Ian Machado Garry puts pressure on Colby Covington, posts video claiming UFC fight contract signed

Ian Machado Garry says he’s done his part. Now it’s up to Colby Covington to make their UFC fight official.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] says he’s done his part. Now it’s up to [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] to make it official.

Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that he has signed a contract to fight Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) but has yet to hear back from the long-time UFC welterweight contender.

“What’s up, everyone?” Garry said in a short video. “It’s Tuesday the 9th of April at 10 past (1 pm). I have agreed to fight Colby Covington. There is a date in place, (but) Colby still hasn’t signed the contract.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5jAJkBuuna/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D

The UFC hasn’t made anything official, and there hasn’t been confirmation on contracts being sent out to both fighters. Garry and Covington have been teasing a fight for several weeks and have taken many shots at each other social media.

This all started after Garry’s most recent win at UFC 298 in February. In his post-fight interview after defeating Geoff Neal, the Irish contender called out Covington, who eventually responded to his challenge but said he’d only fight Garry if he met three stipulations.

Garry was not keen on playing Covington’s games and said the stipulations were a way for Covington to coward out of the fight.

Now the pressure apparently is on Covington.

Daniel Cormier: Colby Covington has to ‘stand behind his words,’ fight Ian Machado Garry

Daniel Cormier thinks Colby Covington not fighting Ian Machado Garry would be a bad look.

[autotag]Daniel Cormier[/autotag] thinks [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] not fighting [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] would be a bad look.

Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) accepted Garry’s initial callout, but put some stipulations – which included that his wife Layla be featured in one of his fight prediction videos for his betting sponsorship. The pair have since been going back-and-forth, but Garry is no longer confident that Covington actually wants to fight him.

However, Cormier says the multiple-time title challenger has reached a point where he has to fight Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC).

“What does Colby Covington fight for today as a guy who’s fought for championships his entire career? What motivates him? It would seem to be the big fight,” Cormier said of Covington on his YouTube channel. “Does the Ian Garry fight feel like that to him? It should, because competitively, you’ve got to beat the guy that wants to be the up-and-comer because regardless of what you think of Ian Garry, he can fight. It doesn’t matter what you think of someone’s personality or anything. You have to respect the skill level, and Ian Garry has a very high level of skill.

“Colby Covington, after the fight with Leon Edwards, may not be looking forward to being in there with another long, rangy striker. But the actions say: ‘Let’s fight.’ Now it’s time to put pen to paper. They have to fight because when you hurl the insults and you say that man’s name, and you constantly talk about him, his life outside the octagon, when you now start taking personal shots at Colby’s political views, now you’ve got a fight. I believe that International Fight Week works perfect.”

Cormier points to Covington’s past rivals as examples. Covington doesn’t often acknowledge those who call him out, but now that he’s addressed Garry, Cormier wants to see them settle the score.

“When he spoke about Kamaru Usman in weird ways or disrespectful ways, he fought Kamaru Usman,” Cormier said. “When he talked about Leon Edwards, he fought Leon Edwards. When he talked about anyone, he fought him if that was an option. … If you are going to take this role, or play the villain in everybody’s story, the villain always has to get his comeuppance, where he has to step in front of the sword and fight.

“He’s got to step into that battlefield and he’s got to show that he’s willing to stand behind his words. I think that’s where we are now with this Colby Covington-Ian Garry deal. Colby’s got to stand up on his words now and go fight that man. If he beats him, now we still continue to think that he’s in the championship picture.”

Ian Machado Garry says ‘coward’ Colby Covington hasn’t said yes to fighting him: ‘He’s trying to avoid me’

Online videos were exchanged, but Ian Machado Garry doubts Colby Covington actually wants to fight him.

Online videos were exchanged, but [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] doubts [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] actually wants to fight him.

Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) called out Covington after defeating Geoff Neal at UFC 298, and Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) eventually responded to his challenge – but with stipulations.

Covington’s stipulations were surrounding Garry’s wife, Layla, but Garry thinks the former interim champion is just trying to delay the process.

“Weak – it was weak,” Garry told Sky Sports on Covington’s video. “That’s the truth, and we came back with a better clapback. I thought it’s weak considering that he didn’t mention me. Nothing was to do about fighting me.

“This is the thing: He’s trying to avoid me. He doesn’t want to talk about the fight. He’s a man of excuses. The truth is, let’s see if he signs the contract. Let’s see if he steps into the octagon, or if he just tries to run, or if he just tries to extend it and make it. In my mind, he’s a coward.”

