7 Georgia Bulldogs taken in CBSSports’ full NFL mock draft

CBS Sports released a full NFL mock draft that included 7 Georgia football players being taken.

Most NFL mock drafts that we’ve seen over the past couple of months have had 2-3 Georgia football players going in the first round.

However, in CBS Sports’ most recent 7-round mock draft, the outlet has just one Dawg taken in the first round, and that’s left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Analyst Chris Trapasso projects the New York Jets to take Thomas with the No. 11 overall pick in the NFL Draft, which is currently scheduled for April 23 in Las Vegas.

On Thomas, Trapasso wrote:

Jets GM Joe Douglas knows how vital an offensive line is after his time in Philadelphia. Thomas was outstanding the two seasons at Georgia and has length for days.

Trapasso has Thomas ranked as the 15th overall player in the draft class and 4th ranked offensive tackle.

In total, Trapasso has seven Georgia players going in the draft.

Round 2:

Robby Anderson tabbed as potential Bills free agent target

Schofield stays within the AFC East and highlights New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson as a player whom the Bills should consider in the free agency period.

Touchdown Wire has named a player familiar to the Buffalo Bills as a possible free agent target in the coming weeks. Staying in the AFC East, the suggestion is New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson.

The Bills are in need of bolstering their wide receiver corps. With top free agents Amari Cooper and AJ Green as longshots at this point in the process, Buffalo will fall to the next tier of receivers, which is how TD Wire lands on Anderson to the Bills:

The Buffalo Bills took a big step forward in Josh Allen’s second season as a pro quarterback. While Allen still has room to grow as a quarterback, acquisitions such as Cole Beasley and John Brown helped Allen become a better timing- and rhythm-based passer.

Anderson has been consistent during his four years in the league, averaging between 14 and 15 yards per reception during each season. Anderson averages 51.8 receptions per season and 764.8 receiving yards per season. These figures would put him in line to be a good complement for incumbent wideouts John Brown and Cole Beasley.

Anderson would give the Bills a stronger threat in the vertical passing game. While Robert Foster fulfilled this role two years ago, the lack of a connection between quarterback Josh Allen and his deep threats was in stark contrast with Allen’s rookie season. The true need for a burner to stretch the field will expand the pressure this offense exerts on opponents. Pro Football Focus highlights that Allen was 23rd (out of 24 qualified passers) in adjusted completion percentage on deep throws.

Improving this aspect of the offense will give the aerial attack more space to work in the intermediate passing game, an area that Allen made strides in last year. Anderson, 26 years old, would give the Bills a young yet experienced player out wide.

However, there’s the issue of if the Jets are interested in bringing him back. Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com writes that New York could make a late push to re-sign the wideout.

If Anderson does hit the open market, the receiver could earn in the area of $12 million per season, as highlighted by Spotrac’s market value calculator. Buffalo, with copious amounts of cap room, will weigh how that number fits into their long-term plans.

Arizona Coyotes at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Arizona Coyotes at Winnipeg Jets sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Arizona Coyotes (33-28-8) travel to Manitoba to meet the Winnipeg Jets (35-28-6) at Bell MTS Place Monday at 8 p.m. ET. We analyze the Coyotes-Jets sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Coyotes at Jets: Projected starting goalies

Darcy Kuemper vs. Connor Hellebuyck

The Coyotes have eased Kuemper back after a lengthy absence due to a knee injury, but he’s likely to make his third start within a week. He is 10-3-1 with a 2.03 goals against average and .932 save percentage in 14 starts on the road. He allowed two goals on 40 shots in a 4-2 win in Winnipeg back on Oct. 15, too.

Hellebuyck is on fire, as he posted his league-leading sixth shutout with 29 saves in a 4-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights Friday. He improved to 29-21-5 with a 2.59 GAA and .921 SV% through 54 starts and two relief appearances. He has four of those shutouts at home, and he is 17-11-3 with a 2.44 GAA And .924 SV%. He was on the losing side of the Oct. 15 game against the Coyotes, yielding four goals.

