UCF gets commitments from three 4-star recruits from the class of 2024

This week the Knights have made a series of splashy recruitments in the 2024 cycle.

With several prominent and more-powerful programs within their own state, you don’t normally hear much about the University of Central Florida (UCF) in the recruiting game. This week the Knights have made a series of splashy recruitments in the 2024 cycle, though.

First, on Monday, UCF got a commitment from a four-star running back. Then yesterday, two more blue-chip recruits in the class of 2024 announced their commitments to the Knights. Here’s who they are and where they come from at the high school level.

Oak Ridge (Texas) RB Frankie Arthur

Arthur (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) is ranked as high as No. 5 at his position and had offers from 18 other schools, including SMU, Memphis and Oregon.

Rockledge (Fla.) S Jaylen Heyward

ESPN has Heyward ranked No. 2 among safeties in his class and No. 71 nationally. Aside from UCF Heyward, (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) got offers from 35 other programs, including Georgia, Miami, Alabama and Auburn.

Carrollwood Day (Fla.) WR Bredell Richardson

Nobody is higher on Richardson 6-foot-1, 185 pounds) than Rivals, who have him ranked No. 22 in Florida, No. 23 at wide receiver and No. 128 nationally. He was an extremely popular recruit, getting offers from a total of 47 different programs. That list includes Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and South Carolina.

UCF’s class of 2024 now has 17 hard commits, and as a group, they are ranked No. 25 in the nation.

Michigan football a finalist for 2024 Florida native WR

Let’s get some more Florida talent to #Michigan!

The maize and blue are looking to add to their talented 2024 recruiting class by getting commitments at the wide receiver position.

Michigan football became a finalist for three-star wide receiver Mekhai White a couple of days ago. The Wolverines are also an intriguing option for both five-star Ryan Wingo and four-star Gatlin Bair.

On Thursday, another top wide receiver target named Michigan one of his finalists.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Michigan made the final four for four-star Bredell Richardson. The Wolverines are a finalist along with Michigan State, LSU and Oregon.

Richardson spoke with Fawcett about each of his final four schools. He talked about bringing some Florida talent up north to Michigan.

“I love what they have going on,” Richardson said. “Back to back Big10 champs and beating Ohio State back to back years. They’re on to something. I’d love to bring some Florida talent up north.”

The Tampa Bay (Florida) Carrollwood Day prospect is the 259th-ranked recruit in the 2024 class on the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver is the 37th-ranked WR and the 43rd-ranked recruit in Florida. The Florida prospect took an unofficial visit to Michigan and is looking to set up an official visit.

Here is Andrew Ivin’s scouting report on Richardson, via 247Sports:

A polished outside receiver that has played a significant amount of varsity snaps over the past three years for a talented Carrollwood Day program. Not the biggest or the quickest pass catcher out there, but someone that understands how to win with both technique and effort. Measured just over 6-foot, 185 pounds in spring of 2022. Likely to only add more mass in the upper half once working with a college strength coach. Fires out of his release and gets to work. Does a nice job of sinking his hips on break routes and will track back towards the football before attacking it with his strong hands. Top-end speed is a bit of a question mark with limited testing data available, but has shown that he can create some separation as he makes his way into the deeper third, at least on Friday nights. Should be viewed as a well-rounded, high-floor prospect. Might lack true juice, but will do all the little things that are required to win games, like clear traffic on the perimeter and work for his quarterback when the pocket breaks down. Likely to find most success in a modern, pro-style attack that places an emphasis on timing.

Notre Dame football in top 8 for 2024 Florida wide receiver

The Irish are still in it with this receiver

There is an interesting theme going on with [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football this weekend. It has to do with the wide receiver position and getting more talent in the room.

On Friday, the Irish offered two more receivers, in their search to add depth to the position. Even though it may seem like a small advance to be included in a players top 8, Notre Dame were included in [autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag]’s group.

The Irish joined Michigan, Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Michigan State, Colorado and Georgia as schools the receiver will consider going forward. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and his staff offered a scholarships to Richardson in March, so they’ve been after the six-foot-one-inch and 185-pound receiver for a good amount of time.

Notre Dame offers 2024 wide receiver from California

The Irish have focused hard on receiver offers recently

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] have a laser focus on improving the wide receiver room in South Bend. It may seen like a broken record, but it’s just the position that the Irish have recently been offering.

Over the weekend offers went out multiple receivers: [autotag]Chris Henry Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]David Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag]. All are big-time prospects that would be great additions to the program.

The Irish weren’t done however, as California receiver [autotag]Kwazi Gilmer[/autotag] was offered a scholarship today. The six-foot-two-inch and 180-pound pass-catcher has seen his recruitment blow up since entering 2023. Offers from [autotag]UCLA[/autotag], Michigan State and [autotag]Arizona[/autotag] already this year show that Gilmer is starting to make a rise among college recruiting boards.

Gilmer took a visit to USC over the weekend, but it seems like he is willing to go out of state to play at the next level. The Irish are in on him early and quarterback commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], one of the lead recruiting commitments, is behind the offer as well.

LSU still trending for top 150 receiver Bredell Richardson

The Tampa prospect said he “definitely” plans to take a trip to LSU this spring.

Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] hasn’t been afraid to go down to the Sunshine State to sign skill position talent.

He added Miami receiver [autotag]Jalen Brown[/autotag] in 2023, and he’ll look to add four-star receiver [autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag] in 2024. The Tampa Carrollwood Day prospect recently included LSU among a star-studded top eight, and the Tigers seem to have some momentum for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound wideout.

He told On3’s Billy Embody (subscription required) that he is “definitely” planning to take a trip to LSU following the end of the dead period, likely for the program’s Junior Day in March. He said he won’t visit all eight schools but has been hesitant to trim his list with the frequency of coaching changes in the sport.

Richardson has a good relationship with LSU receivers coach [autotag]Cortez Hankton[/autotag], who was teammates with Carrollwood Day head coach Marshall McDuffie on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Tigers do have some ground to make up, however, as Notre Dame is a 70.8% favorite to land him per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

LSU makes final 8 for 4-star wide receiver

The Tigers are one of a star-studded list of finalists for Bredell Richardson.

[autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound, four-star wide receiver from the class of 2024. Richardson is from Tampa, where he plays for Carrollwood Day High School. The Carrollwood Day Patriots finished the 2022 season 6-4 with a loss to Clearwater Central Catholic in the second round of the 1M District 3 playoffs.
