Ravens select OL Roger Rosengarten with 62nd overall pick in 2024 NFL draft

Baltimore took a step to address the offensive line, selecting Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten with the 62nd overall

After adding more depth to the defense, Baltimore took a step to address the offensive line, selecting Washington Huskies offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten with the 62nd overall pick in the second round.

An offensive tackle at Washington, Rosengarten didn’t allow any sacks in his 1,158 pass-blocking snaps for the Huskies.

Baltimore could play the experienced offensive tackle at the right tackle spot, and he’s athletic enough to slide down to offensive guard.

Nate Wiggins to join former Tigers with the Ravens

Wiggins will join two former Tigers when he arrives in Baltimore.

Last night, Nate Wiggins was the first Clemson player to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was selected with the 30th pick of the first round and is heading to Baltimore to play with the Ravens.

Sports analysts, Clemson fans, and the Ravens’ faithful were fawning over the pick on social media, and luckily, Wiggins will have friendly faces to greet him when he arrives. The Ravens have two former Tigers on their roster.

His former teammate Trenton Simpson was selected by the Ravens with the 86th pick of the 2023 draft. At Clemson, Simpson had 166 tackles, 99 solo, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and five pass deflections. Last season with Baltimore, he played in 15 games as a rookie and recorded 13 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery.

However, the other player is more Wiggins’ speed (pun completely intended). Trayvon Mullen was picked up off waivers by Baltimore in 2023 but missed the season after having surgery on his toe.

Mullen was drafted by the Raiders in the second round of the 2019 draft, and in six seasons as a pro, he has recorded 150 tackles, 123 solo, 29 passes defended, and four interceptions.

At Clemson, Mullen was a part of the 2016-17 and 2018-19 National Championship squads. In his three years with Clemson, he accumulated 92 tackles, 67 solo, two sacks, seven pass deflections, and four interceptions.

While Wiggins might not be as familiar with Mullen, the veteran cornerback offers a great deal of experience that Wiggins could utilize.

Baltimore now has their own Clemson pipeline, and hours after Nate Wiggins was selected at No. 30 overall, his former Tigers teammate, and Ravens second year linebacker Trenton Simpson was the first to welcome him to the Castle.

Simpson was front and center at the Under Armour Performance Center as Wiggins and his family pulled up to greet the organization and have his first press conference.

Wiggins has good speed and excellent size for the position at 6-foot-2. He plays with a tremendous confidence and athleticism in coverage.

The rookie won’t be expected to start right away, but he’ll excel in packages that include Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Stephens and Simpson.

What role did Clemson coach Dabo Swinney play in Ravens’ drafting Nate Wiggins?

Before the Ravens selected Nate Wiggins in the NFL draft’s first round Thursday night, team officials received multiple text from Dabo Swinney

The Ravens are creating a Clemson-to-Baltimore pipeline after selecting Trenton Simpson and Nate Wiggins in back-to-back drafts.

Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney played a role in Wiggins landing with Baltimore, texting Ravens GM Eric DeCosta multiple times leading up to the 30th pick.

“We were getting texts from the head coach,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said. “Dabo was texting us during the first round [saying], ‘Please take this guy.'”

One of the top cornerbacks in the draft, Wiggins fell to No. 30, and he’ll learn from studs Marlon Humphrey and Brandon Stephens.

With the second and third rounds quickly approaching, here’s an updated Day 2 prediction for Baltimore.

Baltimore has picks No. 62 (Rd 2) and 93 (Rd 3) on Friday night.

After adding a cornerback to the roster in the first round, Baltimore still needs to add an offensive tackle, offensive guard, edge rusher and another running back.

Nick Saban on the Baltimore Ravens drafting Nate Wiggins in the first round

Saban on the Baltimore Ravens drafting Nate Wiggins.

Former Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins’s NFL dreams came true Thursday when the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Wiggins’ wait on draft night was long, but it was well worth it. With the No. 30 overall pick, the Ravens snagged Wiggins, adding him to a contender where he can make an immediate impact. Many had Wiggins going ahead of 30, with the Ravens taking advantage of him falling into their laps.

Following the first round, legendary head coach Nick Saban praised Wiggins and his potential.,

“Nate is a really, really good athlete, a really good player, he he’s got all the cover skills. He’s very aggressive. A very aggressive player. I think he’s got to get a little stronger, get a little more physical so he doesn’t get pushed around but this guy is a really good athlete. He’s got good ball skills. He will tackle. Yeah, he can play man to man,” Saban said.

“I think emotionally he’s got to mature a little bit, which when you’re playing corner, man, you got to forget about the last play. You got to have etch and sketch man, because you’re going to get beat and there’s nobody that plays that position doesn’t get beat every now and then. So you got to be able to play the next play.”

During his time with the Tigers, Wiggins was credited by the coaching staff with 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal in 1,377 career snaps over 34 games (18 starts) from 2021-23. In his final season with the Tigers, Wiggins recorded 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions across 10 games (seven starts).

We can’t wait to see what he can do at the next level.

Around the North: Ravens select cornerback Nate Wiggins of Clemson

AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens drafted Nate Wiggins, CB, from Clemson University with 30th pick in the NFL Draft.

The Cleveland Browns weren’t the only AFC North team waiting for the end of the first night of the NFL draft. The division rival Baltimore Ravens were also patiently waiting all night to make their selection. The Ravens selected Nate Wiggins the cornerback out of the University of Clemson. Wiggins is an extremely talented and young player. Wiggins will turn 21 years old in late August. Wiggins had the most potential at the position in this draft class.

Wiggins is an extremely talented cornerback who impressed scouts with his long speed. The speedster ran a 4.29 40-yard dash during the NFL Combine in February. Wiggins is a wiry and long talent, he measured in at 6’1 and 173 pounds. Wiggins’s slight frame was a big concern for many teams in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see if Wiggins can handle the physicality of the Ravens’ defense. The Ravens’ unit is known for their hard-hitting, and overly aggressive play. If Wiggins and his slight frame can survive in their system the sky is the limit for the talented cornerback. Wiggins has the speed and ability to be a shutdown cornerback for the Ravens. The Ravens unsurprisingly drafted a difference maker in round one of the NFL draft. The Browns will make their first selection of the NFL draft on Friday night.

Wiggins, at 6 feet 2 inches, has good speed and excellent size for the position.

He plays with tremendous confidence and athleticism in coverage.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 30th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Thursday evening.

Wiggins (6-1, 173 pounds) impressed at the NFL combine by running a 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds and a 10-yard split in 1.59 seconds. He emerged as a starter in his second season at Clemson, totaling 12 pass breakups and one interception (which was returned for a touchdown).

Last year, Wiggins earned first-team All-ACC recognition after nine pass breakups and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown).

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared Wiggins to Tyson Campbell, who was a second-round pick out of Georgia in the 2021 NFL draft.

Pundits had mixed rankings for Wiggins leading up to the draft. Jeff Risdon of Draft Wire had Wiggins ranked as the sixth-best cornerback in this year’s class behind Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell, Alabama’s Terrion Arnold, Iowa’s Cooper DeJean, Michigan’s Mike Sainristil and Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry.
