XFL at the midway point: How are ex-Giants faring?

A look at how several former members of the New York Giants are faring in the XFL as the league hits the midway point of its season.

The XFL returned for its third iteration this year and is now being run by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The season is officially through five weeks — their midway point — and there has been some solid action and interesting moments, many of which have a distinct New York Giants flavor.

Nearly 25 former Giants are playing in the league (several others coaching) and they have made their presence felt. In fact, several of the current league leaders are ex-Giants.

Here’s a look at how some of those players are faring.

Browns host 10 players for workouts on Friday including Kenny Stills

The Browns hosted 10 free agents for tryouts today, including veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills

We found out earlier this morning the Cleveland Browns were hosting former Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Prince Emili. However, it turns out the Browns actually hosted 10 players today, and one of them was veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills.

All-in-all, the Browns hosted a quarterback, an offensive tackle, three defensive tackles, two running backs, and three wide receivers. The three defensive tackles are the clear emphasis here, especially after the Cleveland defensive interior was torn to shreds against the Atlanta Falcons.

We take a look here at each of the ten players and give a bit of background on each of them.

Dolphins make slew of roster moves to get down to 85 players

There were no surprises cuts in this round.

On Tuesday, all 32 teams have to get their rosters down from 90 players to 85 by the 4 p.m. ET deadline, and the Miami Dolphins did so early on Tuesday despite adding players on Monday.

To get down to 85 players, the Dolphins announced that they’ve waived center Cole Banwart, wide receiver DeVonte Dedmon and defensive lineman Jordan Williams. They also placed tight end Adam Shaheen on injured reserve and waived/injured cornerback Tino Ellis.

Banwart was a long shot to make the team with Adam Pankey getting more opportunities than him as the third center, and Michael Deiter returning healthy to practice last week.

Dedmon was brought in mostly for his return abilities in the CFL, but Lynn Bowden Jr. and Preston Williams did that during the preseason game, and Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have solid resumes in that area as well.

Jordan Williams, a rookie undrafted free agent, only got 10 snaps on Saturday, and other defensive linemen proved more than he did with their opportunities.

Shaheen was traded to the Houston Texans just over a week ago, but a knee condition voided the trade and sent him back to Miami. It’s interesting that they’re keeping him on injured reserve rather than flat-out releasing him, as Shaheen is in the last year of his deal.

Ellis, who was signed just a few weeks back, was waived but with an injury designation, so if he goes unclaimed he’ll revert back to Miami’s injured reserve. He went down during the preseason opener with a lower-body injury.

2022 Dolphins position preview: Breaking down DLs ahead of camp

There probably won’t be too many changes this year.

Entering the first training camp under head coach Mike McDaniel, the Miami Dolphins don’t have Brian Flores to rely on for their defense.

Flores, with his defensive background, was given a ton of credit for the team’s success defensively, but without him, they’ll turn to defensive coordinator Josh Boyer, who is returning despite the change at head coach. Most of the same players on defense are also returning for 2022 and are ready to compete for their roles.

We’ve talked about quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends and the offensive line, but now, we’re jumping over to the other side of the ball and breaking down the defensive lineman.

Video shows UFC welterweight Jordan Williams stop man from stealing his car

A would-be car thief got more than he bargained for when he tried stealing the car of a UFC fighter.

A would-be car thief got more than he bargained for when he tried stealing the car of a UFC fighter.

On Wednesday, UFC welterweight [autotag]Jordan Williams[/autotag] shared surveillance video of an incident that took place outside of a gas station in which a man attempted to steal his car. Williams was in the gas station’s convenience store when the man successfully entered his car, started it and was able to back up, but he didn’t get far. When Williams realized what was happening, he charged the driver’s side, opened the door, and threw some knees while grabbing onto the man before throwing him out of the card.

The video shows the man wisely running away and grabbing his forehead as he fled the scene.

Williams released the footage and shared his account of what happened on Instagram:

So someone tried to steal my car today 😐
#thatfannypacktho

If you are wondering why my car was still on its the same reason why he couldn’t drive away, I have a push to start and my car won’t go unless the keys are within 5 ft of it and I have them on me always. Needless to say my lesson was learned and I hope so was his.

Wish I would of hit him with the trip after the clinch work when I tossed him out of the whip, and finish off with some ground and pound but I’ll settle with getting my car back 🤦🏾‍♂️

Also I know you see the stillness of that fannypack, fannyback game was on point this could be a commercial for them 😂

This isn’t the first time a would-be thief picked the wrong person’s car. In May, Derrick Lewis was forced to take action when he stopped a man from breaking into his truck. He posted an image of his bruised knuckles, suggesting that he had to take matters in his own hands until Houston police arrived to the scene.

Williams, a Dana White’s Contender Series alum, was last seen in the octagon in July when he was submitted by Mickey Gall in his welterweight debut.
