According to the numbers, Jamahal Hill delivered a record-setting beatdown of Glover Teixeira to claim gold at UFC 283.

The first numbered UFC event of 2023 proved to be a good one. Two new champions were crowned Saturday at UFC 283 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

The main event of the organization’s return to Brazil after nearly three years saw [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) deliver a lopsided beatdown of [autotag]Glover Teixeira[/autotag] (33-9 MMA, 16-7 UFC) to win a unanimous decision and claim the vacant light heavyweight champion.

Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 283 took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $359,500.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 283 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $359,500.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC 283 took place at Jeunesse Arena in Brazil. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ABC and ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

Jailton Almeida kept his 100% finish rate in tact and added more hype to his name with a dominant win at UFC 283 in Brazil.

RIO DE JANEIRO – [autotag]Jailton Almeida[/autotag] delivered another dominant performance at UFC 283, this time against his most experienced opponent to date in [autotag]Shamil Abdurakhimov[/autotag].

Almeida (18-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) had his way with Abdurakhimov (20-8 MMA, 5-6 UFC) from the outset, scoring early takedowns and establishing top control through the first round of the heavyweight bout at Jeunesse Arena. He picked up where he left off in Round 2, getting on top of his opponent and landing a prolonged streak of ground-and-pound until the referee waved it off by TKO.

With the win, Almeida stayed unbeaten under the UFC banner. He has two wins at heavyweight and two wins at light heavyweight thus far, and has finished his foe in all 18 of his career victories.

Despite his success, Almeida isn’t making any callouts.

“I’ll be ready for whoever wants it,” Almeida said through an interpreter in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.

The UFC returns to Brazil for the first time since March 2020 on Saturday with UFC 283, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas with a main card that airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ABC and ESPN+.

A championship doubleheader will close out the promotion’s first numbered event of the year. The strong start to Chris Daukaus’ octagon tenure continued with his biggest win to date against Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 266.

Daukaus (12-3 MMA, 4-0 UFC) produced a signature result for his resume on Saturday when he gave Abdurakhimov (20-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) a rude welcome back from a lengthy break from competition courtesy of a violent second-round TKO at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After nearly putting Abdurakhimov away in the closing seconds of the first round after a big knockdown, Daukaus came out and showed his killer instinct in the second frame. He dropped his Russian foe a second time, but wasn’t him letting get up as he pounced and landed vicious shots until referee Mark Smith decided he’s seen enough.

Daukaus has now produced four consecutive wins to begin his UFC career. Only interim champion Ciryl Gane (seven), champion Francis Ngannou (five), and Marcin Tybura (five) have longer active streaks at heavyweight.

Given that, Daukaus said he wants a notable fight next.

“I finished him twice in this fight,” Daukaus said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “Stipe … the winner of Rozenstruik vs. Blaydes tonight, or the winner of Volkov and Tybura.”
