Top NFL prospects for Ravens to watch during Week 1 of college football season

We’re looking at the top NFL Draft prospects for the Baltimore #Ravens fans to watch during Week 1 of college football season via @Thacover2NFL

With the college football season set to get underway, the Ravens and 31 other teams will spend their last free Saturday of the year scouting potential 2024 NFL draft picks.

The team has seven picks in next April’s drafft after Baltimore sent their 2024 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick that was used to select USC offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees.

With some big-named stars looking to show out in front of NFL scouts, we’re previewing some of the top prospects for the Ravens to watch during Week 1.

New York Jets Quinnen Williams honored on the NFL’s Top 100 Player list for 2023

Former Alabama DT Quinnen Williams recognized as the 40th best player in the NFL

The summer of 2023 will be one to remember for former Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. This offseason, Williams signed a new four-year deal worth $96 million that makes him the highest-paid defensive tackle ever, with the exception of Aaron Donald. The New York Jets also added future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to run the offense which firmly places them in the middle of the Super Bowl conversation.

The cherry on top for Williams is that he was just recognized as the 40th-best player in the league on the NFL’s 2023 top 100 player rankings. Williams is coming off of a monster 2022 season where he earned First-team All-Pro honors after racking up 55 total tackles, 12.0 sacks and forced two fumbles.

The AFC East will be arguably the best division in the NFL this year between the Jets, Dolphins, Bills and Patriots. So four times a year, Williams will be tasked with chasing down his former college quarterbacks Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa.

New York hasn’t made the playoffs since 2010, and while Aaron Rodgers and the offense will grab the headlines, it is the defense that will dictate how far they can go in the postseason. With Williams and C.J. Mosley calling the shots defensively, it feels like they have something really special brewing.

10 defensive tackles for the Eagles in the 2023 NFL draft

We’re previewing ten defensive tackle prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft

Philadelphia had one of the NFL’s best defensive lines in the NFL last season.

Still, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham have returned, while Ndamukong Suh, Linval Joseph, Robert Quinn are free agents and Javon Hargrave signed with the 49ers.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman will undoubtedly address the position during the NFL draft, and we’re highlighting ten defensive tackles that fit.

27 former Eagles players who are still unsigned free agents

We’re looking at 27 former Philadelphia Eagles players who are still currently unsigned 2023 NFL free agents

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost 10+ players to free agency.

Two starters in the secondary (C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Marcus Epps), both starting linebackers (T.J. Edwards, Kyzir White) and one all-world defensive tackle (Javon Hargrave) are exiting for greener pastures on the open market.

With ten players signing with other teams, here’s an updated look at 27 former Eagles who are currently free agents on the open market via Over The Cap.

1 pending free agent the Eagles could target from each NFC team

With the legal tampering period and NFL league year fast approaching, we’re looking at 1 pending free agent the Eagles should target from each NFC team

The Eagles won’t be major players in the free-agent market, but it’s always fun to take a hypothetical look at one potential target from every team.

Philadelphia agreed to a deal with Brandon Graham on Friday but is expected to lose Javon Hargrave, Fletcher Cox, James Bradberry, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson — among others — to lucrative deals.

It was also announced that Darius Slay was granted permission to seek a trade, further clouding up a transition period for one of the NFL’s top defenses in 2022.

With the new league year fast approaching, here’s one pending free agent from each NFC team that the Birds should target.

10 Sleeper prospects for the Eagles to watch at 2023 NFL Combine

With the workouts set to begin, we’re looking at 10 sleeper prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles to watch at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine

The Eagles contingent is at the NFL scouting combine and with two first-round picks for the second year in a row, they’ll look to retool with 18 pending free agents set to hit the open market.

The Eagles have 9 critical contributors on defense set for free agency, and GM Howie Roseman has acknowledged that he won’t be able to retain his core of free agents with Jalen Hurts set to land a massive contract extension.

With the onfield portion of the combine set to heat up, we’re looking at 10 sleeper prospects for the Eagles to watch.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears: Stream, injury report, broadcast info

Trying to figure out where to find the Sooners game on Saturday? Here’s how to watch, stream or listen to Oklahoma vs. Baylor Bears. From @john9williams

Oklahoma (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) will face Baylor (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Sooners hold a 28-4 edge over the Baylor Bears all-time. However, since 2011, the series has been much closer. Oklahoma is just 8-4 vs. the Bears over the last 12 matchups, including the 2019 Big 12 title game.

