Notre Dame trending for Texas cornerback

Notre Dame looking to continue to change their Texas narrative

It appears Notre Dame has made a strong connection with 2024 cornerback [autotag]Leonard Moore[/autotag].  Moore, a three-star prospect from Round Rock, Texas, has been given a three crystal ball predictions of committing to Notre Dame.  All three were given on the morning of January 31.

Moore is listed at 6-2, 177-pounds and has offers from 15 different programs on a list that includes the likes of Oregon, TCU, and Wisconsin. Playing in the best high school football state in the nation, he is coming off a junior year that saw him named a Texas District 25-6A unanimous first-team selection.

Notre Dame currently has seven commitments in the 2024 recruiting class.  Just two of those seven are expected to play defense for the Irish; defensive end [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] of Princeton, New Jersey and cornerback [autotag]Carson Hobbs[/autotag] of Moeller in Cincinnati.

Five-star 2024 Missouri wide receiver visiting Notre Dame today

He’s on campus now

The Irish missed out on one five-star receiver earlier this week when Florida’s [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] committed to Ohio State. That has not stopped the Marcus Freeman recruiting train, as today he turned his focus on another five-star wide out, Ryan Wingo.

The six-foot-two-inch and 198-pound receiver from the 2024 recruiting class is viewed as one of the best in the country. Already holding offers from LSU, Florida, Oregon, Texas and plenty of others, Wingo is currently in South Bend visiting with Freeman and the offensive staff. Football runs in the Wingo family, as his brother was a running back for Arkansas from 2009-2012.

The Irish currently have three commits in the 2024 cycle which include quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], and defensive linemen [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag].

Former Notre Dame verbal finds his new home at rival school

We’d say good luck but ….

It’s never great to see a commit leave before the land on campus and for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], or any school, it hurts even more when they land at a rival campus.

Former Irish defensive end [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag], who was the first pledge of the 2024 class, decommitted at the end of May. It also happened to be the same day that Michigan offered the 6-foot, 2-inch and 290 pound New Jersey native.

The smoke around Wafle making the change to the Wolverines started and on Sunday he made his decision. On his official visit, Wafle made his choice, he will play for Michigan.

The Irish would be worried, but they already replaced Wafle in the class with Loghan Thomas who is a significantly higher ranked prospect.

Twitter reactions: Michigan football lands former Notre Dame commit

Michigan is on fire! #GoBlue

Michigan football is coming off a huge recruiting weekend when it had two five-star 2024 recruits along with plenty of high four-star recruits on campus. Social media has been blowing up with how well the Wolverines have been recruiting, and the recruits are tweeting about their visits.

This weekend was something special for a lot of the recruits, but one prospect, in particular, had a wonderful weekend. The maize and blue received a commitment from former Notre Dame commit, Owen Wafle on Sunday after his official visit to Ann Arbor.

Wafle, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive lineman, is out of Princeton (New Jersey) Hun School. According to the 247Sports composite, he is a four-star recruit and ranked 406th in the country in the 2024 rankings.

Wafle was a one-time Fighting Irish commit before he decommitted. He held offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Oklahoma and West Virginia among others.

Here are the best Twitter reactions after Wafle committed to Michigan.

Michigan football completes flip of former Notre Dame pledge

If you follow recruiting, you knew this one was coming! #GoBlue

For about a year, Notre Dame had what it thought to be a solid football player committed along the defensive line. However, there’s a reason they say don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

2024 Princeton (New Jersey) Hun School four-star defensive lineman Owen Wafle decommitted from the Irish on May 24, the same day he received an offer from the Wolverines. He took an official visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 9, and that was apparently good enough for the four-star prospect.

Wafle announced his commitment to the maize and blue on Sunday, completing the flip from Notre Dame.

Listed at 6 feet, 2 inches and 290 pounds, Wafle is rated highest by Rivals and ESPN. Both have him as a four-star, and Rivals has him as the No. 15 defensive lineman in the country.