Prediction

Jets 4, Coyotes 1

Moneyline (ML)

The JETS (-125) are playing really good hockey lately, and they have wins over the Golden Knights and Washington Capitals to prove they could be quite a danger in the playoffs, as well. They’re a bit expensive on the moneyline, however, thanks mostly due to Hellebuyck’s hot streak. Look to the puck line for a better value.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Jets to grab the road win returns a profit of $8, while a $10 wager on the Coyotes (+105) nets a profit of $10.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The JETS (-1.5, +220) are a much better play on the puck line. In fact, in each of their past five victories, they have also covered the 1.5-goal spread. They’ve gone 10-1 on the puck line in their past 11 victories. The Coyotes (+1.5, -278) were a monster on the road earlier this season, but they’re just 2-11 across their past 13 games away from the desert.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-121) is worth a small-unit play. The Under has connected in four straight for the Jets, as Hellebuyck has been yielding next to nothing. The opposition has totaled just four goals across his past four outings, while the Jets have posted 3.0 goals per game during the span. Winnipeg’s goaltending situation is driving this bet, and the play is ‘Under’.

AFC East offseason: Jets’ Quinnen Williams arrested at airport

Buffalo Bills’ AFC East rival, New York Jets, DT Quinnen Williams arrested.

The New York Jets offseason is not off to a hot start. With free agency just around the corner, the team has to worry about their 2019 first-round pick, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

On Thursday evening, Williams was arrested LaGuardia Airport in New York, Jets Wire reports. Williams was charged with illegal possession of a handgun.

Williams was boarding a flight with a Glock 19 handgun when he was arrested. Williams had a permit for the gun in his home state of Alabama. It is illegal to carry a handgun in New York City without a city license.

Williams was the third-overall pick in last year’s draft and was on the only defensive tackle selected ahead of the Bills’ Ed Oliver at No. 9 overall.

The Jets acknowledged they were aware of the situation but had no further comment.

The 22-year-old’s arrest comes after an underwhelming rookie season.  In 13 games, Williams recorded only 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He battled injuries during the first pro season as well.

Buffalo Sabres at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Buffalo Sabres at Winnipeg Jets sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Buffalo Sabres (29-28-8) invade Bell MTS Place Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET to battle the Winnipeg Jets (33-28-6). We analyze the Sabres-Jets sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Sabres at Jets: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Connor Hellebuyck

Hutton has been rather erratic this season, although he is 12-12-4 overall with a 3.18 goals against average and .898 save percentage. He started the season on a winning streak, he endured an ugly slide from late October through January, and picked up the pace in February in place of the injured Linus Ullmark. The 34-year-old is 6-5-0 with a 2.93 GAA and .907 SV% in 11 starts and 12 appearances since the All-Star break.

Hellebuyck has rolled up a 27-21-5 record, 2.67 GAA and .919 SV% through his 52 starts and two relief appearances with five shutouts. He has been slightly better on home ice at 15-11-3 with a 2.58 GAA and .920 SV% with three shutouts. Hellebuyck and the Jets just tackled the Sabres in Buffalo Feb. 23, and they were on the short end of a 2-1 decision.

Sabres at Jets: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:20 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Jets 4, Sabres 2

Moneyline (ML)

The JETS (-175) are moderate favorites on home ice against the Sabres (+145), as they look to avenge the 2-1 setback in Buffalo. The Sabres have managed just the one win in seven previous Western Conference battles, and they’re a dismal 14-46 in their past 60 games on the road. Winnipeg has won five of their past seven on home ice, and they’re 10-3 in the past 13 as a home favorite.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Jets to grab the road win returns a profit of $5.70, while a $10 wager on the Sabres results in a profit of $14.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The JETS (-1.5, +150) are a good value on the puck line, as I expect them to play much better in this one than they did in Buffalo. Plus, the Sabres are a dismal 5-13 in their past 18 trips to Winnipeg, as MTS Place has been a house of horrors. A small-unit play is more than warranted.

Over/Under (O/U)

The trends are all over the board. The Under dominates for the Jets, while the Over has been the rule for the Sabres lately. The Under hit in the first meeting, but if I had any lean it would be to the Over. Still, the best move is not to play. AVOID.

2020 NFL Futures Betting: AFC East Division Winner

Analyzing the 2020 NFL futures odds for which team will win the AFC East Division, with sports betting picks, tips and best bets.

For the last two decades, the AFC East has belonged to the New England Patriots. Since the 2003 season, the Patriots have won the division every year, except for the 2008 season when Tom Brady tore his ACL. The Patriots still went on to win 11 games that season, but it was the Miami Dolphins who wore the AFC East Crown.

