NFL seasons can fall apart in a hurry and the Eagles are now facing a must-win scenario in Week 18 after a disastrous 20-10 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Returning home to Lincoln Financial Field for the first time in three weeks, quarterback Gardner Minshew was sacked six times on the afternoon, and went 18-32 passing for 274 yards, one touchdown, and one interception that was returned for a touchdown in the loss.

Minshew looked out of sorts at times and made several costly errors while trying to bring Philadelphia back from a 13-0 first-half deficit.

The scenario has been simple since the end of Week 15, with Philadelphia needing to win one of their final three games to win the NFC East and clinch home-field advantage in the NFC.

Without Jalen Hurts on Christmas Eve, the Eagles were defeated by the Cowboys 40-34, after an impressive performance from quarterback Dak Prescott.

On Sunday, the Eagles’ defense was solid, breaking the franchise record for sacks in a season, but they struggled to get off the field on third down, and couldn’t withstand one of the NFL’s top offenses being held to 10 total points.

Philadelphia will now host the New York Giants at home in the season finale, in a game in which the visitors could rest their starters after clinching a playoff berth with a 38-10 beatdown of the Colts.

Philadelphia sent the Saints two first-round picks in 2022 as well as a sixth-round selection in exchange for 2022 first- and third-round picks that became wide receiver A.J. Brown), a 2022 seventh-round pick, the 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick.

The Eagles (13-2) and the Saints are a little over 24 hours away from a critical Week 17 matchup that’ll have postseason and NFL draft implications for both teams.

New Orleans (6-9) needs a win to stay in the NFC South race, while Philadelphia can clinch the NFC East and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

With Jalen Hurts now ruled out and two other critical players nursing injuries as well, here are 3 causes for concern on Sunday.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts listed as doubtful for matchup vs. Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles are listing quarterback Jalen Hurts as doubtful for Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints, while Miles Sanders was a full participant

The Eagles initially had 12 players land on their injury list at the beginning of the week, but only two players have been ruled out (Lane Johnson, and Avonte Maddox), while Jalen Hurts has been listed as doubtful.

Hurts returned to practice on Thursday in a limited capacity and although he’s been pushing to play, it’ll likely be Gardner Minshew under center against New Orleans.

Philadelphia can win the division and clinch home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs with a win on Sunday.

Nick Sirianni noncommittal on Jalen Hurts status for Week 17; Talks Eagles options at right tackle

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says he’s still sorting things out in regard to Jalen Hurts status for Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints

The Eagles are a few hours away from starting their final practice of the week in preparation for Sunday’s matchup against the Saints.

All eyes will be on Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts, who could be ruled out on Friday, or listed as questionable and a game-time decision depending on how he feels and how cautious team brass is with his rehab.

New Orleans (6-9) comes into this game looking to remain in contention for the NFC South division title.

Jalen Hurts participated in Thursday’s practice ahead of Eagles matchup vs. Saints

Social media is abuzz with videos and pictures of Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Hurts participating in Thursday’s practice ahead of Philadelphia Eagles’ matchup vs. the New Orleans Saints

It was only practice, but with the Philadelphia Eagles badly needing to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC, Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Hurts returned to throwing on Thursday.

He was seen taking first-team reps early on, and it appears that he could miraculously start for the Eagles on Sunday in a must-win matchup.

With Lane Johnson, Avonte Maddox and several others dealing with injuries, clinching the division on Sunday would allow Philadelphia to rest some starters in the season finale against the Giants.
