Notre Dame officially names Mike Brown it’s new wide receivers coach

It’s official!

It was clear that [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag] was a players coach at Notre Dame, but that didn’t matter to head coach Marcus Freeman, as he let go of this former wide receivers coach.

On Sunday evening, the Irish announced they had found Stuckey’s replacement, [autotag]Mike Brown[/autotag], even if it was one of the worst kept secrets. New leaked over a week ago that this move was going to happen, but it now has become official.

Brown held the same position for the Wisconsin Badgers this season, also with the associate head coach moniker along with his receiver duties. He followed Luke Fickell from Cincinnati where he was also the receivers coach along with passing game coordinator in his final season in 2022.

The former NFL receiver played collegiately at Liberty and was named the Big South Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010.

Notre Dame football has relieved Chansi Stuckey of his role

The Irish will have a new coach leading the receiver group

In a surprising move, Notre Dame football will move on from wide receivers coach [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag], as reported by John Brice.

He was in his second year coaching the group, but now head coach Marcus Freeman will need to find a replacement. The move makes sense, the wide receivers had issues all season finding separation, but that could have been for a variety of reasons.

No names have emerged as of yet as a replacement, but you have to expect that Freeman will find someone who has plenty of experience to help guide the underperforming unit. Chris Tyree announced yesterday that he is entering the portal, so the leading Irish receiver is already gone.

FIW Exclusive: Interview with Notre Dame commit Cam Williams, Part III

Hear from one of Notre Dame’s top 2024 commits.

[autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] is a four-star receiver commit in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class. He is the state of Illinois’ second-best recruit in that class according to 247Sports. He also happens to attend Glenbard South in Glen Ellyn, my alma mater. To say the least, it’s been great to have him represent the same school community I once did as a student and continue to do as an alumnus.

I had the opportunity to see him play his most recent game, and he scored two touchdowns. One of them came on this 62-yard run that I captured myself from the top of the bleachers. This run is a perfect indication that he once was a running back:

I had a chance to speak with Williams after the game, making this the third time he has spoken with this site. I did it once last year, and our own Michael Chen did the other interview not long before. Here’s what what he to say:

Notre Dame makes top 10 for four-star wide receiver

The Irish at least still have a seat at the table

When [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag] joined Notre Dame‘s staff as wide receivers coach one year ago he was tasked with upgrading the talent at the position.  Through one recruiting class he’s taken a big step in the right direction but now he must start to stack classes to build some depth as well.

Stuckey and Notre Dame got some good news recently about a four-star receiver in the 2024 class. [autotag]Demello Jones[/autotag] of Swainsboro, Georgia released his top 10 schools and Notre Dame made the cut.

That’s not to say they’re the favorite by any means as Jones has his home-state Georgia also included as well as the likes of North Carolina, Miami, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

It still feels like Notre Dame ultimately winning this one would be a rather big upset, but in order to do so they have to at least have a seat at the table and they can still say they have that.

Notre Dame football: 2023 coaching staff tracker

More movement on June 20…

Although it was anticipated to be a much slower off-season in terms of news for Notre Dame after Marcus Freeman’s first full year on the job, plenty of changes to the coaching staff have occurred.  It started with a famed graduate assistant returning to the Big Ten university he starred at as a player and quickly snowballed into a national search for a new offensive coordinator and much more.

As we count down the days until Notre Dame football officially gets going this fall, we look back at the departures and arrivals to Notre Dame’s coaching staff.

Massachusetts 2023 athlete had a great official visit with Notre Dame

The Irish hosted an East coast underrated star over the weekend

We are into the summer recruiting session and the Irish continue to push an envelope that has not been seen often. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has completely changed the recruiting philosophy, going after players that former Notre Dame coaches never even thought would be options.

On Tuesday evening, Massachusetts 2023 athlete [autotag]Ronan Hanafin[/autotag] tweeted out a few pictures of his official visit along with tagging Freeman, offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag], wide receiver coach [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag], tight end coach [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag], special teams coordinator [autotag]Brian Mason[/autotag], on-campus recruiting coordinator [autotag]Mackenzie Zanow[/autotag], and graduate assistant [autotag]Johnny Aylward[/autotag]. The six-foot-three-inch and 206-pound player is most likely being recruited on the offensive side of the ball after seeing who he tagged in his post.

The Irish going after Hanafin is a very positive development due to his current offer list which includes Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan and others. Although he is ranked by some outlets as a three-star prospect, that offer list shows that Hanafin might be underrated at the moment.