Garry can’t say there are ongoing negotiations with the UFC to fight Covington, and if the fight doesn’t materialize, it won’t be because of him.

“I can tell you I’m the one who called him out in the octagon,” Garry said. “I’m the one who’s been hounding the UFC. He hasn’t said yes. That’s it. It’s on him. He hasn’t signed no contract. It’s on him.”

Garry threw a stipulation of his own, paying homage to TKO Group Holdings Inc.’s WWE’s “I Quit” match, in which he wants the loser to never compete in MMA again.

“I’m going to make Colby say (‘I quit’) – that’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to have him, pounding his face on the canvas. I’m going to point his face at Donald Trump, and I’m going to be like, ‘Say it – say it to your president. Don’t say it to me. Say it to Trump. I want him to look into your eyes when you say (“I quit”).'”

Video: Colby Covington doubles down on stipulations to fight ‘cuck boy’ Ian Machado Garry

Colby Covington doubles down on the stipulations needed in order for him to accept a fight with Ian Garry.

If you thought [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] was going to back down, you thought wrong.

Once again, the former UFC title challenger has taken to social media to double down on the insane stipulations he placed on [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] in order for them to fight each other.

Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) called out Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) last month following his win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298. A month later, Covington responded saying that Garry needed to do the following three things: Open up his Instagram comments, have Garry’s wife and manager Layla beg him to fight Garry, and also having her featured in one of his fight prediction videos for his betting sponsorship.

This, of course, triggered a video response from Garry, who refused to do any of the stipulations Covington put in place. Now, Covington has doubled down, saying those three things need to happen in order for him to accept a fight with the Irishman.

Below is Covington’s latest response to Garry:

Colby Covington: Mike Tyson tarnishing legacy with Jake Paul boxing match, ‘shouldn’t be fighting anymore’

Colby Covington thinks Mike Tyson has no business being in the ring at his age and hopes he “makes it through injury-free.”

[autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] thinks [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] has no business being in the ring.

Tyson (50-6) will be 58 when he faces YouTuber-turned-pro boxer Jake Paul (9-1) on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will stream live on Netflix.

Going up against someone 30 years younger than him, Covington fears for Tyson’s health.

“I don’t like it at all,” Covington said on SOSCAST w/ Adam Sosnick. “Mike still looks like a superhuman for (57), but he’s still (57) years old. He shouldn’t be fighting anymore. I don’t think it’s safe. I think it’s dangerous at that age. Your heart might explode. He gets hit in the head, he might have a brain bleed. … I hope Mike Tyson makes it through injury-free and doesn’t get hurt.

“I don’t like the fight. Jake is in his mid-20s. He’s doing every chemical known to man. He’s literally a lab project. They’re just juicing him up, him and his brother. Everybody knows that. The machine is behind him, juicing him up, putting every chemical known to man. So, I think it’s going to end bad.”

Covington sees Paul scoring a quick finish of Tyson, which he thinks would ruin his reputation.

“I think Jake is going to probably knock him out within the first two minutes,” Covington continued. “If he doesn’t, it’ll be because he’s carrying him and he’s trying to make the freak show look like it’s a competitive fight.

“I hate the fight. I think it takes away from Mike Tyson’s legacy when a guy like this comes in and beats him, a YouTuber comes in and beats the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ and the most feared man.”

Colby Covington reacts to Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz boxing match: ‘Sloppy, old f*cking dudes’

Colby Covington ripped Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz after the announcement of their boxing match.

[autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] ripped [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] and [autotag]Nate Diaz[/autotag] after the announcement of their boxing match.

Former UFC stars Masvidal and Diaz will square off in a 10-round, 175-pound boxing match June 1 at Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The bout will stream on Fanmiopay-per-view at a $79.99 price point ($49.99 for pre-orders through April 12).

Covington, Masvidal’s former foe, pulled no punches when reacting to the news of their fight.

“I mean, just two complete washouts of the UFC that are 40 years old should be in retirement homes,” Covington told Submission Radio. “They’re going to go out there, these sloppy, old f*cking dudes, like, they can’t perform in the UFC no more at this high elite level like me and at the top of the division. They both f*cking got 10 seconds of fame in the UFC, you know, living off these fights from 10 years ago. So, let them go do the thing. I mean, if the UFC is signing off on it, I’m all about whatever the UFC signs off on.

