UFC on ESPN 53 Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay: Main event combines for $22,000

UFC on ESPN 53 fighters took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay, a program that continued after the UFC’s deal with Venum.

LAS VEGAS – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 53 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $148,000.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC on ESPN 53 took place at the UFC Apex. The card aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,530; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $53,000 while title challengers get $53,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-53 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC on ESPN 53 video: Youssef Zalal thrives in octagon return, becomes first to tap Billy Quarantillo

After his first octagon run ended in a four-fight winless skid, Youssef Zalal returned with a statement performance at UFC on ESPN 53.

[autotag]Youssef Zalal[/autotag] promised a better version of himself for his second stint under the UFC banner, and things got off to a promising start Saturday at UFC on ESPN 53 when he submitted [autotag]Billy Quarantillo[/autotag].

Zalal (14-5-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) saw his first run with the company end in August 2022 on a four-fight winless skid. He worked his way back, then thrived with the new opportunity when he threatened Quarantillo repeatedly with submissions until he finally locked in a rear-naked choke that got the tap at the 1:50 mark of Round 2 at the UFC Apex.

Zalal, 27, was overcome with joy in the aftermath of becoming the first person to submit Quarantillo in MMA competition. He has big plans moving forward, and intends to live up to the career goals he set for himself from the outset.

“I’m really too good,” Zalal said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “The first time I was in the UFC, I told you guys I would be a world champion and will be a world champion. I just didn’t have the confidence.”

Billy Quarantillo appreciates Youssef Zalal’s skills, but has clear idea of UFC on ESPN 53 plan

Billy Quarantillo thinks he has his UFC on ESPN 53 opponent figured out.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Billy Quarantillo[/autotag] has visions. He’s in them. He’s looking into the mirror to see a little bit clearer … and he thinks he has his next opponent figured out.

Quarantillo (18-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) takes on Youssef Zalal (13-5-1 MMA, 3-3-1 UFC) in a featherweight fight on the UFC on ESPN 53 main card Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Quarantillo was scheduled to fight Gabriel Miranda until he pulled out, so Zalal answering the call kept him on the card.

“I looked up his record. I watched some of his fights back. He was someone that I remembered in 2019, 2020, that I thought we were going to get matched up,” Quarantillo said at Wednesday’s media day.
I think we were both 3-0 at one point. Then I forgot about him because he wasn’t in the league (yet).”

They didn’t cross paths in Zalal’s first stint in the promotion, which included seven fights – but a four-fight winless skid to close it out. But he’s back in the UFC after three straight first-round finishes outside the organization.

Quarantillo said he doesn’t see any areas he’ll be lacking come fight night.

“As an opponent, I think he’s got a lot of skills. I don’t think this is a great matchup for him, though,” Quarantillo said. “He was talking about how he felt like he beat (new featherweight champion) Ilia Topuria (in 2020). I did not score it for him at all. He got taken down five times. He hasn’t beaten anyone with a winning record in the UFC. I think he’s 0-3-1 in his last four UFC fights. I do respect his skill set and I do know he’s entering his prime. He’s only 27. I have a lot of respect for him and everyone at his gym, but I see it a little more clear than other people see it, and I think I see it more clear than he sees how his career’s gone so far.”

Bill Algeo sees a fight with Billy Quarantillo happening, but on his terms.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Bill Algeo[/autotag] sees a fight with [autotag]Billy Quarantillo[/autotag] happening, but on his terms.

Algeo (18-7 MMA, 5-3 UFC) called out Quarantillo amongst other names after defeating Alexander Hernandez (14-7 MMA, 6-6 UFC) in this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 229 main card opener at the UFC Apex.

Quarantillo (18-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) was quick to respond, suggesting December for a potential fight.

“I’m downnnnnn… didn’t take much damage down for December? @ElSenorPerfecto.”

“Tell him to shut the f*ck up,” Algeo told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “We’ll fight when we need to. I think he’s fighting Nate Landwehr – I thought I saw that, or at least they’re chirping at each other.

“We were supposed to fight before, so that’s why this fight makes sense. We both fought Alexander Hernandez. He finished him before I did, but I landed a lot more strikes because I also fought double the amount of time, but whatever. We’ll fight at some point.”

Algeo has now won four of his past five, but isn’t concerned with his placement in the featherweight division. He just wants to continue putting on entertaining fights and cashing in extra paychecks.

“Just keeps me moving up the chain,” Algeo said. “It just cements my job as a UFC fighter. As long as I can keep having good fights and keep making money, I’m happy. I don’t really care about numbers too much or belts or anything like that.

“I’m just here to provide for my family, my future kids, and just continue to make a name for myself, grow my student base, grow my fanbase, and just really prove to myself the things I’m working on are working. Stay at it. Let’s go.”

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.
