Notre Dame receives another commitment from offensive lineman!

Notre Dame will stay at No. 1 in the 2023 recruiting rankings for at least a little longer after this one!

Remember when Notre Dame landed five-star quarterback [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] from Michigan less than 24 hours ago?  Well that’s officially old news as Carr is no longer the most recent commitment to the Fighting Irish football program.

[lawrence-related id=57252]

Offensive lineman [autotag]Elijah Paige[/autotag] in the 2023 recruiting class is the latest commitment, making his decision known early Friday afternoon.

Paige comes with a three-star grade according to the 247Sports composite but a four star grade from the official 247Sports rankings.  He’s a mountain of a young man as he’s listed at 6-7, 304 pounds out of Pinnacle High School in Phoenix and chose the Irish over more than 30 other offers.

Paige is the 15th commitment in the 2023 recruiting class for Notre Dame and the fourth offensive lineman.  USC, UCLA, and Washington were among the other programs Paige visited before making his pledge to [autotag]Harry Hiestand[/autotag], [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], and the rest of the Notre Dame football program.

See it: Future Notre Dame quarterback pitches five-star defender

Does Notre Dame still have a chance here?

It’s one thing to be verbally committed to a school in college football these days.  It’s another to be an active recruiter for the rest of that school’s recruiting class.

Future Notre Dame quarterback [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] is certainly more than just committed and has no problem at all trying to bring more talent along with him to South Bend.  We’ve seen it in the past when he’s posted photos with other members of the recruiting class, including five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag].

He’s now doing it to try and keep one of Notre Dame’s biggest 2024 targets home.  That is of course five-star defensive tackle [autotag]Justin Scott[/autotag].

Notre Dame has seemingly put their foot on the gas in terms of recruiting the Chicagoland area in recent months.  The aforementioned Williams is already committed and is a five-star wide receiver while Scott seemed close to committing at one point.  However, as things stand today it would appear the Irish have their work cut out to land him.

For as close to home as Notre Dame is for Scott, he’s certainly had a difficult time making it to South Bend with any regularity.  As key as his addition to the 2024 class would be, his actions make it seem like the Irish aren’t his top choice.

Stay tuned as I’d love to be wrong about this one.

Notre Dame football: MVP quarterback to enter transfer portal

Will he be back or how much will he be missed?

In Notre Dame’s most recent game it was quarterback [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] returning to the field after not playing for three months who helped lead the Irish to victory and secured Gator Bowl MVP honors.  Now the rising junior is entering the transfer portal.

Buchner is entering the portal but is willing to return to Notre Dame if he doesn’t like the available options.  ESPN’s Pete Thamel linked Buchner to Alabama and former Notre Dame play-caller Tommy Rees.

So will he or won’t he return to Notre Dame?  Having [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] now and[autotag] C.J. Carr[/autotag] for the future certainly lessens the blow to the Irish but this one comes as a bit of a surprise after having heard all spring how close the competition for the QB-1 spot supposedly was.

Below are some of the best pictures of Buchner’s time at Notre Dame:

Check it out: Notre Dame’s top 2024 recruits on campus

Notre Dame’s future quarterback was on campus this week with his future go-to target. Check out the photos here.

A couple of Notre Dame‘s stars of tomorrow were on campus today.   Those being 2024 commitments [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] and [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag].  The future Notre Dame signal caller took to Twitter to share a few photos from his most recent visit to South Bend.  Although not a guarantee, it certainly seems like both have their future numbers picked out.

Obviously keeping the commitments of a couple of top-50 overall players in the 2024 cycle is important but what is also necessary is having them on campus to help recruit the rest of their class.  Carr has been very vocal about helping recruit more talent to Notre Dame. There is a very long way to go but having a top-six national wide receiver and a top-five quarterback are a couple of pretty good places to start.

Notre Dame football: Should Irish be worried about prized QB recruit C.J. Carr?

On a scale of 1-10, how worried are you about CJ Carr potentially looking elsewhere?