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Brian Dohn:

Thick build with plus length. Has low center of gravity and plays low to win leverage. Has snaps on both sides of ball as fullback and defensive lineman. Strong, physical, hard-nosed player with strong work ethic. Showed ability to bend during spring workout. Ferocious style of play evident during in-game eval in fall 2021. Gets off quickly at snap and covers ground well in first three steps. Shows stack-and-shed ability. Can take on block and re-direction along line of scrimmage. Can anchor in run game. Willing to take on and fight through double teams. Relies heavily on power and strength and often wins leverage by sinking hips. Plays with high effort and has strong work ethic. Does show rip and spin moves but needs to continue to develop technique and diversify move sets. Has to maintain lower body flexibility while also getting stronger. Multi-year starter at high-level program. Has late round NFL draft potential.

Not only was Wafle committed to ND, but he has offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Oklahoma and several others.

Michigan football projected to land 4-star DL and former Notre Dame commit

#Michigan is looking to steal a player away from rival Notre Dame! #GoBlue

Although Michigan and Notre Dame haven’t met on the gridiron since 2019, the rivalry continues to get juicy.

The Fighting Irish lost a commitment from four-star defensive lineman, Owen Wafle, on Wednesday. He went to Twitter to announce the decommitment with a letter of thanks to the Notre Dame community and football staff.

Ironically, Michigan offered Wafle on Wednesday as well, and Owen has set up an official visit to Ann Arbor in June to meet with the coaches and check out the campus.

Also, ironically, Michigan received eight Crystal Ball predictions to get Wafle in the 2024 class on 247Sports. Both Steve Wiltfong and Brian Dohn — who are both national recruiting analysts —  are two of them that put in predictions for Wafle to head to the Wolverines.

Wafle hails from Princeton (New Jersey) Hun School and stands at 6-foot-2 and 290-pounds. According to 247Sports Composite, Wafle is a four-star, the 405th-ranked recruit in the 2024 class, the 41st-ranked defensive lineman, and the No. 8 recruit in the state of New Jersey.

Here is Brian Dohn’s scouting report on Wafle:

Wafle has notable offers from Duke, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

Rutgers football recruiting: New Jersey four-star Owen Wafle de-commits from Notre Dame

Owen Wafle de-commits from Notre Dame.

One of the top prospects in New Jersey, defensive lineman Owen Wafle, has opened up his recruitment. The class of 2024 standout made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

Wafle, who originally had committed to Notre Dame last May, released a statement saying he “believes it is important for me to explore other opportunities and find the best fit for my personal and athlete development.”

A 6-foot-3, 270-pound prospect at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.), Wafle is ranked a four-star by Rivals and is their third-best player in New Jersey in this current recruiting class.

He has been offered by Rutgers and had made multiple visits to campus prior to his Notre Dame commitment last May

He has an offer list that includes Boston College, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

Rutgers football has done well with recruiting players from The Hun in recent years since the return of head coach Greg Schiano to the program. Four-star offensive lineman Jacob Allen, an All-American selection in high school, was a significant commitment to Rutgers in the 2022 recruiting class.

[lawrence-related id=27152]

Last year, Rutgers landed three-star tight end Logan Blake, who was a star at The Hun. He held offers from UConn and Pittsburgh.

The Rutgers recruiting class for 2024 is currently ranked top 30 in the nation according to 247Sports.

Breaking: Notre Dame loses 2024 defensive line commit

The Irish see their second decommit of the 2024 cycle

It has been a little over a year since New Jersey defensive lineman [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] committed to [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], giving the Irish a great start to the 2024 recruiting class.

Unfortunately, Wafle has decided to part ways with the Irish, as he announced on Wednesday morning that he was decommitting. He becomes the second player to commit and then change their mind as another defensive lineman, [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag], also opted to move on.

What’s interesting about Wafle’s decision was the fact that he was reportedly offered a scholarship by Michigan, as it looks like they are going hard after the 6-foot, 3-inch and 290 pound lineman.

Wafle was ranked as the 30th best edge defender and 404th overall player in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite.

Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class commitments

Who is next?

The 2023 recruiting cycle has not yet signed, but that doesn’t mean the Irish are waiting for that class to fill up. (This list will be updated as more prospects pledge to Notre Dame.)