Will things change in 2020 in the AFC East as Brady could be on the move? Could another team sneak up and pass the Patriots inside the division? Here are the betting odds for each team to win the AFC East in 2020.

2020 AFC East odds: New England Patriots (-304)

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Monday, March 2 at 5 p.m. ET.

As expected, the Patriots are currently big favorites to win the AFC East for the 12th straight season. However, these odds are lower than usual as the Brady situation hangs over the fate of the entire franchise.

Even if the Patriots were to lose Brady, their defense, along with coach Bill Belichick makes this team tough to bet against. In all likelihood, Brady should return, and the Patriots will once again be one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. At their current odds, the Patriots are still a good bet to win the division. In fact, consider them a value play right now as Brady’s future is still in question.

2020 AFC East odds: Buffalo Bills (+325)

If you want to fade the Patriots, betting on the Bills at more than 3-1 to win the division isn’t a bad way to go. Under coach Sean McDermott, the Bills have gone 25-23 over the last three seasons. Their best year came in 2019 when they went 10-6 and made the playoffs.

Get some action on 2020 NFL division winners by betting at BetMGM. New customer offer: RISK-FREE First Bet (up to $500!) paid in free bets.

The Bills have an incredibly talented roster on both sides of the ball, but they need QB Josh Allen to continue to take steps forward as a passer. With their elite defense and top-tier run game, it’s reasonable to think Buffalo could reach double-digit wins in 2020. Don’t be afraid of betting on this hard-nosed Bills team next season.

2020 AFC East odds: New York Jets (+1000)

After the Patriots and the Bills, there is a big gap between the next tier of teams in the division. The Jets come in at 10-1 underdogs after finishing the season 7-9 last year. There is some optimism surrounding this team as it won six of the final eight games to finish the season. While the Jets defense played near an average level last season, it was their 31st-ranked scoring offense that held them back.

If the Jets can find some offensive line help to protect QB Sam Darnold, it wouldn’t be a shock to see this team sneak into the playoffs next season. However, the Jets are still a long way from topping the Patriots and the Bills and should be avoided at their current odds.

2020 AFC East odds: Miami Dolphins (+2000)

The Dolphins are 20-1 underdogs to win the East. While they are clearly still rebuilding the roster, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this team turned things around quicker than most expect. First-year coach Brian Flores was awfully impressive in the second half of the season as the Dolphins earned impressive wins against the Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and Patriots.

If the Dolphins can find their franchise quarterback this offseason and rebuild their roster with the plethora of picks at their disposal, don’t be surprised if this team makes a big leap in 2020. However, it does appear Miami is still one or two years away from challenging New England or Buffalo atop of the division.

AFC East offseason: Jets plan to keep Le’Veon Bell, Jamal Adams

What the Jets said about Le’Veon Bell, Jamal Adams at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine.

Since the 2019 NFL trade deadline last season, questions have swirled around the Jets and AFC East in regard to their star running back and safety, Le’Veon Bell and Jamal Adams.

Those rumors, questions and speculation continue to present day, months later. The current Jets general manager, Joe Douglas, answered some questions about the status about those two at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis.

On Bell, Douglas said via Jets Wire:

“There hasn’t been talk as far as him going anywhere,” the GM said. “We’re excited about Le’Veon. Le’Veon has been a great teammate. I can’t tell you how great he’s been. … We’re excited to have him.”

Jets head coach Adam Gase also discussed Bell in a praise-filled way.

“He’s been great for us,” Gase said. “He’s done everything I’ve asked him to do. He tried to do things the right way. What anybody else says, I think we’re to the point where we really don’t care. As long as our relationship is good, we’re good.”

On Adams, his contract needs extending as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Douglas said the team has had “some preliminary discussions” with Adams on an extension, adding that both the club and player want him to be a “Jet for life.”

The reasons for the bad blood differ. Bell was signed to a big contract by the Jets last offseason, but their former GM signed it and Gase was reportedly not on board with it. Douglas wasn’t the guy who signed Bell, so could he try and move him? On Adams, he was a player that the Jets also were reportedly “shopping” near the deadline, to the surprise of many. So there was some hurt feelings there.

But as things sit now… in February… those two with face the Bills next season.

