4-star WR Shazz Preston makes commitment

Four-star wide receiver recruit Shazz Preston has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. UGA was in the mix for Preston.

Four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Preston is a member of the class of 2022 and plays high school football for Saint James in Louisiana.

Preston is the No. 3 wide receiver prospect in his class, the No. 43 prospect overall and the fourth-best player in Louisiana.

On film, Preston displays good body control, is a solid route runner and frequently puts himself in a position to gain yards after the catch. Preston does a solid job of tracking the football and wins jump balls quite often for a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver.

The four-star prospect plays on a great high school team. St. James won a 3A state championship in 2019. In 2020, St. James advanced to the quarterfinals in 2020 before losing to Church Point.

Shazz Preston committed to Nick Saban and Alabama over Georgia, LSU, Southern and Texas. Alabama also landed a transfer from LSU, star cornerback Elias Ricks. Nick Saban continues to win on the recruiting trail.

Preston announced his commitment on ESPN:

Alabama Recruiting: Evaluating 2022 5-star EDGE commit Jeremiah Alexander

An in-depth evaluation of Alabama’s 2022 5-star EDGE commit Jeremiah Alexander!

When it rains, it pours. But when it’s Alabama football gaining yet another 5-star recruit, it can seem to other fanbases like more of a supercell thunderstorm, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake.

It’s true that five-star EDGE Jeremiah Alexander committed two months ago, but it’s never too late to provide a proper evaluation prior to his arrival on campus in the Spring or Fall semester of 2022.

Vitals

Height 6-2
Weight 235 pounds
Location Alabaster, AL
Class 2022
Rating 5-star
Rankings No. 11 Overall, No. 1 EDGE (247Sports Composite)

Evaluation

Alexander has an innate ability to diagnose offensive schemes. When reviewing the tape you’ll notice that he stays true to his reads, and covers his assigned gaps efficiently. Rarely will you see a mistake in his consequential first step. He uses his heavy hands to effectively fight off blockers to get in position to make plays. Developmentally he has improved on his pass rush year-after-year, with room to improve even further. Speed and power are not lost in Jeremiah’s game, he is fast off the snap, at an average of 0.64 seconds to cross the line of scrimmage after the snap, by my count. His build is already ideal for the college level at 235 pounds. Expect him to be in the rotation very early for the Crimson Tide.

Where he fits in Alabama’s defense

His current high school, Thompson, runs a defense not unlike the Alabama defense. The setup is a base 3-4 with two gap responsibility for the stand-up linebackers. Alexander has an ideal build and skill-set to be a SAM (or strong-side linebacker) in the Crimson Tide’s base package. At the high school level he has shown that he can cover a tight end in passing situations, push through blockers and disengage on command with his pass rush and fill his assigned gaps in the run game. These qualities are paramount to succeed in the defense he will participate in at Alabama.

Expectations and when he could start

In his first year on campus, it’s possible that he’ll be competing with Drew Sanders and Dallas Turner for a starting spot at SAM. I see him contributing via rotation immediately, however, I don’t expect him to start until he has at least a year under his belt. He has the potential to be an early-round draft pick, easily. All he will have to do is trust the process and buckle down. He needs to be ready and willing to learn and adapt.

This addition to the 2022 recruiting class should be exciting for all Tide fans. The potential in Jeremiah Alexander is immense, and he should not disappoint.

5-star OT Amarius Mims makes commitment to UGA football

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims has committed to the University of Georgia football program.

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims is one of the top players in the class of 2021. Now, Mims has committed to the University of Georgia. Matt Luke and Kirby Smart helped secure a commitment from the elite recruit.

Mims is six-foot-eight tall and weighs 315 pounds. He has an impressive size for an offensive tackle and has the frame to play in the NFL. He plays high school football at Bleckley County in Cochran, Georgia.

Georgia has now secured a commitment from the top tackle in the class of 2020 and 2021. Matt Luke and the University of Georgia would love to continue their offensive line recruiting dominance for years to come.

Mims chose UGA over Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, Tennessee, and Auburn. He’s expected to compete for playing time right away at Georgia.

Kirby Smart has rejuvenated Georgia’s offensive front. Georgia is physical in the trenches on both sides of the ball and that will continue for years to come.

Amarius Mims and high school offensive line recruits have to be impressed with UGA’s offensive line in recent years. Two Georgia Bulldog offensive linemen (Isaiah Wilson and Andrew Thomas) were picked in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Georgia football makes top-six for 2021 4-star WR

Georgia football made the top-six for 2021 4-star WR Chris Hilton

On Sunday, Chris Hilton, a 4-star wide receiver from Zachary, Louisiana, named his top six schools.

Georgia, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame and Texas A&M made the cut.

The 6-foot, 169 pound prospect is ranked as the No. 5 receiver in the 2021 class and the No. 51 ranked prospect overall. (via 247Sports)

Hilton told 247Sports:

“You could say whichever school I feel like I’m more comfortable at, can play at, and get my education is how I’ll get it down to one.”

Although the Bulldogs have good depth at the receiver position for at least the next two seasons, Kirby Smart knows that you can never have too many explosive playmakers in today’s game.

Hilton, who runs a 4.45 40 yard dash, would be great addition to a speedy Georgia offense and with 5-star quarterback Brock Vandagriff heading to Athens in 2021, the Bulldogs hope to get as many playmakers on the outside as possible.

“I like the coaching staff and the academics are really good,” Hilton told Dawg Post, speaking of Georgia.
