Colorado DB Jahquez Robinson enters transfer portal for second time in college career

Jahquez Robinson is back in the transfer portal

The Colorado Buffaloes football program continues to see changes within its roster and coaching staff. Now, former Alabama transfer Jahquez Robinson has entered the portal for the second time in his college career, as first reported by 247Sports on Thursday.

Robinson, a defensive back, then announced his decision to leave Boulder via X.

After transferring from Alabama, Robinson played sparingly this past season with the Buffs, appearing in seven games with nine total tackles, one TFL and an interception. He did start two games but had a hard time earning reps with how much talent Colorado had in its secondary.

Robinson, who has two years of eligibility remaining, now enters the portal again in hopes of finding more playing time.

New Buffs CB Jahquez Robinson talks expectations for Colorado in 2023

Jahquez Robinson spoke about setting higher standards for the Buffs while appearing on the @FolsomFrenzyPod

As everyone knows by this point, Colorado did not have a great 2022 campaign.

After that one-win season, the Buffs hired Deion Sanders and he has since changed the culture by bringing in a ton of new players through the portal.

One of those newcomers is former Alabama CB Jahquez Robinson, who recently joined the Folsom Frenzy Podcast and discussed the need for Colorado to have higher expectations in 2023.

“I have a higher standard than winning just one game,” Robinson said on the Folsom Frenzy Podcast. “I don’t want them guys to be excited, ‘Oh, we won one game, we went 5-7.’ Nah, that ain’t the standard. We’re trying to build something great and leave a legacy. I’m trying to win all 12 games That’s how I’m looking at it. I’m going to come into every game thinking that we’re gonna win this game.”

The standard is definitely higher for CU football with Coach Prime, and it’ll be intriguing to see how things change on the field going forward.

Alabama CB Jahquez Robinson transfers to CU Buffs

Colorado picked up a former four-star recruit from SEC country

The Colorado Buffaloes’ mass exodus of players has not affected them in the portal. Deion Sanders and his staff continue to bring in high-profile players as they put together a loaded roster.

Now, Alabama CB Jahquez Robinson is following defensive coordinator Charles Kelly to Boulder, as he posted on his Twitter page.

The Buffs have been extra busy on the defensive front, including adding a pair of Florida State players despite a flurry of names leaving the program after the spring game.

Robinson saw a limited role in Tuscaloosa and could be used quite a bit alongside Cormani McClain and Travis Hunter in the secondary.

Former Crimson Tide linebacker Demouy Kennedy also transferred to Colorado, and the Buffs’ defense is looking dangerous after a disastrous 1-11 season.

Robinson was a four-star recruit out of high school in 2020, but the stacked Crimson Tide roster made it difficult for him to earn playing time.

In what has become a recurring theme, the Buffs continue to add talent to their roster, and Coach Prime has quickly changed the culture of this team.

Alabama DB Jahquez Robinson transferring to Colorado

Former Alabama defensive back Jahquez Robinson is transferring to play for Deion Sanders at Colorado. Robinson spent three seasons at Alabama.

Alabama defensive back Jahquez Robinson announced that he is transferring to Colorado on Saturday afternoon. Robinson took an official visit to Colorado last week.

The Florida native spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa. Robinson played in eight games over the course of his Alabama career. He tallied two tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Robinson played sparingly in the secondary but did contribute on the special teams unit.

He had an opportunity to compete for the starting STAR position this spring. However, senior Malachi Moore and redshirt-freshman Earl Little Jr. seemed to be the top-two choices at that position.

Robinson will join former Alabama linebacker Demouy Kennedy in Boulder. The two figure to play a key role on the Buffaloes defense next season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program and its players that enter the transfer portal.

Alabama DB Jahquez Robinson enters NCAA transfer portal

On Tuesday, Alabama defensive back confirmed that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal via Twitter. The news comes just days ahead of Alabama’s spring game.

The Alabama football program saw one of its defensive backs enter the transfer portal on Tuesday evening. Junior Jahquez Robinson announced via Twitter that he has entered the transfer portal. This comes just days prior to Alabama’s A-Day spring game on Saturday.

