69 days until Browns season opener: 5 players to wear 69 in Cleveland

We are now just 69 days away!

The big countdown clock has broken into the 60s with only 69 more days until the Cleveland Browns play regular season football again. In total, the number 69 has been worn by 16 different players for a regular season game before 2023. Last year after being traded from New England Chase Winovich asked the fans on Twitter to vote for what number he would wear for the 2022 season.

Unfortunately for Winovich injuries hampered his only season in Cleveland after the team let him go in free agency. Let’s take a look at five former players who have worn the number 69 in franchise history.

Eagles DE Cameron Malveaux announces his retirement from the NFL

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Cameron Malveaux announces his retirement from the NFL

The Eagles have one less edge rusher on the roster after defensive end Cameron Malveaux announced that he was retiring from the NFL to chase new goals and ventures.

A free agent pass rusher, Malveaux played in 52 games at the University of Houston and finished his career with 81 tackles, 17 for loss, and 4 sacks.

Malveaux was elevated by the Eagles for each of the final four games this past season, including the playoffs. He played 66 snaps on defense in the regular season and another 15 in the playoffs, notching four total tackles.

Malveaux signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2017, and he’s spent time with the Cardinals, Chiefs, Washington, the 49ers, and Browns.

The Eagles announced five roster moves in advance of Sunday’s road postseason matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs made a series of roster moves ahead of Sunday’s home game against Philadelphia in the Wild Card Round of the 2021 NFC Playoffs, including activating inside linebacker Lavonte David and running back Giovani Bernard off injured reserve while releasing wide receiver Justin Watson and cornerback Rashard Robinson to make room on the roster.

Tampa Bay also elevated both tight end Codey McElroy and running back Kenjon Barner from the practice squad.

Star running back Leonard Fournette will miss the matchup with a lingering hamstring injury.

Eagles’ 53 man roster for Week 18 matchup vs. Cowboys with news and notes

#Philadelphia #Eagles’ 53 man roster for Week 18 matchup vs. #Dallas #Cowboys with news and notes

The Eagles are just hours from kicking off their season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, and the 53-man roster could look significantly different with 11 players currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list at the time of this post.

Jason Kelce will likely start to keep his consecutive games streak intact, while DeVonta Smith could see playing time since he’s less than 40-yards away from a franchise rookie record.

It’s unknown if Jalen Hurts or Gardner Minshew will start at quarterback, but here’s your current 53-man roster, that’ll be updated throughout the day.

Eagles announce roster moves

#Eagles place DE Ryan #Kerrigan on the Reserve/COVID-19 list; elevate DE Cameron Malveaux as a COVID-19 replacement

The Eagles announced 3 roster moves on Thursday, placing defensive end Ryan Kerrigan on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Kerrigan joins offensive linemen Le’Raven Clark, Landon Dickerson, and Andre Dillard on the list.

To take Kerrigan’s spot on the active roster, the Eagles elevated defensive end Cameron Malveaux from the practice squad.

Malveaux spent last season on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad, getting called up to the active roster for two games, including the game against the Eagles, and registering four tackles and a forced fumble.

Casey Tucker has also returned as well to offer depth to the offensive line.

Browns sign 14 players from the practice squad to reserve/futures contracts

All but one of the practice squad members from last week signed

The Browns coaching and management must have liked what they saw on the practice fields late in the year. On Monday, the Browns signed nearly all of the active practice squad roster from the week of the AFC divisional playoff round to reserve/futures contracts.

The 14 players

S Elijah Benton (Liberty)

WR Ja’Marcus Bradley (Louisiana-Lafayette)

TE Jordan Franks (Central Florida)

CB A.J. Green (Oklahoma State)

G Cordel Iwuagwu (Texas Christian)

QB Kyle Lauletta (Richmond)

DE Cameron Malveaux (Houston)

TE Kyle Markway (South Carolina)

K Matt McCrane (Kansas State)

LB Montrel Meander (Grambling State)

C Javon Patterson (Mississippi)

FB Johnny Stanton (UNLV)

T Alex Taylor (South Carolina State)

WR Derrick Willies (Texas Tech)

The only practice squad player from last week who did not sign with the team is CB Donovan Olumba, who was signed during last week.

Players signed to a reserve/future contract can be added to an NFL team’s roster when it expands from 53 to 90 players for the offseason on the first day of the NFL’s business year. That takes place on March 17. It ties them to the Browns through that period instead of them being street free agents.

Browns activate Jack Conklin and Cody Parkey, elevate 2 from practice squad

Conklin and Parkey tested negative several days in a row to get activated

The Browns were busy on Saturday making adjustments to the roster for Sunday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Cleveland activated two starters from the reserve/COVID-19 list and promoted two practice squad players to the active roster.

Right tackle Jack Conklin and kicker Cody Parkey each cleared protocols and were activated from the COVID-19 list. They were placed on the list during the week as close contacts to someone who tested positive. Conklin and Parkey had to test negative five days in a row to get activated, and both hit that benchmark on Saturday.

The Browns also elevated DE Cameron Malveaux and OL Michael Dunn from the practice squad. Malveaux and Dunn will fill the roster spots vacated by Myles Garrett and Chris Hubbard, who remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive in the last 10 days.
