4 things to know about new Jets OT Greg Senat

The Jets bolstered their offensive line depth on Monday, claiming Greg Senat off waivers from the Colts. Get to know more about Senat:

George Fant’s season-ending knee injury suffered against the Buccaneers prompted the Jets to add to their offensive line room on Monday.

New York claimed offensive tackle Greg Senat off waivers from the Colts. Senat has minimal regular-season experience but could suit up for Gang Green’s season finale against the Bills.

Here are four things to know about Senat.

Jets add new tackle with George Fant hurt, Mekhi Becton not returning

With George Fant banged up and Mekhi Becton’s season over, the Jets added some tackle depth on the offensive line.

With George Fant banged up and Mekhi Becton’s season over, the Jets added some tackle depth on the offensive line.

New York claimed Greg Senat from the Colts on Monday. Indianapolis cut the 27-year-old on Saturday. An Elmont, New York native, Senat played basketball and football at Wagner before the Ravens made him a sixth-round pick in 2018. Senat has played in 10 career games, all with the Cowboys last season.

Senat gives the Jets some insurance at tackle for the final week of the season after Fant suffered an unspecified knee injury against the Bucs on Sunday. The starting left tackle is seeking a second opinion, per Robert Saleh. The good news is that Fant avoided an ACL injury.

As for Becton, Saleh confirmed that the second-year tackle will not return for New York’s season finale, as expected. Becton has been out since dislocating his kneecap in Week 1, even though his initial return timetable was set at 4-8 weeks.

In other Jets injury news, Saleh said he hopes to have RB Michael Carter back from a concussion in time for Week 18. The Jets will know more about the statuses of Jamison Crowder, Elijah Moore and Bryce Huff on Wednesday. Daniel Brown’s season is likely over after the TE suffered an ankle injury Sunday.

DE Kyle Phillips was also placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Colts sign C Joey Hunt among roster moves

Colts signed C Joey Hunt, added OT Greg Senat to the active roster and signed D.J. Swearinger to the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts made several roster moves, including the singing of center Joey Hunt, the team announced Tuesday.

Hunt has plenty of experience with the Colts over the last two seasons so they bring in a familiar face to the offensive line—one that is dealing with the absence of the entire starting front.

The Colts also activated offensive tackle Greg Senat from the practice squad and signed safety D.J. Swearinger to the practice squad.

The Colts need the depth at offensive tackle with Eric Fisher dealing with several injuries and Braden Smith testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The safety room is also thin as Andrew Sendejo remains in the league’s concussion protocol until further notice and both Khari Willis and Jahleel Addae are on the COVID-19 list.

The roster, including starting quarterback Carson Wentz, is getting shuffled around amid a COVID-19 outbreak so expect moves to be made all week.

Colts sign OT Greg Senat, DT Antwaun Woods to practice squad

Colts added OT Greg Senat and DT Antwaun Woods to the practice squad and placed S Ibraheim Campbell on IR.

The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackle Greg Senat and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods to the practice squad and placed safety Ibrahiem Campbell on the injured reserve list, the team announced Tuesday.

The Colts worked out Senat on Sunday while enjoying the extra day off before the road matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Eric Fisher has struggled at left tackle while Braden Smith hasn’t played since Week 1.

Woods was released from the active roster on Sunday when the Colts elevated quarterback Brett Hundley, a move they had to make in order for Hundley to be eligible as the backup behind starter Carson Wentz.

Campbell was elevated from the practice squad for the Monday night game but suffered knee and ankle injuries during the loss. He will miss at least the next three games.

Former Browns OT Greg Senat has tryout with Colts

Former Browns OT Greg Senat has resurfaced with a workout for the Colts:

The Cleveland Browns once were thought to have significant depth on their offensive line during training camp. Following the reduction of the roster to the 53-man version and due to injuries, that depth has been significantly depleted.

Starting left tackle Jedrick Wills will miss the Week 5 matchup while the team’s primary backup on the offensive line, Chris Hubbard, could miss the rest of the season.

Blake Hance is likely to get the start at left tackle this week with rookie James Hudson III backing him up.

