Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm makes Buffalo Bills 53-man roster

Former Georgia football QB Jake Fromm has made the Buffalo Bills final 53-man roster ahead of the 2020 NFL season.

Good news came out of Buffalo, NY for Georgia football fans this Saturday.  Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has officially made the Buffalo Bills 53-man roster ahead of the 2020 NFL season.

Fromm, who ranks fourth all-time in passing yards (8,224) and second all-time in passing touchdowns (78) at UGA, made the cut over now free agent quarterback Davis Webb.

Fromm has a winning mentality that will translate very well to the NFL.  He helped lead the Bulldogs to Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl victories in his three seasons at Georgia.  He is a pro-style quarterback that will manage games very efficiently when his number is called.

The Bills now have three quarterbacks on their roster including starter Josh Allen and backups Matt Barkley and Fromm.

Bills GM: Jake Fromm selection does not ‘send message’ to Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane says that the selection of Georgia football QB Jake Fromm does not threaten Josh Allen’s starting spot.

In the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm.

The pick came as a surprise. Buffalo already has its definite starter under center in third year pro Josh Allen, who played collegiately at Wyoming.

Behind Allen on the depth chart is Southern Cal’s Matt Barkley.

The selection of Fromm, a decorated collegiate quarterback who went 35-7 during his three years at Georgia, is in no way a threat to Allen, said Bills general manager Brandon Beane. He said they took Fromm because ‘he was too good to pass up.’

The Bills GM was asked about the pick again recently.

Here’s his response:

“No, there’s no message at all,” Beane said. “We believe in Josh.

“That’s been the whole goal, to add weapons. We didn’t score enough points last year and that starts with me. Giving him and [offensive coordinator] Brian Daboll as much, as many weapons as we can. Adding Fromm was just… a guy that we had on our board that we really thought had a great college career and he’s very smart. He’ll add to the competition to backup Josh, but Josh is our entrenched starter.”

Don’t expect Fromm to take Allen’s starting spot. But if Allen goes down or struggles with his game, it will be interesting to see who gets the nod between Fromm and Barkley.

“I wouldn’t have told you going into today (draft day) that he was on our radar, but we had him in a spot that you just can’t ignore and we gave him his due,” Beane said. “This guy, he’s a winner at the highest level of college. You look at all the guys that come out of the SEC … He’s got all the intangibles. He’s smart.”

Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm receives new jersey number from Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have announced the new number for former Georgia football QB Jake Fromm.

Living in the bitter cold of Buffalo, New York, just on the border of Canada will definitely take some getting used to for the fishing, hunting country kid that is Jake Fromm.

Fromm was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills with the 167th pick.

The Bills announced the jersey numbers for their new incoming rookies on Thursday.

Fromm will wear #10 for Buffalo next season, saying goodbye to the #11 that’s been with him throughout his Houston County and UGA days.

#11 currently isn’t taken by anyone on the Bills. It will be fun to see Fromm in a new uniform with a new number, starting a new chapter of his career in Buffalo.

BillsWire gives Buffalo’s draft selection of Georgia QB Jake Fromm a grade.

Bills Wire has graded all of the team’s draft picks, including their round 5 selection of former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm.

Fromm was selected 167th, sliding a little bit further than expected. He was ranked as the top available player for be drafted for a while but was passed on due to specific positional needs for many teams.

The Bills pick came as a bit of a shocker, considering they likely have their franchise quarterback in Josh Allen, who is entering his 3rd season coming off of an AFC Wild Card loss.

BillsWire gave Buffalo a B for the Fromm pick.

They said his draft stock might have fallen a little bit due to his combine performance, but his in-game intelligence, solid career numbers and winning drive is what could make him look like a more attractive backup than Matt Barkley, who is signed through next year.

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane says former Georgia football QB Jake Fromm will have to ‘earn a spot’.

The Buffalo Bills selected Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm with 167th pick in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, which was not expected by many.

Fromm remained the best available player on the board for a while, but many teams needed other positions filled rather than a quarterback and passed on him.

The Bills were thought to be one of the teams who would pass on Fromm, with a rising star quarterback in Josh Allen on their roster, but Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane just couldn’t pass on Fromm so late.

“I wouldn’t have told you going into the day that (Fromm) was on our radar. But we had him in a spot that you just can’t ignore,” said Beane.

“He’s a winner at the highest level of college. He’s got all the intangibles.”

Allen just came off his sophomore season, throwing for 3,089 yards, 20 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 58.8% completion percentage.  He led the Bills to the playoffs on a 10-6 season, where they lost in the AFC Wild Card game to the Houston Texans 22-19.

On top of that, Buffalo has also recently extended its backup QB Matt Barkley.

“He’ll have to earn a spot,” Beane said. “I don’t know if he could knock Matt Barkley.”

It will be interesting to see how the situation with Fromm unravels in Buffalo, but it is obvious the organization sees something they like in him.  Fromm will have an equal opportunity to earn his spot and only time will tell what happens, but the Bills stole a great QB late in the draft.

It’s official Buffalo fans, University of Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is a Bill.

Now it’s time for Bills fans to get to know their new quarterback.

Jake Fromm is from Warner Robbins, GA where he played high school ball at Houston County High School.  Fromm was also a member of the Warner Robbins little league baseball team that came within two games of the 2011 Little League World Series Championship.  He had 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 11 strikeouts as one of the best players in the tournament.

Fromm has had an illustrious three years at Georgia, but decided to forgo his senior season in hopes for NFL glory.

