Five-star 2024 Missouri wide receiver visiting Notre Dame today

He’s on campus now

The Irish missed out on one five-star receiver earlier this week when Florida’s [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] committed to Ohio State. That has not stopped the Marcus Freeman recruiting train, as today he turned his focus on another five-star wide out, Ryan Wingo.

The six-foot-two-inch and 198-pound receiver from the 2024 recruiting class is viewed as one of the best in the country. Already holding offers from LSU, Florida, Oregon, Texas and plenty of others, Wingo is currently in South Bend visiting with Freeman and the offensive staff. Football runs in the Wingo family, as his brother was a running back for Arkansas from 2009-2012.

The Irish currently have three commits in the 2024 cycle which include quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], and defensive linemen [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag].

One 247Sports analyst is excited to see Notre Dame QB commit CJ Carr at Elite 11

The Irish commit has a chance to rise in the rankings this week

The top camp for quarterbacks is upon us and [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] will be well represented when the Elite 11 finals gets started in California on Wednesday.

Irish commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] is one of the top quarterbacks that was invited and 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins is very excited to see what he can do against the field. When asked which signal-caller they were most excited to see, Biggins picked Carr.

I like his tape and really like some of his off-season 7-on-7 footage. The Notre Dame commit has one of the quicker releases and cleanest strokes in this year’s class. He’s accurate to all three levels of the field and the game just looks easy for him. I see a lot of upside with him and could definitely see a scenario where he vaults himself into the discussion as a top-three signal caller in the class. – Biggins

That’s extremely high praise and great news for Irish fans. Having personally seen Carr work out the summer after his freshman year, then his highlight film the last two years, he’s made great strides in his game.

Carr is currently 6-foot, 2-inch and weighing 195 pounds. He is ranked as the 6th quarterback and 47th overall player according to the 247Sports composite. If Biggins is correct, Carr could inch himself closer to 5-star status.

Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class commitments

Who is next?

The 2023 recruiting cycle has not yet signed, but that doesn’t mean the Irish are waiting for that class to fill up. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is already working hard on the 2024 class, and here are the current commitments for that class in order. (This list will be updated as more prospects pledge to Notre Dame.)

Four-star receiver recruit Micah Gilbert picks Notre Dame

Make that three solid receivers in the 2024 recruiting class.

It wasn’t really a surprise, but it was nice to hear nonetheless. Four-star receiver [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] of Charlotte, North Carolina officially has become the third receiver of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, joining [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and recent commit [autotag]Isiah Canion[/autotag]. Gilbert made the announcement live on 247Sports’ YouTube channel:

By the time Gilbert announced his commitment date, it was clear that he was going to select Notre Dame. All 247Sports experts who made a prediction agreed in the days leading up to the announcement. Count this as another successful recruiting job by the tandem of [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag]. They beat out heavy recruiting from Duke and North Carolina, which probably were seen as finalists in part because of their proximity to Gilbert.

It will be very interesting to watch [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] figure out how to balance throwing to the three-headed monster of Williams, Canion and Gilbert. This is the future of the Notre Dame program, and it’s looking very bright.

Watch: Notre Dame quarterback commit CJ Carr at Elite 11 Regional camp

The Irish have a elite quarterback option in their 2024 recruiting class

If there is one position holding back [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] from joining the elite’s of college football, it’s at quarterback.

Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has found a one-year stop-gap answer in transfer [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag], but after what we saw during the Blue and Gold game, the depth behind him isn’t great.

You know who is great? Irish commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 195 pound signal caller is the 5th quarterback and 41st overall player in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite.

Yes, the Irish had had higher ranked commits at the position ([autotag]Jimmy Clausen[/autotag], [autotag]Dayne Crist[/autotag], [autotag]Gunner Kiel[/autotag] and [autotag]Brandon Wimbush[/autotag]), but none has the skill set that Carr possesses.

Want proof? Check out the video below as Carr earns himself an invite to the Elite 11 finals, the top camp for quarterback prospects.

Notre Dame 2024 commit has risen to 5-star status

An impressive rise for the future Irish star

When [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] accepted a verbal commitment from Illinois wide receiver [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag], it was viewed as a big recruiting win for head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag].

The pledge looks even better now as Williams has been elevated from a 4-star prospect to a 5-star by the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 190 pound pass catcher is now ranked as the 6th best wide receiver and 29th overall player in the country.

With the move up, Williams is now the top rated player in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, ahead of quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag]. The two future teammates form one of the best wide receiver and quarterback combos in the country.

Notre Dame offers 2024 wide receiver from California

The Irish have focused hard on receiver offers recently

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] have a laser focus on improving the wide receiver room in South Bend. It may seen like a broken record, but it’s just the position that the Irish have recently been offering.

