Former Gators DL Carlos Dunlap praises Florida’s DL coach hire

Former Florida defensive lineman Carlos Dunlap says the Gators made a great decision by hiring Greg Chatman as the new defensive line coach.

Florida officially announced the hiring of Gerald Chatman as the team’s new defensive line coach on Saturday, and a former Gator has spoken up in support of the move.

Former Gators defensive lineman and Super Bowl champion Carlos Dunlap played under Chatman in 2019-20 as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Dunlap spoke to UAA senior writer Scott Carter about the hire.

“Gator Nation, we got another one,” Dunlap said. “Coach ‘G’ Chatman is definitely one of the most influential coaches, I’d say, (that) impacted my career as an NFL player when he was an assistant coach.

“But as the defensive line coach at Florida now, I’m even more excited for him. If I was a young player hungry to learn, compete in SEC against the best of the best with a coach I know is committed to helping me be the best player and the best man, I’m headed back to the Swamp again.”

Chatman helped Dunlap stay productive in the NFL as a 10-year veteran, and now he’ll be working with some incredibly fresh talent.

Getting rid of Sean Spencer was a shocking move that led to several losses on the recruiting trail, but Florida seems to have found a capable replacement.

Week 11 picks: Who the experts are taking in Eagles vs. Chiefs

Philadelphia and Kansas City are just days away from a Monday night showdown and we’re looking at who the NFL experts are picking in Eagles vs. Chiefs

After a bye week that should allow both teams a renewed freshness, the Eagles and Chiefs are set for a semi-Super Bowl rematch at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

The two teams last met on Feb. 12 in Super Bowl LVII.

Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 in that matchup to earn their third Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. The Chiefs enter Monday’s matchup on top of the AFC with a 7-2 record after defeating the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in Germany on Nov. 5.

Kansas City is looking to lock up an eighth-straight AFC West title.

Philadelphia is 8-1 and on top of the NFC East after a 33-28 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.

With kickoff fast approaching, we’re looking at who the NFL experts are picking.

3 last-minute free agent pickups the Saints should target

Two preseason games and weeks of training camp gave us a better idea of what the Saints still need. 3 last-minute free agents they should target before the season starts:

We’ve got a better idea of which positions the New Orleans Saints should reinforce after two preseason games and a month of training camp practices, but time is running out with roster cuts looming a week away — and the start of the regular season sitting just beyond that.

And, as always in the NFL, it all starts in the trenches for the Saints. Their pass rush has been erratic throughout the summer and poor depth along the offensive line is a problem that isn’t going away. There are other areas of need, but those should be top priority. It’s possible that young guys can continue to develop and overcome those concerns, but the Saints have enough resources and high standards that shouldn’t let them feeling content about who they have in the building.

New Orleans has been proactive in bringing in veteran backups like linebacker Jaylon Smith, safety Johnathan Abram, running back Darell Williams, and wide receiver/returns specialist Lynn Bowden Jr. That same enterprising approach should extend to other positions.

The latest estimates from Over The Cap give the Saints $11.3 million to spend on fine-tuning their team, and none of these players would break the bank. With that in mind, here’s a quick list of veteran free agents who make a lot of sense for what the Saints still need to build this team:

9 best free agent pass rushers after Jadeveon Clowney joined Ravens

The Jaguars showed brief interest in Jadeveon Clowney, but now he’s off the market. Could anyone else catch the team’s eye?

The pass rushing market was already thin Friday morning, but got it a little thinner when Jadeveon Clowney decided to join the Baltimore Ravens.

Clowney, 30, previously visited the Jacksonville Jaguars, but left without a contract. The team’s interest in a free agent pass rusher made sense given the Jaguars finished 26th in the NFL in sacks last season and didn’t make many changes at the position in the offseason.

Given the brief interest in Clowney, it’d make sense if the Jaguars peeked at the rest of the market.