He stepped in for the injured former Dawgs quarterback Jacob Eason (drafted 122nd in the 4th round of the 2020 draft by the Colts) in 2017, then going on to win his first start in South Bend, IN against Notre Dame.  That game instilled trust in Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who named Fromm QB1 for the remainder of his career in Athens.

Since then, Fromm has helped the Dawgs win a Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, an SEC Championship and come one defensive play away from winning a College Football Playoff National Championship.

If that under-three-year resume doesn’t impress you, I’m not sure what will.

Fromm finished his career at Georgia 4th all-time in passing yards (8,236), 2nd all-time in touchdown passes (78), and completed 63.3% of his attempts, all in just three seasons.

He was named co-newcomer of the year by the Associated Press as well as the 2017 SEC Freshman of the Year.

A humble, hardworking player Fromm is… and the Buffalo Bills just got an amazing draft steal in him.

With the 167th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Jake Fromm, quarterback out of the University of Georgia.

Fromm finished his career at Georgia 4th all-time in passing yards (8,236), 2nd all-time in touchdown passes (78), and completed 63.3% of his attempts, all in three seasons.

He led the Bulldogs to Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl and SEC Championship victories, and came just short of beating Alabama in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship.  It also should be noted that he led Georgia to 3 straight SEC Championships, something no other quarterback in Georgia history has ever done.

Fromm silenced the critics today and will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever do it at Georgia.

Congratulations to Jake on an amazing moment in his life.  We wish him nothing but the best on his NFL journey in Buffalo.

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm knows what was causing deep ball issues

As we approach the 2020 NFL Draft, Georgia football QB Jake Fromm says he knows what caused his deep-ball issues at UGA.

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm entered his junior season of college as a projected top-ten NFL Draft pick.

After a pretty disappointing 2019 season in red and black, Fromm has slipped to a mid-round projection in this month’s draft.

Things just were not clicking for Fromm this past season in Athens. Passes that we had seen him routinely hit for two seasons were becoming less and less consistent. He still guided the Bulldogs to another SEC Championship appearance, but the offense felt flat and fans became to grow impatient with Fromm’s inability to move the ball.

But what we had been exposed to for two years prior to 2019 was enough evidence for us UGA fans to see that Fromm has all the makings of an elite NFL quarterback. He just has some work to do to get there.

Fromm’s deep-ball issues frustrated Georgia fans more than anything last season, and the Warner Robins product identified what was causing those under thrown passes.

“I think it’s been my feet,” Fromm told The Herald Bulletin. “My feet have not been as clean as they needed to be this past football season. That’s something that we’ve really been hammering throughout this process.

“So, for me, I’m trying to get my feet better and as good as they can be because wherever my feet are, and how they are doing, it’s going to take care of the rest of whatever is going on. It starts from the bottom up. I’m really trying to take care of those.”

If Fromm can figure out how to get his deep-ball issues in check, he can have a long career in the pros. His leadership, work-ethic and brains are enough to get him very far.

7 Georgia Bulldogs taken in CBSSports’ full NFL mock draft

CBS Sports released a full NFL mock draft that included 7 Georgia football players being taken.

Most NFL mock drafts that we’ve seen over the past couple of months have had 2-3 Georgia football players going in the first round.

However, in CBS Sports’ most recent 7-round mock draft, the outlet has just one Dawg taken in the first round, and that’s left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Analyst Chris Trapasso projects the New York Jets to take Thomas with the No. 11 overall pick in the NFL Draft, which is currently scheduled for April 23 in Las Vegas.

On Thomas, Trapasso wrote:

Jets GM Joe Douglas knows how vital an offensive line is after his time in Philadelphia. Thomas was outstanding the two seasons at Georgia and has length for days.

Trapasso has Thomas ranked as the 15th overall player in the draft class and 4th ranked offensive tackle.

In total, Trapasso has seven Georgia players going in the draft.

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm predicts what his 40 time will be

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm predicted his 40 time at the NFL Combine.

Georgia football quarterback Jake Fromm is in Mobile, Alabama preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft with his personal quarterback coach that he’s had since he attended Houston County High School in Warner Robins.

Fromm’s junior season may not have gone the way he had hoped; he was inconsistent at times, received little help from his receivers and ultimately led an offense that left a ton to be desired. But the truth is that Fromm is a great quarterback, as seen during his freshman and sophomore year and at times throughout his junior year.

That’s the reason that he was projected as a top-ten pick by a ton of outlets last summer.

What separates Fromm from other quarterbacks is his preparation. He may not the biggest guy, he may not be the fastest and his arm strength is good but not great, but what he lacks in physical attributes he more than makes up for with his focus and drive.

While partaking in an interview with the NFL Network, Fromm was asked what kind of player the team who takes him in the draft will be getting.

“They’re getting a work horse — a guy who is going to go out and work and prepare,” Fromm said. “A guy who is going to lead. A guy who can make all the throws and make their teammates better, and enjoy it. Man, I love football. I want to go out and be the best football player I can be.”

In the current era of football, where expectations for what quarterbacks should be able to do with their legs are evolving, solely pocket passers are quickly becoming a minority. And though Fromm’s speed and athleticism is not what strikes fear into the opposition, he is quick enough to pick up chunks of yards with his feet if given the space.

The NFL Network asked Fromm to predict what kind of 40-yard-dash time we should expect from the Georgia great.

“We’re going to get a 4.9,” Fromm said. “We’re shooting for a 4.8. A 4.89 is still the same as a 4.80. It’s a 4.8. That’s all you need.”

Last combine (2019), a 4.9 40 time would have been good for 11th among quarterbacks.
