Report: Patriots hosted Georgia State OT Travis Glover on visit

The Patriots reportedly hosted Senior Bowl standout offensive tackle Travis Glover on a visit

The New England Patriots reportedly hosted Georgia State offensive tackle Travis Glover on a pre-draft visit on Friday, per KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.

Glover was a standout at the Senior Bowl, which the Patriots have traditionally leaned heavily on to evaluate and scout talent. They also have a tendency to draft those players, too, which means this meeting could potentially lead to something down the line.

Glover is projected as a Day 3 target, and the Patriots are in a position where they could potentially take more than one offensive tackle. They’ve basically hit the reboot button on most of their depth options, and former starter Trent Brown will now be protecting Joe Burrow’s blindside with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Glover is a behemoth of an offensive tackle, standing at 6-foot-6 and 323 pounds. He’d need to improve his footwork, but if developed properly, he could become a powerful force along the offensive front.

The Patriots obviously saw something they liked considering they’ve already invited him once for a private workout. Glover has draft steal potential in the later rounds, and the Patriots could be one of many teams hoping to cash in on him at the right moment.

Georgia State OT Travis Glover visiting Jaguars, per report

Travis Glover, a five-year starter at Georgia State, is reportedly set to visit the Jaguars ahead of the draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will host Georgia State offensive tackle Travis Glover on a pre-draft visit, according to Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda.

Glover was a five-year starter for the Panthers, earning experience at both left and right tackle during his time with the team. In 2023, he earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and helped clear the way for the conference’s leading rusher, Marcus Carroll.

While Glover wasn’t invited to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, he earned some positive reviews during his time at the 2024 Senior Bowl.

Just three Georgia State players have ever been picked in the NFL draft since the program was founded in 2010. GSU alumni Wil Lutz, Albert Wilson, and Chandon Sullivan all earned starting roles in the NFL after going undrafted, though.

The Jaguars are allowed to bring in 30 non-local prospects for pre-draft visits. It was previously reported that Western Michigan edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland is one of those 30 players, and Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network said that Oregon linebacker Jamal Hill is expected to be another.

Georgia State hires former UGA linebacker

Dell McGee and Georgia State hire former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker/staffer

The Georgia State Panthers and head coach Dell McGee have hired former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Juwan Taylor, per 247Sports. McGee previously was the running backs coach at Georgia under Kirby Smart from 2016-2024.

Juwan Taylor, who played college football for Georgia from 2015-2018, recorded 76 total tackles in his career with the Bulldogs. Taylor severed on Georgia’s staff as a player development assistant before being let go. Taylor will get another opportunity with Georgia State. The Panthers are hiring Taylor as a defensive graduate assistant.

Dell McGee and Georgia State have hired several former Georgia football coaches over the past few weeks. Georgia staffers including analyst Ryan Williams and Manrey Saint-Amour both followed Dell McGee to Georgia State. Saint-Amour will serve as Georgia State’s offensive line coach.

This offseason has featured a significant amount of coaching staff turnover for Kirby Smart and Georgia. The Dawgs lost defensive backs coach Fran Brown, who became the Syracuse head coach in December. Additionally, wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon took the same position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Report: Former Texas A&M wide receivers coach has found a new home at Georgia State

According to college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State.

A former Texas A&M wide receivers coach from the Jimbo Fisher era has found a new home.

According to 247Sports & CBS Sports national college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State per sources. Craig spent the last six seasons in College Station coaching the Aggies wideouts since 2018.

Craig reunites with new Panthers head coach Dell McGee, who he played with at Auburn in the 1990s. McGee is also expected to hire Tigers analyst Jeremiah Wilson as defensive backs coach, Zenitz reported.

Before arriving in Aggieland, Craig had previous coaching stints with LSU (2004 & 2016), Miami Dolphins (2005), Tuskegee (2006-07), South Alabama (2008-09), Florida State (2010-12 & 2017) and Auburn (2013-15).

The native of Mobile, Alabama played quarterback with the Tigers from 1994-97. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 1998, where he played for four seasons until 2001. He also had a brief offseason stint with the Washington Redskins in 2002.

Social media reacts: Georgia State hiring UGA football RB coach

Georgia football running backs coach Dell McGee will be missed. McGee has coached at Georgia since 2016

Georgia Bulldogs running backs coach Dell McGee is being hired as the head coach at Georgia State. McGee has coached running backs at Georgia since 2016 under head coach Kirby Smart.

McGee has abundant connections in Georgia. He is an elite recruiter and is primed to succeed at Georgia State. McGee coached players such as Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, James Cook and Zamir White during his time at Georgia. He won a pair of national championships with the Bulldogs.

Now, Georgia will have to find another running backs coach. Georgia is also looking for a wide receivers coach after Bryan McClendon headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.

McGee will have a special opportunity to coach at Georgia State. McGee’s son, Austin McGee, signed with Georgia State as a member of the class of 2024 and will be able to play under his father. Social media had nothing but good things to say about McGee after it was announced he was expected to accept the head coaching role at Georgia State.

Report: Georgia RBs coach Dell McGee to be Georgia State’s next HC

Dell McGee is on the move according to a Wednesday night report…

Georgia running backs coach and run-game coordinator, Dell McGee, is expected to be Georgia State’s next head coach, according to a report by Graham Coffey of The Players’ Lounge late on Wednesday night.