That has led some Browns fans to wonder about some of the players that were with the team during training camp. For example, Alex Taylor was signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad a few weeks ago but could be signed to any team’s active roster.

Greg Senat had not been heard from since departing Cleveland including late this week.

Senat was one of the only free agents added to the offensive side of the ball this offseason. He was given a chance to compete throughout camp but failed to make the final roster.

The Browns placed Senat on injured reserve prior to the start of the season due to a knee issue but then released him in the second week of September.

With injury concerns of their own on the offensive line, the Indianapolis Colts had Senat in for a workout late this week.

The former college basketball player has continued to intrigue teams with his athletic traits but has only played in 10 games, all for Dallas in 2021, since being drafted in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens.

Browns waive Greg Senat from I.R., hold tryouts for 5 free agents

The Browns waived OT Greg Senat off injured reserve and held official tryouts for five free agents

The Cleveland Browns were busy working on the bottom of the roster this week.

The team waived offensive tackle Greg Senat from the injured reserve list. Senat was placed on I.R. prior to the initial 53-man roster being established, ending his 2021 chances with Cleveland. He suffered a knee injury. Senat is now free to sign with another NFL team and play in 2021.

The Browns also held tryouts for five free agents.

  • DT Andrew Brown
  • TE Miller Forristal
  • DT Isaiah Mack
  • CB Bryan Mills
  • TE Dax Raymond

None of the auditions resulted in immediate signings with the team.

Senat comes back to Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns weren’t happy when they lost practice squad offensive tackle Greg Senat during the season. The Dallas Cowboys poached Senat before the Browns could protect him on the squad.

So it’s no surprise that the Browns quickly snatched up the intriguing youngster when the Cowboys let him hit free agency. Cleveland announced Senat re-signed with the team on Friday.

Terms of the deal are undisclosed beyond it being a one-year contract. Senat played just three snaps in Dallas in 10 games after being signed off the Browns practice squad.

Originally a sixth-round pick by the Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Wagner, Senat impressed the Browns in a training camp audition and has developmental upside to stick around as a reserve tackle.

Week 11 Inactives and Captains: Lawrence, Gregory good to go

The captains and inactive lists for Sunday’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings.

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t been what anyone would describe as the picture of health throughout the 2020 season. Still, time stops for no team and never has that been more true than now as they begin a brutal slate of three games in just 11 days. Here’s a depressing thought: this Sunday may be the healthiest the Cowboys will be for the rest of the season.

With kickoff against the Minnesota Vikings just an hour away, the official inactive lists are available for both teams. The good news for the Cowboys is both DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory will be available despite an illness keeping them out of practice for most of the week. Here’s the official list:

A who’s who of rookies are inactive for Dallas today, including the perennially benched Reggie Robinson, who has yet to suit up for a single snap all season. Defensive end Bradlee Anae is apparently incapable of beating out Dorance Armstrong for playing time will join him as will Ron’Dell Carter who was just brought back from the Indianapolis Colts.

For the Vikings, their most visible inactive player that will have an affect on the day’s outcome is rookie tackle Ezra Cleveland. He had been ruled out of action on Friday, so this doesn’t come as a surprise, but it’s worth noting that he hadn’t missed a snap since returning to the lineup in Week 6.

Their other inactives have played few snaps on the season. Here is the list in its entirety:

Center Joe Looney who remains the starting center in lieu of injured rookie Tyler Biadasz has been named captain for the week. Joining him is crafty veteran Sean Lee and running back and kick returner Tony Pollard.

Cowboys poach OT Greg Senat from Browns practice squad

Senat had been protected by the Browns every week but the Cowboys signed him in the unprotected window

The Cleveland Browns had protected offensive tackle Greg Senat every week with the newly created rules for the practice squad. But even the protected players are vulnerable in the day after a game to get signed to another team’s active roster, and that’s exactly what happened to Senat.

The promising young developmental tackle is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys. The team Cleveland beat on Sunday extracted some revenge by poaching Senat off the practice squad before the Browns could protect him this week. Senat is now on the Cowboys’ active 53-man roster.

Dallas made room for him by cutting veteran CB Brandon Carr.
