Eagles who could be impacted the most by the 2022 NFL draft

Looking at the Philadelphia Eagles who could be impacted the most by the 2022 NFL draft

The Eagles are in a two-three year rebuild and as the team prepares to add 10 more players to the roster during the NFL draft, several veterans on the roster will be greatly impacted.

Whether it be at wide receiver, defensive end, cornerback, or safety, Philadelphia has several pressing needs and a handful of guys on the roster that aren’t meeting those said needs.

With the first round of the draft just two weeks away, here’s a look at nine Eagles that could be impacted the most on draft night.

Jason Kelce is the only player on the reserve/COVID-19 list activated for Saturday’s game, as his consecutive start streak will remain intact.

The Eagles will play without Fletcher Cox, Dallas Goedert, Avonte Maddox, Rodney McLeod, Genardy Avery, Marcus Epps, Nate Herbig, Jordan Howard, Boston Scott, Alex Singleton, and Jack Stoll.

6 49ers to watch on defense in 2nd preseason game vs. Chargers

Here’s who we’re watching Sunday when the #49ers defense is on the field vs. the Chargers.

The 49ers’ starting defense looks for the most part on track to be ready for the season opener. There are a slew of depth issues yet to be resolved though, and how Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers goes could go a long way toward sussing out some of the roster questions still facing the club.

Finding depth on the defensive side will be key given how unproven a lot of those players are. Any reserve thrust into a starting situation is going to do so without a ton of playing experience. That’s why so many of the young players that were on our radar for the preseason opener will be on our list of players to watch in the second preseason contest against the Chargers.

49ers roster moves: 2 more signed to Reserve/Futures contracts

The San Francisco 49ers have now added 15 players via Reserve/Futures contracts.

The San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday announced two more offseason additions via Reserve/Futures contracts. Undrafted rookie tight end Chase Harrell and undrafted safety Jared Mayden were both added to the 13 San Francisco signed Monday.

Harrell joined the club as an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas. He was with the team throughout training camp and spent the year on the practice squad.

Mayden was also an undrafted free agent signee out of Alabama. While he spent most of the season on the practice squad, injuries pushed him to the active roster for two games where he played 24 special teams snaps.

Both players will have an opportunity again to compete for spots on the 53-man roster.

Alabama football countdown: 21 days until kickoff

We are 21 days from Alabama football kicking off its season on the road against the Missouri Tigers to start a 10-game, SEC only schedule.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of weeks, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue the Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.

With it now being Sept. 3, we are officially 23 days away from the start!

Two players currently wear the No. 21 for Alabama. On offense, true freshman running Jase McClellan out of Aledo (Tex.) will wear it this season. On defense, it’s fellow 2020 recruit Jahquez Robinson, the four-star cornerback out of Florida.

Prior to the two newbies, it was long-time Crimson Tide defensive back Jared Mayden who wore the number while in Tuscaloosa.

Report: Bengals wanted UDFA Jared Mayden before he signed with 49ers

The Bengals had eyes on Alabama’s Jared Mayden in undrafted free agency.

[jwplayer jKpDvIpQ-ThvAeFxT]

The Cincinnati Bengals have been quite active in the NFL’s undrafted free-agency period after the draft.

But maybe not as active as they’d like.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, the Bengals were in on Alabama defensive back Jared Mayden before he ended up signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayden, a 6’0″ and 201-pound prospect from Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide, offered a ton of versatility but fell out of the draft. He would’ve made for an interesting camp-battler over the summer, at a minimum.

If nothing else, this gives us a hint of what the Bengals might have an eye as undrafted free agency continues.

We’ve got a UDFA tracker running and more in-depth breakdowns with highlights of each in the class, too.

Report: Former Alabama DB Jared Mayden expected to sign with 49ers

Jared Mayden has found an NFL home after going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL Draft is officially over, but there are at least a few more Alabama players looking to find homes in the league as undrafted free agents.

Among those players is starting safety Jared Mayden, who is reportedly signing with the San Francisco 49ers according to multiple sources. One of those sources is Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network:

San Francisco was in need of more help at the safety position, which is why fellow former Tide standout Xavier McKinney was a popular mocked player to them in the first round.

Since Alabama football’s Pro Day is canceled due to the CoronaVirus pandemic, the focus has shifted towards the Crimson Tide alum and the 2020 NFL Draft.

One issue is, while Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs are already large names in the spotlight and had the NFL Combine to attend, other players are left with nothing more than tape from their time in college.

Former Alabama defensive back Jared Mayden didn’t let the lack of a Pro-Day slow him down on his quest to continue playing the game he loves on a professional level.

Mayden took to Twitter to post a series of clips that served as a replacement for the drills he would have ran at the event.