From 2011 to 2014, the Bears went 3-1 against the Sooners, and Oklahoma responded by winning seven straight until Baylor ended Oklahoma’s perfect 2021 with a 27-14 win in Waco.

Now, the Sooners are playing for progress and pride and get the opportunity to play spoiler. Baylor still has a shot at the Big 12 title game but would need to win out in order to do so. This won’t be an easy contest as the Bears are averaging 38 points per game on the season. Can the improving Sooners’ defense take another step in the right direction?

We’ll find out on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s when you should tune in to see the game:

  • Date: Nov. 5, 2022
  • Time: 2 p.m. CT
  • Live Stream: ESPN+
  • Listen: Streaming on the Varsity App

Derrick Nnadi believes Chiefs DL coach Joe Cullen can elevate his game

The veteran defensive tackle likes the way new #Chiefs DL coach Joe Cullen challenges him to get better every day.

Derrick Nnadi was a free agent for the first time in his NFL career back in March. A former third-round draft pick in 2018, Nnadi says he chose to re-sign with the Kansas City Chiefs for a few reasons. First, he noted the relationship and rapport that he has with a lot of his teammates

“I work well with them,” Nnadi told reporters on Sunday.

Something else that played a key factor in Nnadi’s return to Kansas City, though. He was convinced to return by someone entirely unfamiliar.

“The conversations that I had with (defensive line) Coach Joe Cullen,” Nnadi continued. “I feel like he’s been the type of person that I have really been looking for to really up my game to the next level.”

One of the main coaching staff changes the team made this offseason was to move Brendan Daly to linebackers coach and hire Joe Cullen to take over on the defensive line. We learned from the first episode of the new season of “The Franchise” that the 54-year-old Cullen is a bit of a character. He’s someone that preaches effort and brings a lot of energy to the practice field.

Nnadi has clearly taken to his coaching style, but what is it about that style that is so appealing? Cullen seems to be pushing Nnadi to get better and to play faster, while also providing precise details on how he can become a better pass rusher.

“He challenges me, he really does,” Nnadi said. “He expects a lot out of me and he challenges me every day. So every day, it’s a mission. ‘Like what are we doing today? How will we get better? How fast, how hard can we play?’ So, I’m always up for the challenge.”

Only time will tell if Cullen can help turn around the defensive line in Kansas City, but it’s clear that veteran players like Nnadi have bought into what he’s selling.

Chiefs Hall of Fame DT Curley Culp dies at 75

#Chiefs Hall of Fame DT Curley Culp has died shortly after announcing he was diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer.

Nearly two weeks after announcing he had been diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer, Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer Curley Culp has died. The former NFL defensive tackle was 75 years old.

Culp’s wife, Collette Bloom Culp, delivered the news on Culp’s Twitter account Saturday morning.

“On behalf of our family and with a broken heart, I announce the passing of my husband, Curley Culp early this morning. We respectfully ask for privacy at this time.”

A native of Yuma, Arizona, Culp attended Arizona State University, playing football and becoming an NCAA heavyweight champion wrestler. Culp was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 1968  draft, and they intended to have him play offensive line. After a failed transition, they traded Culp to the Kansas City Chiefs in training camp.

Culp would play in the NFL for 14 seasons playing nose tackle, spending seven seasons in Kansas City, starting in a total of 70 regular-season games. He became an AFL champion and won Super Bowl IV with the Chiefs in 1969, playing on a defense that included five other future Hall of Famers (DT Buck Buchanan, LB Bobby Bell, LB Willie Lanier, CB Emmitt Thomas and DB Johnny Robinson). Culp was traded to the Houston Oilers in 1974 and spent another seven seasons in Houston before a brief stint with the Detroit Lions at the end of his career.

His triumphant NFL career included six Pro Bowl selections, five All-Pro selections, and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year nod. In March of 2008, Culp was inducted into the Chiefs’ ring of honor, becoming the 38th player, coach or contributor to join. Culp was enshrined in Canton, Ohio in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2013.
