best of Celtics wing Justin Champagnie in the G League in 2022-23

Welcome to Boston, Justin!

The Boston Celtics have filled their final open roster slot with a player who will be eligible to play for the ball club in the 2023 looming NBA Playoffs, in this case, former Sioux Falls Skyforce forward Justin Champagnie.

Fans of the Celtics may not recall the Pitt alum’s game all that well given his limited run at the NBA level, though some may recall him hitting some buckets against the Celtics while he was with the Toronto Raptors last season. This campaign, the former Panther wing has played most of his games with Sioux Falls, where he put up 18.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.

To get a better idea of how he plays and can help Boston, or to see the best of his play again, take a look at the compilation put together by fan videographer Tomasz Kordylewski that we have embedded below.

Spurs claim recently waived Sixers G Julian Champagnie off waivers

The San Antonio Spurs have claimed recently waived Philadelphia 76ers guard Julian Champagnie off waivers.

Just before the All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers waived Julian Champagnie to create roster space to sign Mac McClung to a two-way deal.

Champagnie played in just two games for the Sixers before being waived. He spent most of his season in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats. There was no clear path for Champagnie to earn more playing time.

In the middle of a rebuild, the San Antonio Spurs swooped in and claimed Champagnie off waivers. The Spurs offer him a chance to develop and earn the court time necessary to become a rotation player in this league.

While in college at St. John’s, Champagnie averaged 19.2 points and shot 45.7% from the floor in his third collegiate season. While the Sixers couldn’t offer him an opportunity to play, the Spurs do. Now he just has to take advantage of the opportunity.

Player grades: Tyrese Maxey shines as Sixers knock off Nets in preseason

Tyrese Maxey has a big night as the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Brooklyn Nets in the preseason opener on Monday.

NEW YORK–The Philadelphia 76ers opened up the preseason action on Monday when they hit the road to take on the Brooklyn Nets. Training camp was over and it was time to hit the hardwood against somebody other than themselves.

The Sixers were down Joel Embiid, James Harden, and PJ Tucker in this one to manage their load while Danuel House Jr. was out due to a stiff neck, but they had Tyrese Maxey who was terrific in his 14 minutes of action. The young man out of Kentucky had 20 points on 6-for-8 shooting and he knocked down all six free throws with two triples as Philadelphia took the game by a score of 127-108.

Paul Reed had 10 points and five rebounds, Furkan Korkmaz had 15 points and four assists, Tobias Harris had nine points in 16 minutes, and Montrezl Harrell had 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out in 12 minutes. Isaiah Joe had nine points and Georges Niang had eight off the bench as well while Julian Champagnie had 15 points.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Sixers 3 goals: Julian Champagnie will have to develop in G League

Philadelphia 76ers two-way player Julian Champagnie will have to develop his skills in the G League.

In this new series, Sixers Wire looks at the 19 players that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 17 currently under contract and the two players on two-way deals — and give each three goals for the 2022-23 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 18, and training camp begins on Sept. 27. Now is the time to begin previewing the season and get everybody set for a new adventure of Sixers basketball. Philadelphia will have to trim a few players as the active roster limit is 15.

This edition will focus on one of the team’s one two-way players, Julian Champagnie. After going undrafted out of St. John’s, Champagnie signed a two-way deal with the Sixers shortly after the draft back in June and he played in summer league with Philadelphia. He averaged 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2 assists during his junior season with the Red Storm. That performance comes a season after he earned the Big East Most Improved Player award for the 2020-21 season.

For Champagnie, his three goals for the 2022-23 season are as follows:

Sixers 2022-23 projected depth chart with PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr.

Here is the projected depth chart for the 2022-23 Philadelphia 76ers after the additions of PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr.

The last time the Philadelphia 76ers were seen, they were exiting the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons after a loss to the Miami Heat in Game 6 at home.

After the defeat, the Sixers went to work rather quickly in the offseason as they made a trade on draft night to acquire De’Anthony Melton and then they brought in PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency. They also signed Trevelin Queen, but Tucker and House Jr. are expected to make a bigger impact at the moment.

While there still could be some moves on the way, at the moment, the Sixers are a good basketball team on paper. It’s time to go through the projected depth chart and see what the Sixers could look like in the 2022-23 season.

Observations from Sixers’ Summer League finale against Bulls

The Sixers had some good moments on the offensive side of the ball, but they committed 21 turnovers and gave Chicago enough looks at the basket to score an average of 30 points per quarter in what was nearly a record-setting 119-104 defeat.

The Philadelphia 76ers faced off with the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night in Las Vegas Summer League action. It was the Sixers’ final game of the summer circuit. The Sixers had some good moments on the offensive side of the ball, but they committed 21 turnovers and gave Chicago enough looks at the basket to score an average of 30 points per quarter in what was nearly a record-setting 119-104 defeat.

Charlie Brown Jr. scored 21 points on 10 field goal attempts and 7 free throws. He also registered 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

Grant Riller supplied 19 points on 10 field goal attempts and 6 free throws off the bench.

Here are some observations form the Sixers’ loss.

Observations from Charles Bassey, Sixers in SLC summer win over Jazz

Here are some observations as the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Utah Jazz in the Salt Lake City summer league win on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia 76ers continued their Salt Lake City summer league tour on Wednesday when they took on the Utah Jazz looking to bounce back from a loss on Tuesday. They would have to do so without the services of Paul Reed, Isaiah Joe, and Jaden Springer who all sat out in this one due to reconditioning.

With those players being out, it allowed others to chine and show off some of their game. It also allowed Trevelin Queen to make his summer debut with the Sixers and it allowed Charles Bassey to do more with Reed sitting out. The result was an 86-82 win over the Jazz with Bassey scoring 17 points and nine rebounds.

Charlie Brown Jr. had 12 points and two steals, Queen had 15 and four rebounds, and Cassius Winston added 11 and six assists. Myles Powell had 13 and four steals off the bench while Julian Champagnie pulled down 10 rebounds for Philadelphia in this one.

Here are some observations from the summer league win:

Report: Sixers to sign undrafted Julian Champagnie to two-way deal

The Philadelphia 76ers will sign St. John’s Julian Champagnie in a two-way deal.

The 2022 NBA draft is in the books and the Philadelphia 76ers made their big move by trading their No. 23 pick, along with Danny Green, to the Memphis Grizzlies in order to acquire De’Anthony Melton. It is a win-now move to help on their chase for a title.

With that being said, now is the time to take a look at some potential undrafted players who can try and make an impact with the Sixers in the Las Vegas Summer League as they move forward with their careers.

The Sixers will sign St. John’s Julian Champagnie to a two-way deal after the draft. He averaged 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his junior season with the Red Storm and he won the Big East Most Improved Player award in the 2020-21 season.

Champagnie will look to move forward and make an impact in the summer league with the Sixers. He is probably going to head to the G League once the season begins, but he just needs an opportunity to prove himself at this level. The Sixers will offer it to him.