Before leaving Notre Dame for Alabama, one thing former Irish offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] did was improve the talent in the quarterback room through recruiting. He helped land commitments from [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] and [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag] in recent classes, as well as from transfer quarterback [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag].

The future for Notre Dame at the position however appears to have the potential to be as high as the career as 2024 quarterback [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag]. Carr, the grandson of (0.5) national championship Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, committed to the Irish late last summer.  He has the highest recruiting ranking of any Notre Dame quarterback since 2015 (247Sports).

Could Carr be looking to take his talents elsewhere, though?

Technically, yes. But also no. I know that’s more than a bit confusing to read so work with me here.

According to Landyn Rosow of Rivals, Carr is going to visit Texas A&M this weekend.

Top 20 Recruit in 2024 CJ Carr (ND commit) will be visiting Texas A&M this weekend. #GigEm

What isn’t mentioned in Rosow’s tweet is that Carr’s 7-on-7 team is competing at Texas A&M this weekend, which is why he’ll be visiting the College Station campus. Just like he did recently when participating with the same team near the University of Washington.

Based off how aggressively Texas A&M approaches name, image and likeness issues they’re certainly a program that strikes a bit of fear when you hear they’re hosting a player. But again, context is everything here.

Carr declared to On3 that he was still locked in on his Notre Dame commitment shortly after Rees departed. If we’re to believe Carr (and what has he done to date to make anyone feel otherwise?) then Notre Dame shouldn’t have much to worry about here.

That’s not to say they don’t still have to make Carr feel special themselves, but that’s just the world of recruiting. I hate the difficulty in the task of trying to get in the mind of a 16 or 17 year old kid, but in order to know the answer that’s what one has to do.

Based off what we know and have heard from Carr, this certainly feels like a big to-do over what seems like a whole lot of nothing.

Now let’s just hope for the sake of the future of Notre Dame at quarterback it stays that way.

Check out a few highlights of Carr and why Notre Dame fans are so excited about him below!

Top Notre Dame target to visit campus Sunday

The biggest remaining fish in the 2024 pond for Notre Dame. Will he end up in South Bend?

Notre Dame hasn’t had a whole lot of bigger defensive targets in recent years than 2024 defensive lineman [autotag]Justin Scott[/autotag], both figuratively and literally.  The five-star defensive tackle from St. Ignatius in Chicago checks in at 6-5, 310 pounds and requires a bulldozer to move.

Scott is one of the top recruits regardless of position in the ’24 class and has been in the news a good amount of late.  Earlier in the month, Scott announced his top-eight schools that included Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Alabama, Miami, and Colorado.  Shortly after he announced he’d be making his commitment to a college program on his birthday, January 31.

To top things off, two-time reigning national champion Georgia offered Scott a scholarship shortly after he announced his commitment date.  Will that matter in regards to where he winds up committing to?

Time will tell but Notre Dame has to still like their chances with the mountain of a young man.  We’re just nine days out from his commitment and according to news broken by Tom Loy of 247Sports on Saturday, Scott will be making a visit to Notre Dame on Sunday.

2024 quarterback commitment [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] has remained vocal on social media about getting Scott to South Bend.

With Scott’s commitment date not shifting following the Georgia offer I’m starting to let myself get excited about it happening, even if Loy already predicted it to earlier this week.

Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting offers: Quarterback

Reposting clearly just by coincidence this evening…

What does the future look like at quarterback for Notre Dame?

For the next few seasons, the belief and hope is it will be Tyler Buchner leading the way for the Irish. The longer-term answer isn’t as certain.

Notre Dame has had a fantastic start to its 2023 recruiting class; it ranks among the best in the nation as we approach the 2022 regular season.

That class is great and [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] awaits in next year’s class, but what about the 2023 recruiting cycle at quarterback for Notre Dame? After going all in on [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] and falling short (thanks a lot, Oregon), do the Irish end up with a quarterback this cycle or hold off?

Here are the quarterbacks Notre Dame has offered scholarships to this cycle, where they’ve committed, and who may remain for the Irish.