Multiple reports confirmed earlier on Wednesday that McGee was a “strong candidate” to replace Shawn Elliot, who left the Panthers in his seventh year to be tight ends coach at South Carolina. No official word has been announced by McGee’s camp, UGA or Georgia State as of late on Wednesday night.

If the report holds true, the Bulldogs would have two important assistant roles to fill. Wide receivers coach and pass-game coordinator Bryan McClendon left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.

This isn’t the best time for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs to be looking to replace key parts of their offensive staff. Georgia will begin spring practice on March 12, including five weeks of practices, leading up to the G-Day scrimmage game in Sanford Stadium on April 13.

McGee has coached four 1,000-yard rushers over his eight seasons in Athens: Nick Chubb in 2016-17, Sony Michel in 2017, D’Andre Swift in 2018-19 and Elijah Holyfield in 2018.

Before joining Kirby Smart in Athens, McGee coach Georgia Southern to a bowl win in 2016 as interim head coach. He coached in Statesboro from 2014-16 after one season as an analyst at Auburn (2013), his alma matter.

[lawrence-related id=98903]

Both Rivals and 247Sports named McGee as their National Recruiter of the Year in 2018. McGee’s efforts as a recruiter brought in future UGA stars like Swift, James Cook, Kendall Milton, Zamir White, Kenny McIntosh, Broderick Jones and Mykel Williams.

Georgia RBs coach Dell McGee ‘strong’ candidate for Georgia State job

UGA’s Dell McGee listed tabbed as ‘strong candidate’ for Georgia State HC job…

Recruiter, developer and motivator — Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee is perhaps the most well-rounded assistant coach on the Bulldogs’ staff. His consistency at UGA has garnered head-coaching interest from other programs in the past, most recently Georgia State.

McGee and former Georgia assistant and current Georgia Tech offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, are considered “strong candidates” for the in-state role, per Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. The Bulldogs are already dealing with a notable search of their own after wide receivers coach and pass-game coordinator, Bryan McClendon, accepted a role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.

The Panthers’ staff was seemingly set until seventh-year head coach Shawn Elliot left for the tight ends role at South Carolina. Georgia State was two days into practice when Elliot departed, leading to the school postponing spring practice all together.

Georgia State’s interest in McGee, who also has served as run-game coordinator since 2019, is warranted. The Bulldogs’ offense consistently leans on their run game.

I could go on, but you get the point — McGee is a large part of Georgia’s recruiting success.

If the Panthers ultimately offer McGee the role, he’ll have a decision to make that may put the Bulldogs in a bind with spring practice just three weeks away. Does he head to Atlanta and coach in the Sun Belt, or stay in Athens and wait for a Power Five opportunity?

Georgia State players hoisted then seemingly dropped the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl mascot while celebrating

Oh no! Poor Spuddy Buddy. They never saw it coming.

The Georgia State football team was so stoked about their Famous Idaho Potato Bowl win that some poor, unfortunate mascot got caught up in their celebration.

When you win a bowl game, you get hyped really quickly. The energy is flowing, and so is the excitement. Sometimes, that excitement can lead you to do things you wouldn’t usually (or intentionally) do, like accidentally dropping a whole person during a celebration.

Enter Spuddy Buddy, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl potato mascot.

According to SB Nation, the dancing spud is the mascot for the bowl game but also represents the Idaho Potato Commission, the organization that sponsors the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Spuddy Buddy’s job is to ensure fans know Idaho is the gold standard for potatoes. (Do with that information what you will.)

Georgia State walked away with a huge 45-22 victory over the Utah State Aggies. It was a massive sigh of relief for the Panthers, who lost five of their last six games to end the season.

As you might assume, they were pumped and scooped up Spuddy Buddy during their celebration. Unfortunately, they seemingly dropped whatever poor soul was in that mascot suit.

We are sending thoughts and condolences to Spuddy Buddy and a speedy recovery.

A former Clemson running back has announced his transfer destination.

Domonique Thomas took to X on Saturday to say that he is transferring to Georgia State after spending the last two seasons at Clemson.

A former walk-on, Thomas finished 2023 with 116 yards and one touchdown on 18 attempts. As a Tiger, he had 25 career carries for 147 yards and one score. He entered the portal on Dec. 4 and received offers from Georgia State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, UAB, Missouri, Troy and Richmond, among others.

With Thomas gone, the Tigers will continue to rely on Will Shipley and Phil Mafah in the Gator Bowl versus Kentucky on Dec. 29.

Georgia State vs ULM Game Preview

Why ULM Will Win

The passing game has been effective.

The wins might not be there, and the defense is having problems, but QB Chandler Rogers has been terrific hitting over 75% of his throws over the last five games.

Few teams not the Georgia State schedule over the last few weeks are able to throw, but here it comes. ULM will keep throwing and stay in the game by efficiently moving the chains, but …

Why Georgia State Will Win

ULM’s defense has problems, and it doesn’t make up for them with takeaways.

The Warhawks have a grand total of zero takeaways over the last five games, putting the spotting on each and every turnover. They gave it up four times in the win over Texas State last week, but they won’t be able to get away with that this time.

Georgia State’s offense has been rolling with four wins in the last five games, there’s a little bit of balance to go along with the great ground game, and …

What’s Going To Happen

This should be fun.

Georgia State is still in the mix for a bowl game, but it has to win two more games and the finish is at James Madison and at Marshall. It HAS to win this, and it will with the ground game taking over in the second half.

ULM is 3-1 at home and 0-5 on the road. It’ll be entertaining, but the D is about to get hit hard.