Over the weekend offers went out multiple receivers: [autotag]Chris Henry Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]David Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag]. All are big-time prospects that would be great additions to the program.

The Irish weren’t done however, as California receiver [autotag]Kwazi Gilmer[/autotag] was offered a scholarship today. The six-foot-two-inch and 180-pound pass-catcher has seen his recruitment blow up since entering 2023. Offers from [autotag]UCLA[/autotag], Michigan State and [autotag]Arizona[/autotag] already this year show that Gilmer is starting to make a rise among college recruiting boards.

Gilmer took a visit to USC over the weekend, but it seems like he is willing to go out of state to play at the next level. The Irish are in on him early and quarterback commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], one of the lead recruiting commitments, is behind the offer as well.

Notre Dame football: Should Irish be worried about prized QB recruit C.J. Carr?

On a scale of 1-10, how worried are you about CJ Carr potentially looking elsewhere?

Before leaving Notre Dame for Alabama, one thing former Irish offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] did was improve the talent in the quarterback room through recruiting. He helped land commitments from [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] and [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag] in recent classes, as well as from transfer quarterback [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag].

The future for Notre Dame at the position however appears to have the potential to be as high as the career as 2024 quarterback [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag]. Carr, the grandson of (0.5) national championship Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, committed to the Irish late last summer.  He has the highest recruiting ranking of any Notre Dame quarterback since 2015 (247Sports).

Could Carr be looking to take his talents elsewhere, though?

Technically, yes. But also no. I know that’s more than a bit confusing to read so work with me here.

According to Landyn Rosow of Rivals, Carr is going to visit Texas A&M this weekend.

Top 20 Recruit in 2024 CJ Carr (ND commit) will be visiting Texas A&M this weekend. #GigEm

What isn’t mentioned in Rosow’s tweet is that Carr’s 7-on-7 team is competing at Texas A&M this weekend, which is why he’ll be visiting the College Station campus. Just like he did recently when participating with the same team near the University of Washington.

Based off how aggressively Texas A&M approaches name, image and likeness issues they’re certainly a program that strikes a bit of fear when you hear they’re hosting a player. But again, context is everything here.

Carr declared to On3 that he was still locked in on his Notre Dame commitment shortly after Rees departed. If we’re to believe Carr (and what has he done to date to make anyone feel otherwise?) then Notre Dame shouldn’t have much to worry about here.

That’s not to say they don’t still have to make Carr feel special themselves, but that’s just the world of recruiting. I hate the difficulty in the task of trying to get in the mind of a 16 or 17 year old kid, but in order to know the answer that’s what one has to do.

Based off what we know and have heard from Carr, this certainly feels like a big to-do over what seems like a whole lot of nothing.

Now let’s just hope for the sake of the future of Notre Dame at quarterback it stays that way.

Check out a few highlights of Carr and why Notre Dame fans are so excited about him below!

2024 QB and Notre Dame commit CJ Carr set to visit Texas A&M

Making the trip with his 7v7 team, 2024 Qb and current Notre Dame commit CJ Carr will visit the Aggies this weekend

The Aggies have solidified their 2023 recruiting class, ranked 15th in the country while signing 11 4-Star prospects, including running back Reuben Owens, and 5-Star + Defensive tackle David Hicks Jr. On Wednesday, On3 writer Joe Spears revealed that 2024 4-Star Quarterback CJ Carr will visit Texas A&M this coming weekend, although, this will not be an individual visit as Carr will be accompanied by his 7v7 team.

After former Notre Dame offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees officially departed to take the same position at Alabama, potential recruiting shakeups were on the horizon, though Carr was apparently unfazed by the move in accordance with his future under Irish Head coach Marcus Freeman.

Carr is ranked as the 48th prospect and 6th Quarterback prospect in the 2024 class according to On3, and even though the Aggies signed 3-Star Quarterback Anthony Maddox earlier this year, Carr’s recruiting journey will definitely be something to keep an eye on in the coming months, with the hope that Head coach Jimbo Fisher can have an instant effect on Carr’s future plans.

Report: Top Notre Dame target will visit just a few days ahead of commitment date

Will the Irish lock up a verbal after the visit?

The [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football staff has to be ecstatic about the recent events surrounding Illinois 5-star defensive tackle [autotag]Justin Scott[/autotag].

The big man was set to visit South Bend this weekend but a report from [autotag]247Sports Tom Loy[/autotag] has Scott pushing back his visit to the final weekend of January, just days ahead of Scott’s birthday and commitment day.

This is a very good sign for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and the Irish, especially considering that multiple other commits might be on campus that weekend with him. Quarterback commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] is leading the charge and looks to be on campus while Scott is there.

At the current moment, all signs look very positive for Scott to join the 2024 Notre Dame football recruiting class.