Notre Dame misses out on Dante Moore

What changed?

At one point there were rumors circulating that five-star quarterback [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] had given a soft commitment to Notre Dame, but an official verbal never came from the Detroit product.  On Friday, Notre Dame’s dreams of landing Moore came to an official end as the star committed to Oregon.

Shortly after he visited Notre Dame in March, Moore paid a visit to Eugene, Oregon on a trip that was said to have gone very well.  Moore now becomes the highest ranked quarterback recruit in the history of the Oregon football program.

[lawrence-related id=55745]

Although this news becoming official stings, Notre Dame knew they were out on Moore for a while now as things really faded after five-star quarterback [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag]’s commitment last month.

The question does remain however as what Notre Dame will do in recruiting the quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class.  Do they simply take a pass this year after all of the quarterbacks they’ve offered have now given commitments elsewhere?  Do they explore the transfer portal harder a year from now?

The news isn’t shocking to anyone today but it’s not fun regardless when you think you’re the leader for a five-star quarterback but end up empty handed.

In better news at least he also didn’t pick that program in his back yard, Michigan.

Crystal ball pick comes in for five-star quarterback Dante Moore

Thank goodness for C.J. Carr.

This spring it started to appear that it was only a matter of time before five-star quarterback [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] ultimately gave his verbal commitment to Notre Dame.  However, that commitment never came and if you go by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the chances for the Irish continue to drop by the day.

Now a crystal ball prediction from one of the best at making them is out and it’s more bad news for Notre Dame’s pursuit as Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports has given his crystal ball projection for Moore to end up at Oregon.

Related: Dante Moore tweets a duck-pic

How accurate is Wiltfong usually?  He’s batting .913 in this year’s class as he’s hit on 3,431 of 3,758 projections which means he’s probably onto something here, as Moore is also now scheduled to visit Eugene this weekend.

It’s not official yet and may not be for some time.  Heck, it may not end up being correct altogether (although I wouldn’t bet on that), but a talent like Moore seemingly being in the grasp of Notre Dame and him getting away is a painful miss as he was the biggest recruit in the 2023 class for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag].

Assuming Wiltfong ends up being correct we’ll left to wonder what Notre Dame does at quarterback this cycle as they taken some big swings but came up empty in each of them.

Do they scurry to add a quarterback that is yet to be offered?

This is where you hope [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] lives up to the hype the next few seasons and that [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] will be the real deal once he arrives on campus for the 2024 season.

Make no mistake about it – Notre Dame went all-in on Moore and appears to have lost.  They went all-in on Moore, seemingly held a significant lead compared to everyone else, and appears to have lost.

Imagine if this had happened under the previous regime.

Carr certainly softens this blow significantly but swinging big and missing like this is anything but fun, even if it has been trending that way for some time.

Watch: Notre Dame quarterback expectations for 2022

What are your expectations for Notre Dame at quarterback in 2022? @AlwaysIrishINC and @NickShepkowski discussed it at-length. Check it out!

With everything going on in the world of Notre Dame football recruiting and the baseball team earning a spot in the [autotag]College World Series[/autotag], time hasn’t allowed a lot of in-depth discussion about what the outlook for the actual 2022 season is.

In a season that sees a ton of talent return to Notre Dame’s roster there is no greater question entering the year than at the quarterback position.  [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] is a five-star prospect that will join the Irish in 2024 and Notre Dame remains a possibility for 2023 five-star [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag], but what about the 2022 season that sits dead ahead for everyone?

[autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] has been bitten by bad luck far too often in his football career.  As a high school sophomore he suffered a knee injury before having an epic junior year, only to see COVID wipe out his senior season in California.  Now Buchner slides into the starting quarterback spot after a year of playing in primarily run situations and his first start will just happen to be at Ohio State to open the year.

What are fair expectations for Buchner this fall and how much help does he have around him?  I recently discussed that with the Always Irish podcast which you can watch below.

On a scale of 1-10 how do you feel about the Notre Dame quarterback situation entering 2022?  Comment below!