Robinson struggled to see the field in three seasons with the Tide. He tallied one tackle in his time in Tuscaloosa.

He was expected to compete for the starting role at the star position, which is where expected first-rounder Brian Branch played last season.

Several programs to keep an eye on in his recruitment are Florida State and South Carolina. Both of those programs had Robinson on campus for multiple visits during his high school recruitment. It would not be a surprise as both programs recruit the transfer portal at a high level.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program and its involvement in the NCAA transfer portal.

Alabama football countdown: 21 days until kickoff

We are 21 days from Alabama football kicking off its season on the road against the Missouri Tigers to start a 10-game, SEC only schedule.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of weeks, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue the Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.

With it now being Sept. 3, we are officially 23 days away from the start!

Two players currently wear the No. 21 for Alabama. On offense, true freshman running Jase McClellan out of Aledo (Tex.) will wear it this season. On defense, it’s fellow 2020 recruit Jahquez Robinson, the four-star cornerback out of Florida.

Prior to the two newbies, it was long-time Crimson Tide defensive back Jared Mayden who wore the number while in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama player snapshot: No. 21 Jahquez Robinson

Freshman cornerback Jahquez Robinson is the next man up on Alabama football’s player snapshot, which highlights each scholarship player.

As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.

Each day, we’ll release two player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.

Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.

Next up on the list is freshman cornerback Jahquez Robinson out of Jacksonville (Fla.).

Height: 6-2 / Weight: 185

Class: Freshman

Hometown: Jacksonville (Fla.)

High School: Sandalwood High School

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 294 overall / No. 20 CB / No. 50 FLA

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 177 overall / No. 16 CB / No. 29 FLA

Analysis: Jahquez Robinson has a leg up on just about every other freshman in Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class, as he was able to get on campus leading up to the Crimson Tide’s bowl game against Michigan — giving him actual practice time with the team.

Will that give Robinson a chance to carve out a role in Year 1? Probably not, but every rep is beneficial right now.

The good news is Robinson adds much-needed depth at the cornerback position with Trevon Diggs graduating and Scooby Carter and Nigel Knott (East Carolina) entering the transfer portal.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, the Florida native brings the prototypical size and length that Nick Saban looks for in defensive backs for Alabama’s system. Expect a redshirt season for Robinson to start, but don’t be surprised if he starts working his way up the depth chart sometime in 2021 or 2022.

National Signing Day has come and gone, and Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class is officially set. There were 25 total members (26, if you count North Carolina grad transfer tight end Carl Tucker) with talent across the board.

In order for fans to get to know the Crimson Tide’s newest players, we have laid out a “get to know them” article for each member.

The next man up on the list is four-star cornerback Jahquez Robinson out of Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville (Fla.).

Jahquez Robinson, Cornerback

Hometown: Jacksonville (Fla.)

High school: Sandalwood

Size: 6-2, 190 (6-2, 185 on official Alabama roster)

Early enrollee: Yes

247Sports ranking: 3-star / No. 433 overall / No. 32 CB

Rivals ranking: 4-star / No. 177 overall / No. 16 CB

ESPN ranking: 3-star / 79 overall grade / No. 33 CB

Commitment date: Feb. 18, 2019

Signing date: Dec. 18, 2019

Where does he fit in? Robinson managed to get a leg up on every other member of Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class, as the four-star cornerback was already on campus participating in bowl game practices leading up to the Citrus Bowl against Michigan.

It will be interesting to see if that added experience can lead to early playing time for Robinson, but he’s certainly a guy who make an impact at some point during his college career.

Robinson possesses excellent length (6-2) to go with a physical style and willingness to improve. That combination could prove to be a winning one before it’s all said and done.

More than likely, Robinson will take a backseat to some of the veteran cornerbacks on the roster — such as Patrick Surtain II, Josh Jobe and Jayln Armour-Davis — but he could find his way into a role on special teams before competing for a starting cornerback job in 2021.
