The Arlington Renegades (4-6) defeated the D.C. Defenders (9-1), 35-26, on Saturday night to claim the XFL championship. And that improbable victory means several former members of the New York Giants get a ring.

Among them is former Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, who served as the Renegades’ co-defensive coordinator, and former Giants linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan, who coached linebackers in Arlington.

Also receiving an XFL ring is safety Will Hill, who played for the Giants from 2012-2013 and had a ton of potential but was routinely suspended for violating the NFL’s policy and program for substances of abuse.

Other ex-Giants to pick up an XFL title in 2023 include offensive lineman Garrett McGhin (2022), cornerback Darren Evans (2022) and safety Joe Powell (2016).

In the 35-26 Renegades victory, Evans made five tackles (four solo), while Hill picked up three tackles (two solo) and one pass defensed, and Powell recorded three tackles (one solo) and a key interception off of Hill’s deflection.

Ex-Giants shined during 2023 XFL regular season

The 2023 XFL regular season has come to a close and several former members of the New York Giants shined bright.

The 2023 XFL season is now in the history books with the league moving forward with playoff football. But it’s never too early to look back and see which players dominated throughout the year.

More than 25 former members of the New York Giants suited up for the XFL’s third iteration and many of them were among those who shined.

Here’s a quick look at those Giants, how they fared, and where they stacked up against the XFL’s other competition (if the numbers are noteworthy enough).

XFL at the midway point: How are ex-Giants faring?

A look at how several former members of the New York Giants are faring in the XFL as the league hits the midway point of its season.

The XFL returned for its third iteration this year and is now being run by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The season is officially through five weeks — their midway point — and there has been some solid action and interesting moments, many of which have a distinct New York Giants flavor.

Nearly 25 former Giants are playing in the league (several others coaching) and they have made their presence felt. In fact, several of the current league leaders are ex-Giants.

Here’s a look at how some of those players are faring.

7 XFL players the Ravens could target

With XFL players free to sign with NFL teams, here are seven names the Baltimore Ravens could be interested in during free agency

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted sports all across the world with several big-name events being delayed or even canceled. One such event was the 2020 debut campaign for the XFL, which stopped after just five games. With the spring league cutting its inaugural season short, any players who took part are now allowed to sign with an NFL team, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.

For many of the XFL’s players, playing a handful of live games this spring has allowed them to put some tape together and hopefully impress both scouts and general managers. Plenty of small school prospects that likely just got missed previously got a chance to show what they could do against some standouts.

With the NFL in the middle of free agency and a whole new market of players opened up to sign, here are seven players the Baltimore Ravens could be interested in bringing aboard.

WR Cam Phillips

Phillips played for the Houston Roughnecks and ending up leading the XFL in all three major receiving categories. Phillips finished the season with 31 receptions for 455 yards along with nine touchdown catches.

Phillips was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in 2018 although he did spend most of that season with the Buffalo Bills. Phillips played two games for the Bills, catching his only target for nine yards.

The Ravens need to get more out of their wide receivers in 2020 and haven’t really addressed the position in the early stages of free agency. Phillips’ production for the Roughnecks makes him a player that should certainly be on the radar of most NFL teams.

Ex-Giant Will Hill dominating in the XFL

Former New York Giants safety Will Hill is dominating the XFL and is the early front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year.

The XFL is home to several former members of the New York Giants, but perhaps one of the most prominent is safety Will Hill of the St. Louis BattleHawks.

Hill initially signed with the Giants in 2012 after spending a season with the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League, which came on the heels of going undrafted in 2011.

Despite his talent, there were questions about Hill’s maturity and decision-making after a series of questionable videos were posted online during his time at Florida.

Those concerns proved to be warranted as Hill was suspended multiple times during his stint with the Giants, while also dealing with several off-field incidents, including an arrest over the failure to pay child support.

After being released by the Giants, Hill signed with the Baltimore Ravens, but again found himself in hot water after being suspended 10 games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

In 2015, the Ravens released Hill, who then went on to played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL and the Orlando Apollos of the AAF.

Now in the XFL, Hill is again dominating on the field. He is sixth in the league with 33 tackles (four for a loss), adding three QB hits, two passes defensed and two crucial, game-changing interceptions.

At the mid-way point of the season, CBS Sports believes Hill is the Defensive MVP.

Defensive MVP

St. Louis BattleHawks S Will Hill: Houston linebacker Demarquis Gates nearly made this a clean sweep for the Roughnecks, but Hill has been a Swiss Army weapon for the BattleHawks’ defense. The safety has 33 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 3 sacks, so he’s capable of coming up in the box or on a blitz and making an impact. On the back end, he has a pair of interceptions and pass deflections. Just about every player has had at least one “off” week, but Hill has been consistently great through five games.

Hill was also named to CBS Sports’ All-XFL Midseason Team alongside a few other ex-Giants: offensive lineman Damien Mama, running back/return specialist Austin Walter and safety Rahim Moore.