New York Rangers at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Winnipeg Jets sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (27-23-4) and Winnipeg Jets (29-23-5) will mix it up at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Rangers-Jets sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Rangers at Jets: Projected starting goalies

Igor Shesterkin vs. Connor Hellebuyck

The rookie Shesterkin is confirmed to make his first NHL road start after going 5-1-0 with a 2.34 goals against average and .933 save percentage in his first six outings at home. This will be his biggest test yet against a red-hot offense and an All-Star goaltender at the other end.

Hellebuyck has posted a 24-16-5 record with a 2.67 GAA and .920 SV% with four shutouts to date. He’ll be tasked with ruining the return to Winnipeg of Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba, who was traded to New York in the offseason. Hellebuyck didn’t have much success in the first head-to-head meeting at Madison Square Garden in the Oct. 3 season opener, as Trouba had a season-high three points in the 6-4 win by the Rangers.

Prediction

Jets 5, Rangers 3

Moneyline (ML)

The JETS (-134) are favorites at home against the Rangers (+110), as they look for revenge after their loss in the first meeting at MSG. Winnipeg’s offense has been on fire lately, averaging 4.0 goals per game across the past five outings while going 4-1 straight up.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Jets to grab the road win returns a profit of $7.50, while a $10 wager on the Rangers results in a profit of $11.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The JETS (-1.5, +190) are worth a look at almost double money, as they’re rolling right along. The Rangers (+1.5, -239) are too risky and not worth a play if you’re looking for a little insurance on the road. While the road team is 9-4 in the past 13 meetings, the favorite has connected in each of the past four outings.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (+125) is a value play at this price level, especially since the Jets have been lighting up the scoreboard. The first battle in this series easily went Over, and this one will, too.

Winnipeg Jets at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Winnipeg Jets at Toronto Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Winnipeg Jets (23-16-4) and Toronto Maple Leafs (24-15-5) will do battle at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. We analyze the Jets-Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Jets at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck vs. Michael Hutchinson

Hellebuyck is the projected starter, and he puts his 19-12-4 record, 2.69 goals against average and .920 save percentage on the line. He earned a victory in Montreal on Monday night, stopping 29 of the 31 shots. However, he surrendered five goals on just 17 shots Jan. 2 in Winnipeg and was pulled by head coach Paul Maurice after two periods in favor of Laurent Brossoit.

Hutchinson is 3-6-1 with a 3.68 GAA and .892 save percentage overall, which isn’t terribly impressive. However, he has won three straight starts, including a shutout in his most recent assignment. He came on for Frederik Andersen on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers after the latter allowed three goals on 19 shots in 21:45 of ice time. Hutchinson originally came up through the Jets organization, so this will be extra special for him.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Jets 3

Moneyline (ML)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-189) are heavily favored to bounce back after having their 9-0-1 run interrupted by the Oilers on Monday, falling 6-4. The Jets (+155) are just 2-5 in the past seven overall, and 1-6 in their past seven against teams with a winning overall mark.

New to sports betting? Every $1.89 wagered on the Maple Leafs ML will profit $1 if they win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +135) are the play. However, I have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth after betting it and losing outright against the Oilers. Bettors have to have short memories, though, you know?

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+100) is the best bet in this game. The Over has connected in 11 of the previous 15 battles at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and 12 of the past 15 games overall in this series, including the battle last week at MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

Dolphins to hire former Bills coach Chan Gailey

The Miami Dolphins hired former Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey as their offensive coordinator.

The Bills will have a former head coach in their division next season, according to multiple reports.

On Monday, the Dolphins cleaned out a few assistant coaching positions. Of those, offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea was let go.

Miami head coach Brian Flores has apparently decided to bring in former Buffalo head coach Chan Gailey to run the team’s offense now. Gailey has been out of the NFL since 2016 when he held that same position with another AFC East team, the Jets.

Gailey was also the Dolphins offensive coordinator from 2000-01.

There is a silver lining here as well. The Dolphins will likely bring in a young quarterback option next season. Still, Gailey’s hiring bodes well for current starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. He’ll likely move to the backup role but Fitzpatrick played in Gailey’s system both with the Bills and Jets. The veteran QB would serve as a backup/ defacto assistant coach in the system with a young quarterback.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added to his report on Gailey’s hiring that the Dolphins new OC will “run the show and tutor whichever new QB comes in.” Miami owns the No. 5 overall pick along with the No. 18 overall selection (via PIT) in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft.
