A look at Alabama’s potentially loaded backfield in 2022

My goodness, this would be a loaded backfield!

Last Wednesday on early signing day, Nick Saban and Alabama reeled in a pair of top-notched running backs in Emmanuel Henderson and Jamarion Miller.

Alabama wasn’t finished either. On Tuesday afternoon talented Georgia Tech running back transfer Jahmyr Gibbs announced that he was taking his talents to Tuscaloosa too.

Brian Robinson Jr. is the only back that we know for certain will not return to Alabama in 2022.

With that being said, the 2022 running back room for the Tide is flat-out loaded with talent.

Here is what the depth chart could potentially look like heading into next season.

Five keys for Notre Dame to defeat Georgia Tech

What are you keys to the game?

The Irish are favored in their final home game of the year, senior day in South Bend. There will be plenty of emotions but that doesn’t mean that Notre Dame can coast to a win without being focused at the task at hand, Georgia Tech. Here are five keys to ensure the Irish get a win for the seniors.

Know you foe, Georgia Tech: Which Yellow Jackets could give Notre Dame problems

GT still has some weapons

Georgia Tech has not had a good year record wise and most likely that will continue against the Irish Saturday evening. They will still bring a talented team to South Bend, even if it will be more individual players than the whole. Here are five Yellow Jackets that could give Notre Dame issues Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame at Georgia Tech: Second-Quarter Analysis

Football is a game that can make you feel feelings on both ends of the spectrum quickly.

Football is a game that can make you feel feelings on both ends of the spectrum quickly. That definitely was the case for Notre Dame in the second quarter against Georgia Tech. Just when it seemed like the Irish would break this game open early, the exact opposite happened. Fortunately, they bounced back to take a 17-7 halftime lead.

On the very first play of the second quarter, the Irish were within striking distance of the end zone. Instead, Kyren Williams lost a fumble, and Zamari Walton picked it up and ran 93 yards for a touchdown the other way. The Yellow Jackets tied the game on the extra point. It was the longest fumble return in Georgia Tech history.

Still, the Irish have responded well to adversity this season, and the next drive was no exception. The offense mainly went right back to the ground, and it paid off. Though Williams did most of the damage, the biggest play went to Chris Tyree, who had a 21-yard run. Williams finished it off with a 2-yard touchdown, succeeding where he had failed the last time down the field.

The Yellow Jackets got into Irish territory on their next possession, but Kyle Hamilton was there to stop Jahmyr Gibbs for a big loss on fourth-and-2. Starting in Georgia Tech territory, the Irish’s offense used running attacks from Tyree and Ian Book to get to the Yellow Jackets’ 14-yard line. From there, Book took a couple of shots at the end zone, but to no avail. Jonathan Doerer salvaged the short drive with a 32-yard field goal.

Notre Dame at Georgia Tech: First-Quarter Analysis

Sometimes, you just gotta hold onto the ball in order to come out on top.

Sometimes, you just gotta hold onto the ball in order to come out on top. While it’s too early to determine if that will work for Notre Dame at this point, that certainly was case in the first quarter. How else to explain its 7-0 lead over Georgia Tech?

The Irish began the game with a possession that lasted 8:44 thanks to a nice mixture of runs and passes along with a few third-down conversions. It ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Ian Book to Joe Wilkins Jr. That’s the first score for Wilkins at Notre Dame. Book completed all seven of his pass attempts for 49 yards during the drive.

Despite having to wait longer than usual to see the field, the Irish’s defense did not miss a beat. It allowed Jahmyr Gibbs to pick up 5 yards on the ground on third-and-1, but took those yards right back when Gibbs was tackled behind the line after taking a pass from Jeff Sims. Soon after, the Yellow Jackets punted it away and then appeared to recover a fumble but a hands-to-the-face penalty. The Irish took advantage of their second life by getting close to the end zone again as the quarter ended.

Tale of the Tape: Leading Rushers – Kyren Williams vs. Jahmyr Gibbs

Despite showing a better pass attack against Pittsburgh, Notre Dame remains primarily a team that gets its best production on the ground.

Despite showing a better pass attack against Pittsburgh, Notre Dame remains primarily a team that gets its best production on the ground. Kyren Williams is the ringleader for the Irish, and Georgia Tech will have no choice but to watch out for him. The Yellow Jackets’ defensive line in particular will have to figure out how to contain a running back who’s averaging nearly 6 yards a carry and always is a threat to eclipse 100 yards. If the early returns indicate anything, the linebackers and secondary will end up tackling him the most, and even then, it likely will be too late to stop any prominent production.

The Yellow Jackets have Jahmyr Gibbs in their arsenal. While merely a decent rusher, he has shined as a receiver, scoring more touchdowns in that role. Any program would be lucky to have a running back who can hurt you in multiple ways. Notre Dame might not be the best defense for Gibbs to break out against, but when facing a player with this much talent, no defense can let its guard down.

