A former Clemson running back has inked with a new professional team.

The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League announced this week they have signed former Tiger and NFL running back Tavien Feaster.

Feaster (6-0, 221) won two national championships (2016 and 2018) with Clemson. In three seasons with the Tigers, the 24-year-old amassed 1,330 yards on 222 carries, scoring 15 touchdowns in 38 games. He also caught 23 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown. The native of Spartanburg, S.C., ranked second in Clemson history for yards per carry (5.99).

After transferring to South Carolina for his final collegiate season, he recorded 672 yards on 124 runs, crossing the goal line five times with the Gamecocks. He added 87 yards on 17 receptions, and one touchdown.

He then went on to be a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions. Last season, he played three games with the Arizona Cardinals.

“Tavien is a real tank that is without fear when he runs with the ball,” said Danny Maciocia, General Manager of the Alouettes. “His strength, combined to his speed add a lot of depth to our team.”

Cardinals re-sign Tavien Feaster, Beau Brinkley to practice squad, announce Trace McSorley signing

The reported signing of McSorley is now official.

It was reported Monday that the Arizona Cardinals were signing quarterback Trace McSorley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad to their active roster and releasing quarterback Chris Streveler.

The Cardinals made those moves official Tuesday, announcing the signing and release of both players.

They also brought back a pair of players to their own practice squad.

Running back Tavien Feaster and long snapper Beau Brinkley, both released Monday, cleared waivers and were re-signed to the practice squad.

The re-signing of Brinkley is significant because it means the team has not given up on him after, at least on one kick, his less-than-perfect snaps contributed to three missed kicks on Sunday by Matt Prater.

McSorley is now the latest developmental third-string quarterback the Cardinals have had on the team since Kliff Kingsbury became head coach. First it was Drew Anderson, then it was Streveler and now it is McSorley.

Cardinals release RB Tavien Feaster, LS Beau Brinkley

The release of Brinkley perhaps signals the team is ready for a different long snapper after three missed Matt Prater kicks on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals made some roster moves Monday that were not announced but appeared on the NFL transaction report. Two were simply procedural, as linebackers Joe Walker and Tahir Whitehead, both of whom were elevated to the active roster from the practice squad Saturday as standard elevations, reverted back to the practice squad.

They also released two players. They waived running back Tavien Feaster and long snapper Beau Brinkley.

This doesn’t necessarily mean both are done with the team.

Feaster was signed to the roster in Week 10, released on the Monday following the Cardinals’ game and then re-signed to the practice squad after he cleared waivers. Considering the uncertain status of Jonathan Ward and his concussion, that could happen again.

However, the fact that Brinkley was released after kicker Matt Prater missed three kicks — two field goals and an extra point — raises questions.

Kyle Nelson was the first long snapper they signed after Aaron Brewer fractured his arm. He then was placed on the practice squad injured reserve. If he is ready to return, then Brinkley might be done.

But we will see in the days to come and then perhaps into next week when they have practices prepping for a football game after the bye.

A former Clemson running back was cut by an NFL team on Monday.

The Arizona Cardinals announced they have released Tavien Feaster. He was signed to the team’s practice squad in October.

Feaster was also released by the Cardinals in late August after being picked up by the franchise on April 15. After originally signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in April 2020, he was released that August and then signed with the New York Giants shortly after. Feaster also briefly spent time on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.

In three years at Clemson from 2016-18, Feaster had 1,330 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 222 carries and 23 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown over 41 career games (11 starts).

After transferring to South Carolina in 2019, Feaster rushed for 672 yards and five touchdowns on 124 carries.

Cardinals release RB Tavien Feaster, 2 from practice squad

The release of Feaster suggests that Jonathan Ward will return after missing two weeks with a concussion.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a trio of releases on Monday following their 34-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The waived running back Tavien Feaster, who was signed to the active roster last week from the practice squad, and also defensive lineman Matt Dickerson and receiver Darrius Shepherd from the practice squad.

The release of Feaster suggests that running back Jonathan Ward, who has missed the last two games with a concussion, will return to practice this week.

With Feaster’s release, Ward, James Conner and Eno Benjamin are the only running backs on the roster, as Chase Edmonds was placed on injured reserve on Saturday and is not eligible for return until Week 14.

The other two who were released were because guard Danny Isidora and linebacker Joe Walker reverted to the practice squad after having been elevated early last week as COVID-19 replacements. They needed to clear the roster spots to make room for Isidora and Walker.

Other roster moves could be coming to the practice squad. The Cardinals typically bring in players for tryouts on Tuesdays.

Cardinals had 5 players in for tryout Tuesday

Their two practice squad signings came from the five workouts.

The Arizona Cardinals announced some practice squad moves Wednesday morning. That comes on the heels of having five players in on Tuesday for a workout.

The Cardinals often bring in players on Tuesday to address depth because of injuries or simply to try and make the back end of the roster better. On Tuesday, they had in three running backs and a pair of defensive backs.

They ultimately signed two of them.

Cardinals announce 3 practice squad additions

The Cardinals made some roster moves Wednesday before practice.

The Arizona Cardinals announced the addition of three players to their practice squad on Wednesday. They added running back Tavien Feaster, whose signing was reported Tuesday, offensive lineman Koda Martin and cornerback Greg Mabin.

Feaster spent the offseason and preseason with the Cardinals this year before being cut. His addition is likely in response to a hamstring injury to Eno Benjamin. Benjamin injured his hamstring last week and was out at the end of the week and would have been unable to play. He has not yet been active in his NFL career.

Martin was recently released Monday when safety Chris Banjo was added to the 53-man roster. He had played the last two games for the Cardinals.

Mabin is a new addition. Listed at 6-2 and 200 lbs, he has played in 34 career games (five starts) with the Bills (2017), 49ers (2017-18), Bengals (2019) and Jaguars (2020). He has 41 career tackles, six pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played in five games last year with Jacksonville and had a career-high 20 tackles. Mabin originally entered the league in 2017 with Tampa Bay as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Iowa.

Cardinals to add RB Tavien Feaster to practice squad

The Cardinals could need a body at running back with Eno Benjamin hurt and Chase Edmonds potentially dealing with a shoulder injury.

The Arizona Cardinals will be adding a familiar running back to the practice squad. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals are adding running back Tavien Feaster to the practice squad.

Feaster spent the offseason and preseason with the team this year.

This addition is likely to address injuries in the running back room.

Eno Benjamin injured his hamstring last week and was unable to practice at the end of the week.

Starter Chase Edmonds injured his shoulder at the end of his 54-yard run against the Rams. He was able to finish the game, but he was seen icing it afterward.

If he is limited this week and Benjamin can’t go, that would leave only two running backs available for reps in practice.

The Cardinals will likely announce this and other roster moves Wednesday.
