Grant Nelson tabbed as a top 10 senior in college basketball

Grant Nelson set to make an impact for the Tide!

The 2023-24 college basketball season is nearly upon us and that means preseason lists are being released daily.

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide will look to build off last season’s historic campaign that not only led to an SEC Championship but also the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

A big piece to the puzzle for the Crimson Tide this season will be North Dakota State transfer, Grant Nelson who is expected to make a significant impact in the Alabama frontcourt.

On Tuesday, Nelson was named among the top true seniors in the country by college basketball analyst Andy Katz who ranked Nelson at No. 7.

Nelson and Alabama will get the 2023-24 campaign started on Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. from inside Coleman Coliseum against Morehead State.

Being No. 1 ‘doesn’t really mean anything’ says Nate Oats

Nate Oats isn’t concerning himself with Alabama’s recent bump to No. 1.

On Monday, the Alabama men’s basketball team made program history by being ranked No. 1 in the latest AP and USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Alabama has not been ranked No. 1 since the 2002-03 season.

Alabama was able to rise in the rankings following the Tide’s road win at Auburn and Purdue’s weekend loss at Northwestern.

After the rankings were released, Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] would join Birmingham’s The Next RoundĀ to give his thoughts on Alabama’s historic ranking.

Coach Oats made it very clear that the rankings were not that important at the moment and his team is focused on preparing for Tennessee and trying to win the SEC regular season championship.

Here’s a short clip of some of what coach Oats had to say earlier on Monday:

Brandon Miller named to John R. Wooden late season top 20 watch list

Brandon Miller could make Alabama men’s basketball history!

Believe it or not, there are only 10 more conference games remaining until the regular season concludes for [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball team.

Alabama has yet to lose a conference game this season and a large part of the team’s success is due to freshman sensation Brandon Miller.

On Monday afternoon it was announced that the forward has made the late season top 20 lists for the John R. Wooden award.

The Wooden is given annually to the nation’s top basketball player and Miller certainly has made a strong argument to bring home the prestigious honor.

An Alabama player has never won the award, but with a strong finish to the season, Miller could change that.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for continued coverage of Miller and the rest of the Alabama men’s basketball team!

Offensively, the Tide was carried by the trio of Mark Sears, Brandon Miller, and Noah Clowney.

Defensively, Alabama continues to force turnovers which helped lead to a total of 24 fast break points.

With the win, Alabama improves to 14-2 on the season and 4-0 in SEC play.

Where Alabama ranks in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index ahead of matchup with Kentucky

According to ESPN’s BPI, Alabama continues to be viewed as one of the top teams in the country.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball team currently sit with a 12-2 overall record and a 2-0 record within the SEC.

Up next for the Tide is a matchup with SEC powerhouse Kentucky. Fortunately, Oats and the Tide will be in the friendly confines of Coleman Coliseum for the contests with the Wildcats.

Before the Tide tips things off with Kentucky on Saturday, let’s look at where Alabama ranks in the latest update of ESPNā€™s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a ā€œmeasure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a teamā€™s W-L record is to achieve. Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, dayā€™s rest, and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections. Numbers update daily.ā€

Here is a breakdown of where Alabama ranks in the BPI.

Alabama’s Brandon Miller among the top prospects in latest 2023 NBA Big Board

Brandon Miller is on his way to being a top-ten pick in next year’s NBA draft. Here is where he sits in a recent 2023 NBA Big Board release by 247Sports.

The Alabama men’s basketball team is one of the most fun teams to watch in recent memories and a lot of that has to do with the play of the sensational freshman forward Brandon Miller.

Miller has taken college basketball by storm early on in the season and is clearly one of the best players in the country.

Through the first seven games of the season, Miller is averaging 19.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. The 6’9″ forward is shooting 40% from the field, 80% from the free throw line, and 48% from three.

Recently, 247Sports updated their 2023 NBA Big Board and the super-star for the Tide came in at No. 7.

247 would list scoring, defensive versatility, and shot-making as Miller’s key attributes.

Here is everything they had to say about Miller’s NBA prospects:

Brandon Miller has long been one of the most tantalizing prospects in this class. His size, athleticism, and skillset have been extremely enticing, but his motor and production didnā€™t always match the talent in high school.

However, Miller started piecing it together heading into his senior year and it is allĀ taking form forĀ him in Tuscaloosa.

Heā€™s an advanced and dynamic scorer who can rebound and defend multiple positions while improving his outside jumper. Miller has been spectacular so far this season but is also the oldest freshman in this draft class.

There is no denying the impact that Miller has had on [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide this season and it will be fun to see just how far the freshman can carry Alabama.

Alabama Morning Drive: FS1 analyst Emmanuel Acho has strong take on Tua and the Dolphins

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday morning!

Good morning, Tide fans and welcome to our Wednesday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone has had a good week so far as we have reached the halfway point.

This morning’s lead story is something that has been a bit of a hot topic for quite some time now, former Tide quarterback [autotag]Tua Tagovailoa[/autotag].

We all remember the incredible career that Tua had for Alabama before suffering what looked to be a career-threatening hip injury back in 2019. Since then, Tua has gone on to guide the Miami Dolphins to a 13-8 record while completing over 66% of his passes, but that has not been near enough to silence his doubters.

Emmanuel Acho of FS1 had a very strong and fact-filled opinion on Tua and what the Dolphins have (or have not) done to help build a strong team around the southpaw.

Check out Acho’s comments:

[autotag]Conor Talty[/autotag], a kicker from Chicago announced his commitment on Twitter. The class of 2024 addition came from a four-star athlete from Georiga, [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag]. Collins is expected to play tight end in Tuscaloosa.
