Georgia misses out on elite safety; chooses Auburn

Georgia football lost a recruiting battle with Auburn for Eric Reed.

Georgia has a had another stellar Early Signing Day.

Most things have gone Georgia’s way, however, the Bulldogs did just lose a recruiting battle with Auburn and Gus Malzahn for 4-star safety Eric Reed.

Reed, the nation’s 175th overall player out of Shreveport, Louisiana, chose Auburn over Georgia and LSU.

The 6’1” 197 pound DB would have been a nice one to get, especially with Georgia losing J.R. Reed and possibly Richard LeCounte.

Luckily for Georgia, the Dawgs were able to pull off a big commitment from a different 4-star safety out of Louisiana, Major Burns, who signed today.

Report: Georgia tried to get 5-star commit to sign today; wants to visit Auburn first

Georgia football wanted 5-star OT to sign on Early Signing Day, but he wants to visit Auburn first.

According to a report from Chad Simmons of Rivals, one of Georgia’s top commits does not plan on signing in the Early Signing Period.

Broderick Jones, a 5-star offensive tackle who has been committed to Georgia since April of 2018, is the nation’s No. 19 overall player and 2nd ranked OT.

Out of Lithonia, Georgia, Jones is a 6-5, 275 pounder who possesses great length for the position.

According to Simmons, Georgia tried to get Jones to sign, sending him the papers needed on the first day of the early period, but Jones wants to take his time.

Simmons reports that Jones will visit both Auburn and Georgia in January.

Jones visited Auburn twice in the month of November.

Despite recent price increase, SECCG tickets still at three-year low

Georgia football SEC Championship tickets for the UGA vs LSU game are at a three-year low.

With Georgia and LSU ready to tee it up from the SEC Championship on Saturday, TicketIQ provided us with some insight into ticket prices for the big game.

Tickets saw a slight increase in price this week after what was a downward trend for the two previous weeks.

Despite the increase in price this week, this still remains the cheapest SEC Championship of the last three years.

The current average price is now $710, which is up 3% this week, and the get-in price is currently sitting at $246, a 9% increase this week).

Find SEC Championship Game tickets here.

And even with this being the cheapest SEC Championship in the last three seasons, it is still by far college football’s most expensive ticket of championship weekend.

Behind Georgia and LSU, the second most expensive average ticket this weekend is in the BIG10, where Ohio State will play Wisconsin.

Sad Alabama football fans tweet after dropping out of top-10 in CFP rankings

Sad Alabama football fans tweet after the Crimson Tide drop out of the top-10 in the CFP rankings.

After Alabama lost to Auburn on Saturday in the Iron Bowl, the Crimson Tide have fallen outside of the top-ten in the College Football Playoff rankings for the first time I can remember.

All November, my favorite part of the Tuesday night rankings reveal centered around angry Alabama fans voicing this displeasure of being ranked behind Georgia, which has sat at No. 4 since the initial reveal.

Now, the Tide are at No. 12, and their fans don’t really have an argument for being inside the top-ten, but that did not stop the fans from spazzing out on Twitter.

With no Alabama or Auburn, SEC Championship ticket prices at 3-year low

SEC Championship tickets for Georgia football vs LSU are at a three-year low.

This Saturday will mark the first time since 2011 that neither Alabama or Auburn has represented the SEC West in the conference championship.

That 2011 season featured LSU and Georgia meeting in Atlanta, same as this Saturday, with the Tigers beating the Bulldogs 42-10 (hopefully not same as this Saturday).

For this weekend, prices have been trending downward over the last two weeks, though it will still cost you a pretty penny to see your team play for the SEC title.

The current average price for Saturday’s game is $822 (down 36% over the last two weeks) and the get-in price is at $257 (down 27% over that same time frame).

Find SEC Championship Game tickets here.

Compared to the last eight SEC Championships, LSU vs Georgia is on the more expensive end when talking get-in prices. Georgia’s 2017 matchup with Auburn was by far the most expensive SEC Championship Game we have seen.

Look at the Georgia vs LSU get-in price for 2019 compared to the last time the two teams met in Atlanta in 2011. The price has more than doubled. Then again, in 2011, Georgia already had two losses on its record and did not have a shot at playing for a national title.

While SEC championship prices are at their lowest point since the opening of the new Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the cheapest national championship ticket is currently above $1,000, making it the 4th most expensive championship that ticket vendor TicketIQ has tracked.

If LSU is able to reach the national title game, prices could continue to move up, as TicketIQ detailed in this blog post.

Rivalry week: How UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices stack up to the rest of CFB

A look at UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices compared to the rest of college football this rivalry week. Plus looking the SEC Championship.

It’s the final weekend of the college football regular season. Wow…how sad is that?

Very sad is the answer to that question, but on the bright side we are in for a good day of college football.

Alabama vs Auburn and Ohio State vs Michigan headline what will be an exciting Saturday. Additionally, fans will also be able to enjoy a ranked matchup between Wisconsin and Minnesota plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

With the Dawgs playing LSU in the SEC Championship the following weekend, I’m looking forward to watching how the Tigers handle Texas A&M, which Georgia struggled against last weekend.