“I could care less about Jorge. He needs to stop talking to my big brother Chael though. Man, guys, that’s the real fight. Like, why is he talking to Chael? Everybody’s calling what I did to Jorge was the easiest fight of my life. I f*cking smacked that little scrub around and f*cking play with him. He’s my little b*tch, little brother. I mean, imagine my big brother, uncle Chael, the wrestling gangster, the biggest biceps in martial arts industry. Like, imagine if he got a hold of him. Chael would f*cking squash Jorge like a little f*cking bug.”

Covington scored a lopsided win over Masvidal in their grudge match in March 2022. Just a few weeks after, Masvidal was arrested for attacking Covington outside a Miami restaurant.

‘Keep Layla’s name out your mouth’: Ian Machado Garry returns fire at Colby Covington with ‘I Quit’ challenge

Rising UFC star Ian Machado Garry channeled his inner Will Smith and told Colby Covington to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] says [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] can take his stipulations, crumple them up, and throw them out the trash.

In a response video Sunday, Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) went off on Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and issued a challenge of his own. Garry didn’t take kindly to Covington’s objectivization of his wife, Layla.

“Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington, you’re in no position to tell me what I should be doing in life,” Garry said in a video on Instagram. “You’ll do as you’re told. You gave me three stipulations – all of which have nothing to do about fighting. They were all talking about my wife. I don’t know how you were raised but women aren’t property and my wife definitely ain’t no trophy. You should be focusing on me. I’m the one who is in that Octagon with you. I’m the one who’s going to punch a hole in your head. So stop swerving me and keep Layla’s name out your mouth. You’re not America’s favorite fighter. What you are is a peak under-performer. You’re the only person in UFC history to lose three world title fights, and you haven’t got a single win against anybody in the top 15 right now.”

Garry called for a fight vs. Covington after his win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in February. Covington most recently competed in a failed title bid vs. Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in December.

Following Garry’s callout, Covington responded with a video, in which he said he’d accept the challenge – but only if Garry opened his Instagram comments, Layla begged him to fight, and Layla featured in one of his videos.

Garry thinks he has a better idea than that. With a callout more commonly found in TKO Group Holdings Inc.’s WWE than UFC, Garry challenged Covington to an “I Quit” match.

“So Colby, why should I fight you? I can think of one reason,” Garry said. “I challenge you to an ‘I Quit’ match, where one of us has to say, ‘I quit.’ And whoever says the words, ‘I quit,’ has to retire, gloves off, center of the Octagon. Sayonara, my friend. I’m going to be the final chapter in your legacy of failure. I am going to rid the UFC of Colby Covington for good and I’m going to make MMA great again.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/C4n6e9GROSi/

Garry, 26, has yet to lose as a professional. UFC wins include Neal, Neil Magny, and Daniel Rodriguez among others.

Covington, 36, has only competed three times since November 2021. He’s 0-3 in UFC title fights, including the loss to Edwards and two to Kamaru Usman. He’s won twice since 2020, against Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal.

Colby Covington responds to ‘translucent cuck’ Ian Machado Garry: ‘You wanted my attention, now you got it’

Colby Covington finally issues a response to Ian Garry’s callout, and has three conditions for acceptance.

[autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] has finally issued a response to [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag]’s callout.

It’s been almost a month since Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) took the microphone to request a fight against Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) following his win over Geoff Neat at UFC 298. At first, it was crickets from Covington, but that finally changed on Wednesday when Covington took to X to address Garry’s comments, all while taking jabs at Garry’s personal life.

“Ian Garry, you translucent cuck, you wanted my attention, now you got it,” Covington said in a video. “Everybody knows why you want to fight me, Ian. I’m the biggest star in the division. It’s big city, bright lights, and the most attention and eyes you’re ever gonna have on you when I fight. …

“Everyone knows what’s in it for you, Ian, but what’s in it for me? Why do I have to go down in the rankings and fight some Casper-The-Ghost looking Irish kid who has a gold-digging wife? Let’s come to a compromise. If you can meet these three stipulations, we have a fight.”

Covington, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in December, said three things need to happen in order for him to fight Garry.

These things involve Garry opening up his Instagram comments, having Garry’s wife and manager Layla beg him to fight Garry, and also having her featured in one of his fight prediction videos for his betting sponsorship.

You can watch Covington’s full response to Garry above.

Jorge Masvidal rips ‘lying piece of sh*t’ Colby Covington for accusing UFC 296 judges of being anti-Trump

Jorge Masvidal REALLY hates that Colby Covington tried to, as he puts, blame his most recent title-fight loss on Donald Trump.

[autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] jumped on the opportunity to pile on rival [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag].

Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296 – a fight he thought he won. Covington claimed the judges were against him because of his support of former U.S. President [autotag]Donald Trump[/autotag]. Covington also shared an X-ray that later revealed he broke his foot in Round 1, which hampered his performance.

Masvidal, who’s also an adoring Trump supporter, went off on Covington for using Trump’s name to make excuses.

“For starters, I never met such a f*cking hoe in my life, such a b*tch, you know?” Masvidal told BroBible of Covington. “He doesn’t know anything about politics. He literally just attaches his name to Trump, hoping that Trump will one day tweet his name or maybe show up to a fight and things like that, but the guy literally knows nothing about politics, knows nothing about immigration laws knows, nothing about 401(k)s, about foreign policies, domestic policies. He knows nothing. All this guy f*cking does is throw his money away, f*cking gambling on poker and pay for prostitutes to be in his f*cking video.

“So for him to go out there and involve Trump’s name so much and then say, ‘The judges don’t like me because I roll with Trump, and they robbed me because of Trump,’ you’re a f*cking piece of sh*t. Now you’re blaming the f*cking greatest president this country has ever seen. You’re blaming your f*cking sh*tty ass loss (on him). You didn’t do a damn thing and everybody says – even your mom f*cking says – you’re a f*cking bum. You’re going to blame that on Trump because you’re such a f*cking bum. You’re a piece of sh*t. It just shows who he is, and of course now he has a broken foot. Guy’s a f*cking cheating, lying piece of sh*t, cop-calling motherf*cker, and I can’t wait to see his ass.”

Masvidal’s disdain for Covington comes as no surprise. Masvidal lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Covington in March 2022, but their beef didn’t end there. Shortly after the loss, Masvidal was arrested for attacking Covington outside a Miami restaurant.

This past November, the former BMF champion pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge as part of a plea deal to have two felony charges of battery and criminal mischief dropped.

Ian Machado Garry: I will rid UFC of ‘piece of sh*t’ Colby Covington once and for all

After UFC 298, Ian Machado Garry had harsh words for Colby Covington, a matchup he wants next.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] doesn’t want a title shot gifted to him. He wants to earn it step by step.

The next test after Saturday’s UFC 298, in Garry’s eyes, is clear. It’s [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag], and Garry wants to inflict significant damage.

“I’m going to beat Colby Covington like we’ve never seen before,” Garry told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “Then I want a top-three opponent, someone who is in that title contention, because the truth is, Colby’s biggest claim to fame is he’s fought for three world titles and he’s lost all three. He’s not as good as people think he is. You get beaten by a young, up-and-coming prospect, one of the best we’ve ever seen, the truth is you don’t come back from that.”

On paper, the fight might look like a pretty standard striker vs. grappler to the outside observer. Garry warned the masses should not to sleep on his ground game, particularly with how vengeful he feels toward Covington.

“I’ll match him pace-for-pace on cardio,” Garry said. “I’ll match him for output. He doesn’t possess anywhere near the power Geoff Neal does. He has great wrestling. Cool, put me on my back. I’m training with Demian Maia. See what happens if you put me on my back. I’ll choke him unconscious. I promise you, I will end that fight. I will finish that fight and I’ll rid UFC of Colby Covington once and for all. He needs to be gone. I’m sick of his nonsense. He’s a piece of sh*t.”

[lawrence-related id=2716769,2716192]

Both Covington and Garry have been booed in their careers, perhaps more than most. For Garry, the hatred is still a bit new. At face value he refuses to reject it, as was the case when the Honda Center drowned out his in-cage interview with boos after his split decision win over Geoff Neal. Garry is going to keep doing his thing, regardless.

“I don’t care whether people love me or hate me,” Garry said. “I’m doing what I love. I’m a kid who had a dream and I’m up here living it. I watched Conor go through everything that he went through. I just want it. That’s the life I want to live. I want to put on a show. I want to fight for a living. I want to travel the world and train with the best coaches in the world, the best teammates on the planet.

“I’m living the dream and there’s no one who can wipe that smile off my face. There’s still nobody in the world who can take that 0 off me. I’m going to keep proving that. Whether they love or hate me, whether they cheer or boo, if my hand gets raised, I’m still going to become a world champion whether they like it or not.”

Covington is 2-3 in his most recent five five. All three losses came in title fights. He most recently competed at UFC 296 in December, when he lost a unanimous decision to welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
