Ohio State football trending to flip Florida defensive end commit

The spatula is getting warm.

Ohio State football hosted an extremely large group of prospects this past weekend for the Buckeyes’ blowout night victory against Michigan State.

Recruits across multiple classes attended the game, but North Carolina defensive lineman [autotag]Amaris Williams[/autotag] would fill a massive need for the Buckeyes’ 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 270-pounder has been committed to the Florida Gators since mid-June, but this visit may have helped change his mind.

Two crystal ball selections were logged on Tuesday, one each from Tom Loy and Bill Kurelic, for Williams to flip to Ohio State. He is the No. 15 defensive lineman and 100th overall recruit in the country on the 247Sports composite.

At the moment the Buckeyes have two defensive end commitments, Eddrick Houston and Eric Mensah in their 2024 recruiting class.

Ohio 2024 tight end has home state Buckeyes in top group

Keep him home! #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program loves to keep top talent staying home and as one of the most talent-rich high school football states in the country, it’s a good option for the program. Head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has been selective about which Ohioans he goes hard after due to the vast national reach the Buckeye program has.

One of those select instate players that has an OSU offer is 2024 tight end [autotag]Elias Rudolph[/autotag], who released a list of schools that he will be considering going forward. Ohio State made the cut along with Penn State, Michigan State, [autotag]Kentucky[/autotag], Tennessee, Michigan, and a few others.

With Cade Stover returning, the position is in very good hands for the 2023 season, but not much experience behind him. There is an opportunity for early playing time for Rudolph if he opts to play for Ohio State and that most likely is a big selling point for Day.

Which 2024 quarterbacks should be on Ohio State’s board after Dylan Raiola decommitment?

Back to square one with Buckeye quarterback recruiting #GoBucks

This wasn’t the news that Buckeye fans wanted to see. Five-star quarterback [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag], the No. 1 player in the 2024 class,  decommitted from the program on Saturday. The smoke began Friday when the Arizona star scrubbed his social media of all things Ohio State.

This hurts on multiple levels, but the silver lining is the 2024 class is more than a year away from its early signing period, so [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has plenty of time to find a replacement for Raiola. Yes, the Buckeyes will not be able to upgrade, but there are plenty of big-time quarterbacks that will consider the Buckeyes.

Since they held the commitment from Raiola, there weren’t many other offers out to quarterback in the class. Two of the four have already committed elsewhere. The third, [autotag]Jadyn Davis[/autotag], is trending to our rival, Michigan. Most likely Raiola will not return to the class, so it’s back to square one. Here are a few targets the Buckeyes should focus their efforts on.

Scouts view: Newest 2024 Ohio State commit, 5-Star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith

Another BOOM?!?!! You bet #GoBucks

Talk about a huge day in recruiting for the Buckeyes.

First, South Dakota quarterback [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag] commits to the 2023 class. Now, Florida five-star [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag] has joined the fold in the 2024 cycle.

[autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is off to an incredible start for the 2024 class. He has secured a commitment from not just the top overall player in the class, [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag], but also the second overall player and No. 1 wide receiver, Smith, according to the 247Sports composite.

The class has four commitments and is already viewed as one of the best collections of prospects in the country. It’s always fun to get to do a scouts view, but two in one day is even better. Here is what I saw when viewing Smith’s Hudl highlights from this past season.

First, you’d think a receiver with Smith’s size (6 feet, 3 inches, 185 pounds) doesn’t move well, but that is incorrect. He possesses top-end speed. If a corner doesn’t get a hand on him, he will run right by him. It’s a gear you don’t normally see from a player Smith’s size.

It doesn’t end there. His hands are incredibly strong, which allows him to make acrobatic catches all over the field. Jump balls? Smith has the leaping ability to “Moss” defensive backs. He has an elite catching radius and it will only get better working with wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

There is no doubt in my mind that Smith can come into Columbus right away and contribute. He’s that talented. I would not expect a redshirt from him if he stays healthy. By his sophomore year, a [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] type breakout could be in order. Day and receivers coach [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] should be beaming with the commitment from Smith.

Five star Ohio State wide receiver commit will wait until February to sign

Not the best news for the Bucks

This was not the news we wanted to hear, as five-star wide receiver [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] has told 247Sports that he will likely wait until February to sign with a school. This decision by Inniss is two-fold, he wants to be coached by [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], who has tweeted he isn’t going anywhere, and [autotag]Deion Sanders[/autotag] moved to [autotag]Colorado[/autotag].

The Florida receiver told Andrew Ivins that he’s “going to wait until February to sign, just so I can let everything play out and make sure 100 percent where he (Hartline) will be.” Inniss did go and say that he could sign in the early period if Hartline is still in Columbus but there was another factor, Sanders.

The current Jackson State head coach is reportedly taking the open position at Colorado and has already been recruiting Inniss to join him. Coach Prime has told Inniss “that he wanted me to join him,” if he were to leave JSU. Inniss wants to play for a Power Five school so Sanders’ current position at Jackson State isn’t an option but the Buffs would be.

Now, Inniss did take to Twitter to calm Ohio State fans’ and coaches’ fears, but this is big-time college football recruiting, and things change often until there’s a signature on that piece of paper.

Ivins also notes that a few other schools are still actively recruiting Inniss, such as Miami and Alabama, but it doesn’t seem like either of those schools is really in contention for Inniss’ signature.

This is a situation to monitor, even if the Buckeyes are in a very good position with receivers in the 2023 class as [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], [autotag]Noah Rogers[/autotag], and [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] also in the fold. [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and Hartline have some work to do to keep Inniss in the class even though he did Tweet out earlier that he’s still locked in.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has been spotted recruiting in Indiana

Bring him home coach!

As the 2023 cycle is coming to an “end” (it seems like it with how many players ultimately sign during the early period), the Buckeyes and [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] have their sights on a few prospects that they would love to have join the fold.

One of those is [autotag]Joshua Mickens[/autotag], who is fresh off his official visit to Columbus after decommitting to LSU just before the trip. Mickens preps at Lawrence Central and it looks like Day was at his school today checking up on him (He did retweet the picture). The defensive end has yet to announce when he will make his final choice but the Bucks are going after him hard in recent weeks.

If I had to guess, Mickens will eventually commit to OSU, adding to their current class of 19 players, which is rated as one of the best in the country.