Gators’ Twitter reacts to Florida’s rough National Signing Day

The Florida Gators had a disappointing National Signing Day under Dan Mullen.

The Florida Gators had a disappointing National Signing Day. Dan Mullen and company secured a talented class, but they’ll be left wondering what it could’ve been.

The Gators missed out on four-star recruits RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Safety Avantae Williams, and others. Williams’ decision to go to Miami was considered the “surprise of the the day” by Chad Simmons.

Florida is considered one of the SEC’s signing day losers. The Georgia Bulldogs, who have the nation’s top class, are considered winners:

The Gators did have some good news on the day:

Four-star 2020 running back Jahmyr Gibbs no longer set to visit Ohio state

According to a report from 247Sports, four-star 2020 running back Jahmyr Gibbs is no longer going to visit Ohio State this weekend.

Ohio State football has locked down almost its entire recruiting class for 2020, but there were still a couple of targets the Buckeyes were thought to be looking to nail down on the conventional National Signing Day. The biggest target is defensive back Cameron Martinez who committed verbally to OSU but held off signing during the early signing period — presumably to see who replaces Jeff Hafley. There’s no doubt Martinez remains the Buckeyes’ biggest priority.

Another one OSU seemed to get on late in the game was four-star running back Jahmyr Gibbs out of Dalton, Georgia. He had been committed to Georgia Tech but has started to garner interest from other schools as the perception of his abilities continues to rise in recruiting circles.

Earlier reports had Gibbs heading to Columbus for an official visit this coming weekend, but according to 247Sports recruiting director Steve Wiltfong (subscription required), that no longer appears to be the case. This is an excerpt from the news.

“247Sports has learned that Ohio State will no longer host Top247 running back Jahmyr Gibbs on an official visit this weekend.

It’s a numbers thing for the Buckeyes who already have 24 signed and Cameron Martinez also committed making 25 for this 2020 class.

Gibbs is currently committed to Georgia Tech and also keeping an eye on Florida and LSU as well. The Gators are scheduled to get an official next weekend with the Yellow Jackets slated for the last one the weekend of Jan. 31.”

So, it looks like the Buckeyes’ efforts will center around keeping Martinez in the fold. With the flip of Clark Phillips to Utah during the early signing period, he’s a talent Ryan Day and staff would love to add to the 2020 class. Defensive back is one of the biggest areas of need right now, and will continue to be in the next recruiting cycle as well.

Four-star 2020 running back Jahmyr Gibbs to visit Ohio State

Ohio State may not be done with its running back efforts for 2020. Four-star RB Jahmyr Gibbs will visit Columbus on January 17.

Ohio State has put together a consensus top five 2020 recruiting class, but it’s hoping to gain the interest of a kid that would add even more talent at the running back position, a group that didn’t quite pan out like it would have wanted during the early signing period.

Four-star Jahmyr Gibbs is all set to visit Ohio State despite being verbally committed to Georgia Tech as it stands right now. Gibbs has been rising in the running back ratings and beginning to garner more and more attention from big-time programs.

And he is apparently listening.

Gibbs spoke with Eleven Warriors about his recruitment and appears to be open to listening to what Ohio State has to offer. He’s from Georgia, but says that he’ll go where he feels the best fit is.

“(I’m) just gonna go wherever best fits me,” Gibbs told Eleven Warriors. “It’s not (just) the South. It’s wherever fits me.”

So here we go. The Buckeyes lost out on a couple of very high profile running back commits that were thought to be very heavy leans — and even silent commits — when the No. 2 and No. 10 backs (Bijan Robinson and Jaylan Knighton) in the class according to 247Sports went elsewhere and surprised everyone.

Now the Buckeyes are hoping to get in on Gibbs before the February 5 official signing date. There are plans to visit LSU, Georgia Tech and Florida. But first, the No. 16 rated running back in the class will kick the scarlet and gray tires around on January 17.

Texas offers 2020 four star running back

After securing Bijan Robinson, Texas will have some depth at RB. However, they are still trying to sign in the late February signing window.

After securing five-star Bijan Robinson in the 2020 class, Texas is finally going to have some depth at the running back position. That does not mean they will stop recruiting at the position though, as they are still looking for players to sign in the February signing window. Losing all-purpose back Ty Jordan to Utah, the Longhorns need another running back commit.

Texas has started to find a replacement and has started by offering four-star Jahmyr Gibbs out of Dalton, GA. Listed at 5 feet 11 inches, the running back is the ninth-ranked prospect at his position in the country. Currently committed to Georgia Tech, Gibbs has yet to sign his letter of intent for the early signing period.

Iowa State is the only other Big 12 school to offer Gibbs, but the Longhorns face competition from SEC schools like Alabama, LSU, and Florida. If Gibbs were to sign with Texas, the running back room would be full of four and five star talent, waiting to burst on to the scene in the Big 12.