Speaking of the SEC Championship, currently, the get-in price for the conference title game is $341 and the average is now $995. The get-in price has only dropped just over 2% in the last week, but the average list price has gone down 23% over that same time frame. I’d be curious to see what would happen to those prices if LSU were to lose this weekend seeing as how it would then be a win-or-go-home battle for both teams.

As for this weekend, Georgia fans’ wallets will get a bit of a break if they want to see the Dawgs take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Currently, Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is the weekend’s ninth most expensive game, with a get-in price of $98. For Georgia fans, that’s not too bad; for Tech fans, this is the Yellow Jackets’s most expensive game of the season.

Minnesota at Wisconsin claims the title of most expensive ticket this weekend with tickets starting $257, followed by the Iron Bowl at $165.

Photographer injured during Georgia football game shares pic she took just before hit

UGA student photographer Chamberlain Smith was knocked unconscious during freak accident this Saturday. See the pic she got moments before.

It was a scary moment this Saturday in Auburn, Alabama as Georgia running back Brian Herrien was pushed out of bounds, running into UGA photographer Chamberlain Smith and causing her to go unconscious.

There was about a 10 minute delay on the game as the whole stadium sat in silence praying for Smith’s wellbeing.

Obviously the incident was a freak accident with no one at blame.

Herrien, the Dawgs senior running back, showed his support and how concerned he was for Smith.

Herrien truly did show compassion in not wanting to go back to his sideline.  He cared more about Smith than he did the game.  Some things are bigger than football.

Thankfully Smith was alright, being diagnosed with a mild concussion.  Not only did Smith get out of there okay, she got one hell of a picture of the man who took her out.

Nothing but love here in Athens and thankfully Smith is alright.

UGA photographer provides positive update after scary collision

Georgia football photographer Chamberlain Smith gave an update after the injury from the UGA vs Auburn game.

An eerie silence fell across Jordan-Hare Stadium late in the second quarter of UGA’s 21-14 triumph over Auburn. It came after Georgia running back Brian Herrien was shoved out of bounds, where he collided with UGA photography intern Chamberlain Smith, knocking her unconscious for a few moments.

Smith was ultimately taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital after the scary collision.

However, it appears that things are looking hopeful for Smith, as she posted an encouraging update about her health on Twitter.

Smith revealed that she is doing okay and left the hospital with nothing more than a concussion and some bruises.

It’s a hopeful update after an incident that appeared that it could have been much, much worse than it was. Dawg Nation wishes Chamberlain Smith a speedy and healthful recovery from her injuries.

Three overlooked Georgia at Auburn plays; what they mean moving forward

Georgia Bulldogs football won 21-14 over the Auburn Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium last night. D.J. Daniel made an awesome first half play.

The Georgia Bulldogs got a massive 21-14 road win over the Auburn Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium last night. The Bulldogs played excellent, but let Auburn creep back into the game, much like LSU did when they defeated Auburn 23-20 in Baton Rouge.

Auburn’s defense has had similar stifling effects on Oregon, LSU, Florida, and Georgia. Auburn may have the best defensive line in the country.

In order for Georgia to win, it took numerous clutch plays down the stretch. Lots of these plays standout, but I’ve picked three that have significance moving forward.

At first glance, the D.J. Daniel pass break up isn’t too special, but you must factor in several things. Daniel is lines up against Auburn’s fastest player in Anthony Schwartz, who gains separation with his speed. Daniel keeps sound technique and a never-out-of-position mindset. He doesn’t panic and get interference. Instead, he makes an excellent well-timed play on the football:

That’s not all. What’s impressive is Daniel’s pre-snap focus. Daniel is not fooled by the look to the sideline and quick-snap that Tua Tagovailoa and Alabama used to trick LSU’s touted freshman Derek Stingley for a touchdown last week:

It’s a copy-cat sport, so don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last Georgia sees of this play. UGA defensive backs must be prepared for this, so they don’t give up a cheap touchdown moving forward.

Another play I’d like to highlight was perhaps Auburn’s last true chance to remain in the game:

Gus Malzahn called an excellent play, but Auburn quarterback Bo Nix couldn’t connect with his open receiver. This is a play that LSU’s Joe Burrow hits with ease. Georgia’s pass defense must tighten up moving forward. One way UGA can limit an elite passer like Joe Burrow is with pressure. The Dawgs must be more disruptive in a potential SEC Championship against LSU. The now healthier Tyson Campbell will continue to battle with D.J. Daniel for the second corner spot.

Punter Jake Camarda played his best game of the season yesterday. Camarda launched eleven punts(!!!) for 558 yards at Auburn. He consistently pinned Auburn’s offense against their goal-line in the first half with punts like this one:

If Camarda can continue to play at a high-level, then it will put UGA’s defense in much more favorable positions and give Georgia elite specials teams play, if the Dawgs can get down the field and cover kicks. Georgia has to limit special teams penalties moving forward to dominate the field-position battle. Georgia’s defense will need all the help it can get against LSU’s high-flying offense.
