Georgia dominates Tennessee, moves to 10-0

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Tennessee Volunteers in a 41-17 road victory

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Tennessee Volunteers in a 41-17 victory at Rocky Top. Tennessee got off to a fast 7-0 start, but ultimately, Georgia overcame Tennessee’s strong first quarter and secured a comfortable 24-10 lead at halftime.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett was successful throwing the football more than usual (Bennett finished with a season-high 29 passing attempts) for UGA. Running back James Cook had his best game of the season. Cook scored three total touchdowns and accumulated 147 total yards. Cook may be Georgia’s top running back.

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell looked impressive. He finished with five receptions for 65 yards.

Georgia’s offensive line played well. Warren Ericson started at right guard, but Xavier Truss replaced early in the game. Ericson continued to play on special teams. Broderick Jones held up well on the edge. Veteran Jamaree Salyer is working his way back from an injury.

Defensively, Dan Lanning adjusted following a slow start. Georgia’s corners looked shaky in coverage at times. Kelee Ringo was beat deep a few times. Derion Kendrick and company allowed 200 receiving yards to Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman.

Kendrick did record an interception. Linebacker Channing Tindall finished with three sacks. Georgia held the Vols to just 55 rushing yards.

Georgia’s red zone defense looked solid. The Dawgs held up well in the second half before allowing another garbage time touchdown.

Kirby Smart and Georgia are 10-0. UGA finishes 8-0 in SEC play. Georgia faces Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech in their two remaining regular season games.

The defensive line battled a stomach bug entering the game. Robert Beal, Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, and Nolan Smith all went down with injuries throughout the game. Georgia’s depth at edge rusher is a concern, so Nolan Smith’s status is something to watch moving forward.

Georgia Bulldogs in first six for Milton wide receiver

The Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and more are in Milton WR Debron Gatling’s first six.

The Georgia Bulldogs offered a scholarship back in November to Debron Gatling, who plays wide receiver for Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia. Gatling is a member of the class of 2024, so he’s only a freshman in high school.

Despite his age, Gatling already has scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Minnesota, and Duke. He’s an in-state recruiting target to watch moving forward for the Bulldogs.

Gatling has decent size at 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds. He’s a good route runner and gains separation easily. On this play against McEachern High School, Gatling showed his ability to get separation on a post route that results in a touchdown:

It will be fun to see Gatling’s game develop. He obviously tons of potential, and he’s already been able to show off his abilities against solid competition in high school.

Debron Gatling shared his first six via his Twitter account:

Gatling will surely receive more scholarship offers over the years. He’s a guy to monitor for the class of 2024.

Twitter abuzz with Tennessee recruiting violation rumors

College football Twitter abuzz with Tennessee recruiting violation rumors after Volunteers fire Jeremy Pruitt & Phil Fulmer retires

College football Twitter is having a field day after the Tennessee Volunteers fired head coach Jeremy Pruitt for cause. Additionally, Tennessee athletic director Phillip Fulmer is likely going to step down and retire.

If some of the recruiting violation rumors are false, then it still doesn’t change the fact that Tennessee’s program has seen a level of decline on par with Florida State in recent seasons. The Volunteers did finish 8-5 in 2019 after a rocky start, but the program took a major step back in 2020 with a 3-7 season.

According to the Dan Patrick Show, Tennessee handed recruits money in McDonald’s bags during campus visits. This rumor gave Twitter some easy material to work with and of course college football fans came up with some funny reactions:

Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt denied the rumor via Twitter.

5-star OT Amarius Mims makes commitment to UGA football

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims has committed to the University of Georgia football program.

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims is one of the top players in the class of 2021. Now, Mims has committed to the University of Georgia. Matt Luke and Kirby Smart helped secure a commitment from the elite recruit.

Mims is six-foot-eight tall and weighs 315 pounds. He has an impressive size for an offensive tackle and has the frame to play in the NFL. He plays high school football at Bleckley County in Cochran, Georgia.

Georgia has now secured a commitment from the top tackle in the class of 2020 and 2021. Matt Luke and the University of Georgia would love to continue their offensive line recruiting dominance for years to come.

Mims chose UGA over Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, Tennessee, and Auburn. He’s expected to compete for playing time right away at Georgia.

Kirby Smart has rejuvenated Georgia’s offensive front. Georgia is physical in the trenches on both sides of the ball and that will continue for years to come.

Amarius Mims and high school offensive line recruits have to be impressed with UGA’s offensive line in recent years. Two Georgia Bulldog offensive linemen (Isaiah Wilson and Andrew Thomas) were picked in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