Here are the best edge rushers still available with three weeks left until the regular season begins:

11 remaining free-agent pass rushers the Panthers could still sign

If the Panthers venture into free agency for a pass rusher, here are 11 notable players they could scoop off the market:

If this summer’s pass-rushing competition doesn’t result in a clear partner for Pro Bowler Brian Burns, the Carolina Panthers may be venturing into free agency to pick a winner. And if they do, here are 11 notable edge defenders they could choose from:

Former Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap’s restaurant opens in Cincinnati area

Modern Bengals great Carlos Dunlap returns to the area.

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap is officially back in the Cincinnati area now that his restaurant, Honey Inhibited, has officially opened as of Monday.

The restaurant in Covington, Kentucky is his second one that has opened after he opened one in Miami as well.

Dunlap just won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he seems to still have a good relationship with his former Bengals teammates after beating them in the AFC Championship.

Dunlap said that Tee Higgins has already made it in to have a meal, and he hopes Joe Burrow and some other former teammates of his will make it out to eat.

In an interview with Mohammed Ahmad of cleveland.com, Dunlap said he was working on a deal to open his restaurant in the Cincinnati area four years ago while he was playing for the Bengals.

“Things changed with my number one business, so I ended up having to pivot and put that on hold,” Dunlap said. “But my aspirations have always been to bring this to the Cincinnati area.”

Los will be back in Cincinnati for non-football reasons soon.

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap won a Super Bowl ring last year in Kansas City and remains a free agent, but he’s now headed back to the Greater Cincinnati area for non-football reasons.

Dunlap plans to open his second restaurant location, Honey Uninhibited, right on the river near the Bengals’ stomping grounds, as captured by Forbes’ Jeff Fedotin:

Several Bengals players and staffers also plan to attend this Sunday’s tasting at his new brunch spot, Honey Uninhibited, in advance of its expected opening during the second week of July.

It’s located in Covington, Ky., which is part of Greater Cincinnati, where he played the first 11 years of his career.

“It’s right on the riverfront,” Dunlap Jr. said. “You can pretty much see the stadium from where the restaurant is.”

Also tucked in there? Dunlap says he and the Bengals organization have a good relationship these days.

That doesn’t mean the Bengals would ever consider linking back up with Dunlap in a football capacity, especially given how things ended and after drafting Myles Murphy in the first round this year.

But for fans, it will be cool to see current and former Bengals around Dunlap and even have a chance to go to his restaurant themselves, especially after how well-received his first location in Miami was.

Carlos Dunlap provides free agency update, says Chiefs haven’t ruled out his return

In a recent interview with Forbes, Carlos Dunlap revealed that he wants to keep playing and that the #Chiefs haven’t ruled out his return.

Former Kansas City Chiefs DE Carlos Dunlap doesn’t appear ready to call it a career.

Dunlap accomplished his three goals of reaching 100 career sacks, winning a playoff game and winning a Super Bowl just a season ago. Yet, the 34-year-old still believes there’s more for him left to accomplish in the NFL.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Dunlap spoke on his football-playing future and whether a return to the Chiefs remained a possibility. After getting a taste of postseason success in Kansas City during the 2022 NFL season, Dunlap is convinced that he can still help an NFL team seeking a Super Bowl title.

“I can help another team get one of their own or help the Chiefs again,” Dunlap told Forbes’ Jeff Fedotin. “The Chiefs haven’t ruled that out, but currently it’s a waiting game.”

Dunlap remains a free agent after signing a one-year deal with Kansas City last July — and he’s not in any hurry to sign a new contract. He knows that the right opportunity will come along, whether that opportunity is with the Chiefs or elsewhere.

“I’m a free agent and I feel great and I still love the game,” Dunlap told Fedotin. “I’m a realist.”

The waiting game is certainly real if he’s eyeing a return to Kansas City for a second season. The Chiefs currently have the least salary cap space in the NFL, making a deal for Dunlap a difficult move in the interim. Later in the offseason, however, things could prove different for both Dunlap and Kansas City.

“The Chiefs obviously have a special spot for me because they were the first team to help me win a playoff game and to win a Super Bowl,” Dunlap explained. “So that would be a great opportunity.”