The 45-second video may not be as helpful to NFL scouts as an entire day of monitoring his every move, but the initiative he took certainly helps his case.

In 2019 Mayden posted 59 total tackles through 11 games with three pass deflections and four interceptions. These numbers were good enough to earn the Nick Saban product a draft grade of rounds No. 2 or 3 by TDAlabamamag.com.

This may be a growing trend among players who need the extra exposure. There’s certainly a chance that more Alabama players try this out as well in order to gain some attention from any and all NFL franchises.

10 Combine snubs the Lions should keep on their radar

Identifying 10 players from the 2020 draft class that were not invited to the NFL Combine but should still be on the Detroit Lions radar.

The NFL has released the 2020 NFL Combine participants list, and despite it containing 337 players, there were a few notable names not invited to Indianapolis for the event.

Just because a player didn’t receive an invite doesn’t mean the NFL isn’t still paying attention to them. Last year, players such as David Blough, Kevin Strong, and C.J. Moore were not invited to the 2019 NFL Combine, yet still earned a spot on the Detroit Lions active roster and contributed in significant ways throughout the year.

Here are 10 players who were snubbed from the 2020 NFL Combine that should still be on the Lions radar.

Reggie Corbin, RB, Illinois

After a 2018 season that saw him average an astounding 8.5 yards per rush and eclipse 1,000-yards rushing, Corbin saw his production drop in 2019, which likely let to him being left off the invitation list.

Corbin’s (est. 5-8, 201) speed, ability to set up defenders, and natural lateral movement skills are all easily at an NFL level, which makes him a perfect candidate for a team that uses a running back by committee approach. If the Lions don’t retain J.D. McKissic, Corbin could be a potential replacement.

Tavien Feaster, RB, South Carolina

Feaster (est. 5-11, 222) played three years at Clemson before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2019 season. With solid straight-line speed — especially for a back his size — and the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, there should be some appeal from NFL teams who are looking for a bigger third-down back.

Kevin Dotson, G, Louisana

Dotson (est. 6-4, 324) will likely be the first player drafted who wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, potentially even in the third or fourth round. Dotson is a powerful interior offensive lineman who is a force in both the run and pass game, earning a spot as an AP first-team All-American and grading out as Pro Football Focus’ top interior offensive lineman.

The Lions are familiar with the Ragin’ Cajuns’ program — they drafted Tracy Walker from there in the third round of the 2018 draft — and met with Dotson at the East-West Shrine game last month. He’s firmly on their radar.

Tyler Clark, DL, Georgia

Georgia’s scheme gives Clark (est. 6-3, 289) the needed 2-gapping experience — nose tackle John Atkins came from the same program — and his body-type, ability to shed defenders and get into the backfield makes him a candidate for the Lions’ big defensive end role. That spot is currently occupied by Da’Shawn Hand and the aforementioned Kevin Strong, but the Lions will be on the lookout for more depth on the defensive line.

Bravvion Roy, NT, Baylor

Speaking of defensive line depth, Roy has nose tackle size but is more of a pass rusher than anchor at the 0-technique. He brings a different style of play than what the Lions have in Damon Harrison and Atkins, but there’s some appeal to having a player like him in the rotation.

Mike Danna, EDGE, Michigan

A favorite of PFF from his time at Central Michigan, Danna (est. 6-2, 257) earned a 27-percent pass-rushing rate with the Chippewas, but he saw his play drop off a bit in 2019 playing in the Big Ten and in a rotational role along the Wolverines’ deep defensive line. In the NFL, Danna will likely begin his career as a pass-rushing specialist with upside and special teamer.

TJ Brunson, LB, South Carolina

Brunson (6-1, 219) was one of only two players to participate in the Senior Bowl, yet not receive an invite to the Combine. He is undersized for the Lions scheme, but his aggressiveness and ability to be physical against the run could earn him a role on special teams. If the Lions decide to move on from Miles Killebrew, Brunson could be a player who could compete to fill the vacancy.

Levonta Taylor, NB, Florida State

Taylor (est. 5-10, 186), a former 5-star recruit, was a big get for the Seminoles out of high school, but injuries and inability to stay at one position have impeded his draft stock. In the NFL, Taylor won’t fit every scheme, but for the Lions, he would fill a developmental nickel corner/safety role.

Jared Mayden, S, Alabama

Mayden (6-0, 201), the other Senior Bowler not invited to Indianapolis, is a reliable tackler capable of playing on defense as a corner/safety option in the slot but his path to the NFL is likely on special teams where he shined in college.

Myles Dorn, S, North Carolina

Dorn (est. 6-1, 198) is a rangy defender who can play deep as well as in the box. His game is drenched in aggressiveness, instincts, high energy, and is a reliable tackler which will make him a natural special teams player in the NFL.