Hanafin has yet to schedule a date for a verbal commitment, but it might be soon as he has two more official visits to Alabama and Nebraska.

Notre Dame football: Eyes of Irish are upon Texas (YET again)

Irish eyes are smiling upon Texas

Roughly two weeks ago Notre Dame landed a commitment from defensive end Loghan Thomas, adding to their recent run of attracting talent from Texas.  Roughly two weeks later we’re already updating and re-releasing this story because another Texas product has committed to Notre Dame.

This time its running back [autotag]Kedren Young[/autotag], who announced his commitment on Monday night.  With that at the front of your mind, let’s review how [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and his staff have changed Notre Dame’s Texas narrative in short order.

Notre Dame football is well known for recruiting coast-to-coast.  It makes sense as the recruiting hotbed in their home state of Indiana struggles in comparison to the Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas-types of the football world.

Now, about that Texas thing.  Notre Dame is doing something in the Longhorn State that they simply haven’t done in a very long time.  They’re establishing roots and making the high school football hot bed a priority.

Since 2000 and with the recent addition of 2024 recruits Loghan Thomas, and Young, 30 players have ultimately signed to play at Notre Dame after playing high school ball in Texas.  I’m no math wizard but that’s just over a player per year on average.

Considering it’s the state that annually puts more talent in the NFL than any of the other 49, it’s a place you’d probably like to get talent from regularly.  That largely didn’t happen for Notre Dame from 2015-2021 when just five players in a seven-year recruiting cycle came from Texas.

It is however changing in large part to the efforts of wide receivers coach [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag].  Stuckey was key in landing three receivers alone from Texas in the 2023 class and the Irish already have one commit while they’re working on more for 2024.

Here are Notre Dame’s high school commits from Texas since 2000.  Although the numbers aren’t huge, the percentage of them who turned out to be significant contributors at Notre Dame is impressive.

Four-star receiver recruit Micah Gilbert picks Notre Dame

Make that three solid receivers in the 2024 recruiting class.

It wasn’t really a surprise, but it was nice to hear nonetheless. Four-star receiver [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] of Charlotte, North Carolina officially has become the third receiver of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, joining [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and recent commit [autotag]Isiah Canion[/autotag]. Gilbert made the announcement live on 247Sports’ YouTube channel:

By the time Gilbert announced his commitment date, it was clear that he was going to select Notre Dame. All 247Sports experts who made a prediction agreed in the days leading up to the announcement. Count this as another successful recruiting job by the tandem of [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag]. They beat out heavy recruiting from Duke and North Carolina, which probably were seen as finalists in part because of their proximity to Gilbert.

It will be very interesting to watch [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] figure out how to balance throwing to the three-headed monster of Williams, Canion and Gilbert. This is the future of the Notre Dame program, and it’s looking very bright.

Notre Dame lands 2024 four-star receiver Isiah Canion

The 2024 corps is starting to take shape.

Finally, [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] has some receiver company in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class. The Irish had taken an interest in [autotag]Isiah Canion[/autotag], who hails from Warner Robins, Georgia, and they officially extended him an offer in March. Since then, eight other schools have offered Canion, but 247Sports’ experts all had him picking the Irish earlier this week. Finally, the our-star recruit made it official:

So kudos to [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag] for landing who now has to be the most athletic recruit in the Irish’s recruiting class. Canion also excels as a baseball player, and it will be very interesting to see if he joins the ranks of Notre Dame student-athletes who play more than one sport.

For now, the Irish can rest easy in knowing they’ve gotten Williams some help for when he arrives in South Bend. Additional help might come in the form of recruit Micah Gilbert in a few days. Oh, and Williams didn’t miss a beat in reacting to this news:

Notre Dame receiver target Micah Gilbert announces commitment date

Here’s hoping the crystal ball isn’t lying.

[autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] is one of the biggest receiver recruits Notre Dame has landed in recent years. But so far, he’s the Irish’s only pure receiver commit in the the 2024 recruiting class. That might change next week as receiver target Micah Gilbert has announced May 2 as the day he will make his college decision. The announcement will take place live on the 247Sports YouTube channel.

All signs point to Gilbert a Charlotte, North Carolina native, picking Notre Dame after he was recruited by [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag]. Duke and North Carolina figure to be the biggest threat to the Irish, though that also could be because he’s from Charlotte. The other schools in the mix for the four-star recruit are South Carolina, Michigan, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.

Gilbert would be a perfect complimentary piece to Williams, and here’s hoping he feels the same way. We all will find out the answer to that question really soon.
