A look back at Eagles 2023 NFL free agent class

With 2024 NFL free agency set to begin in less than two weeks, we’re looking back at the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 free agent class

Coming off of their Super Bowl LVII loss to the Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles lost several starting players to free agency — C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Marcus Epps, T.J. Edwards, and Kyzir White.

Howie Roseman helped alleviate some of that loss by adding six veterans on one-year deals to help the Eagles return to the postseason in 2023.

Philadelphia started 10-1, before losing six of their final seven games including a wild card loss to the Buccaneers.

One big reason for the collapse was the lack of production from each of those veteran additions.

Kansas City repeated as Super Bowl champions, and with all the attention now focused on 2024 NFL free agency, we’re looking back at the 2023 class.

Eagles release former LSU CB Greedy Williams

The Eagles moved on from the former LSU star after signing him to a one-year deal in March.

Former LSU star [autotag]Greedy Williams[/autotag] was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

Williams emerged with LSU in 2017, where he recorded six interceptions and 10 pass breakups in his debut campaign. He followed it up with two more picks and nine PBU’s in 2018 and was a key member of LSU’s stout defense.

Williams earned All-American and all-conference honors while at LSU.

He was picked by the Browns in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, but never quite found solid footing in Cleveland. He signed a one-year deal with the Eagles in March, but he’ll now be looking for a new home.

Williams missed all of 2020 with an injury, but in the 39 games he did play, he broke up 12 passes and made 99 tackles. Williams started in 21 of those 39 appearances.

Williams is still talented, so it’ll be interesting to see if another team gives him a shot. He’ll be entering his age-26 season and made just one start last year.

Giants waive CB Rodarius Williams

The New York Giants have waived third-year cornerback Rodarius Williams after he was a healthy scratch on Friday night.

New York Giants cornerback Rodarius Williams didn’t dress for a Friday night preseason game against the Carolina Panthers but he wasn’t injured.

The curious decision gave way to an explanation on Saturday as head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Williams has been waived. The transaction was filed on Saturday morning.

Williams, a sixth-round pick of the Giants in the 2021 NFL draft, flashed early in his career but quickly became hampered by injuries. He suffered a torn ACL in Week 5 of his rookie season and began last season on injured reserve (IR) before being activated in November.

In eight career games (one start), Williams has recorded 16 tackles (16 solo), two passes defensed, and one interception.

With the arrival of rookies Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins, Williams was bumped down the depth chart and became a bubble player. He struggled in a Week 1 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions and the two sides ultimately parted ways.

It’s unclear if Williams influenced that decision away from the field.

Ironically, Rodarius’ release comes on the very same day his brother, Greedy Williams, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles.

With a need at cornerback and a current opening, it will be interesting to see if the Giants attempt to move on from one Williams only to pursue another.
