Ohio State wide receiver has change of heart, won’t transfer from program

More good news for the Buckeyes

Ohio State football has received some great news over the past few days, and that trend continued on Saturday morning.

Wide receiver [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] entered the transfer portal, but after considering his options, he felt like his best was to stay in Columbus and continue being a Buckeye.

It very much seemed like Rodgers was going to transfer to a program closer to his Florida home, but after taking a visit to the Florida Gators on Friday, he saw that the grass wasn’t greener on the other side. He has yet to make a big impact on the field, but getting him back helps depth for the future.

The 2024 season for Ohio State is setting up to be a big one, with many of the players who could have left ultimately ended up staying. You can now add Rodgers to that growing list of Buckeyes who want to make a run at the expanded College Football Playoff.

Ohio State sees former 4-star wide receiver enters the transfer portal

Another Buckeye heads to the portal

Although it seemed like many of the Ohio State football players that planned on entering the transfer portal had already done so, that isn’t the case.

The Buckeyes lost multiple players to the portal on New Year’s Eve, with former 4-star, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, wide receiver [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] as one of them. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 185-pounder saw the field, but didn’t record any stats in his lone season in Columbus.

This is the new way of college football, if a player believes they can play early and don’t, they’ll leave to find somewhere they can. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, the wide receiver room is one of their deepest, but losing talented players like Rodgers isn’t ideal.

We wish Bryson the best at finding his new football home and hope he finds what he is looking for.

Watch: Ohio State freshman wide receiver Bryson Rodgers putting in extra work

Rodgers is working hard at making an impact soon! #GoBucks

In order to crack the wide receiver rotation for the [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team, you have to put in the extra work along with being extremely talented.

Sometimes that means an early wake-up call on days where you don’t expect to see many of your teammates. That was the case for Buckeye freshman, [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag], who has yet to see the field but is working towards that goal.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 185-pound Florida native took to X, the website formerly known as Twitter, and shared a short clip of him arriving to the Woody Hayes Facility to get some extra reps in.

That kind of resolve will go a long way and hopefully will impress the coaches enough for them to give Rodgers some meaningful playing time. That might be the case as he has already earned his place in the Buckeye program by having his black stripe removed during fall camp.

Ohio State freshman receiver Bryson Rodgers sheds black stripe

Bryson Rodgers becomes the newest “official” member of Zone 6. #GoBucks

Black stripe alert! The Ohio State football team officially welcomed another member to the Brotherhood on Tuesday when freshman receiver Bryson Rodgers shed his black stripe.

Rodgers comes to Columbus via Florida. The Sunshine State has become a bit of a pipeline when it comes to Buckeye football. A four-star recruit out of Wiregrass Ranch High School in Wesley Chapel, Rodgers was only ranked as the No. 43 receiving prospect in the nation. But when Brian Hartline sees something he likes at the receiver position, you don’t question it.

Somewhat slight of frame but excellent hands have some reminding Rodgers of a young Chris Olave. That three-star prospect seemed to turn out okay.

Playing time will be hard to come by this season with a loaded receiving room, but if Rodgers will be patient and wait his turn, he could be another underrated star in the making.

Ranking Ohio State wide receivers by 247Sports composite recruiting rankings

Ranking Ohio State wide receivers by 247Sports composite recruiting ranking #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has 13 wide receivers on scholarship and appears super deep. Still, as any Buckeye fan knows, this unit took a massive hit last season with the injury to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but the youngsters stepped up in a big way.

It was a bit shocking to see Xavier Johnson return, not that he was an early-round lock for the NFL, but he will undoubtedly get a shot at the next level. There is also a ton of excitement surrounding the stud freshman arriving on campus.

We rank the scholarship wide receivers on the roster based on their 247Sports recruiting rankings. You might be surprised by some of these …

247Sports gives a report on Ohio State WR Noah Rogers performance at Under Armor All-American Bowl

The Buckeyes signed another very good wide receiver #GoBucks

The [autotag]Under Armor All-American Bowl[/autotag] was played Tuesday, and there wasn’t as much scoring as you would expect from a high school all-star game. The teams combined for 21 points, with one of the touchdowns coming from a pick-six.

That meant that [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] signee [autotag]Noah Rogers[/autotag] didn’t get many opportunities to shine, but 247Sports was on hand for the whole week. With so many impressive players, not everyone gets time during the game but an impression can still be made during practice.

Rogers did exactly that. Andrew Ivins reported he “has some of the tools needed to eventually emerge as a go-to option for quarterbacks on Saturdays.”

He is part of another impressive wide receiver recruiting haul for head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and wide receiver coach [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], which includes [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag], [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag].

If the report is correct, we should see Rogers performing at a high level for the Buckeyes sooner rather than later even if he didn’t shine during the game.

Signing Day Superlatives: Which Ohio State signees will have major impacts

This class is has a ton of talent #GoBucks

For most of the recruiting world, Christmas used to be in February. That all changed when the early signing period was introduced. It is much closer to the actual holiday, and on Wednesday recruits who have been committed to their respective schools can finally make it official.

For [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], it once again signed a top recruiting class, headlined by multiple players who could have gone anywhere in the country to play football.

There are plenty of impact players all over this class, and I took a crack at which ones will make what kind of impact during their Ohio State careers.

Five star Ohio State wide receiver commit will wait until February to sign

Not the best news for the Bucks

This was not the news we wanted to hear, as five-star wide receiver [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] has told 247Sports that he will likely wait until February to sign with a school. This decision by Inniss is two-fold, he wants to be coached by [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], who has tweeted he isn’t going anywhere, and [autotag]Deion Sanders[/autotag] moved to [autotag]Colorado[/autotag].

The Florida receiver told Andrew Ivins that he’s “going to wait until February to sign, just so I can let everything play out and make sure 100 percent where he (Hartline) will be.” Inniss did go and say that he could sign in the early period if Hartline is still in Columbus but there was another factor, Sanders.

The current Jackson State head coach is reportedly taking the open position at Colorado and has already been recruiting Inniss to join him. Coach Prime has told Inniss “that he wanted me to join him,” if he were to leave JSU. Inniss wants to play for a Power Five school so Sanders’ current position at Jackson State isn’t an option but the Buffs would be.

Now, Inniss did take to Twitter to calm Ohio State fans’ and coaches’ fears, but this is big-time college football recruiting, and things change often until there’s a signature on that piece of paper.

Ivins also notes that a few other schools are still actively recruiting Inniss, such as Miami and Alabama, but it doesn’t seem like either of those schools is really in contention for Inniss’ signature.

This is a situation to monitor, even if the Buckeyes are in a very good position with receivers in the 2023 class as [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], [autotag]Noah Rogers[/autotag], and [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] also in the fold. [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and Hartline have some work to do to keep Inniss in the class even though he did Tweet out earlier that he’s still locked in.

Ohio State Football: Quick recruiting recap from this past weekend

It looks like they had a great time

The Buckeyes weren’t just busy on the field this weekend, they are active on the recruiting trail as well. Even though The Game didn’t go Ohio State’s way, it didn’t mean that the weekend was a complete bust. Ryan Day and his staff were active with plenty of recruits who were in Columbus and some that weren’t. Check out some of the action from over the weekend below.
