Alabama stomps Ole Miss 97-83 in Oxford

Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team dominated the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford to the tune of 97-83 on Wednesday night.

Alabama caught fire from the field led by Jaden Shackelford’s 30 points on eight of thirteen from three. As a team, the Tide connected on 14 of its 22 three-point attempts.

Jahvon Quinerly distributed the ball well for the Tide, finishing with eight assists. True freshman JD Davison came alive for 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 8 assists off the bench,

Another player worth noting is true freshman Jusaun Holt who played extremely well on the defensive end of the floor for the Tide.

The Rebels were led by senior guard Jarkel Joiner who finished with 33 points in the contest.

Hopefully, the Tide can carry over the hot shooting into Saturday against the Razorbacks who are coming off a big win over top-ranked Auburn.

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama catches fires leads Ole Miss 49-38

Alabama finds its shot in the first half as they lead the Ole Miss Rebels 49-38 at the half

Shooting has been an issue for the Tide during SEC play, but that was not the case in the first half against Ole Miss as Alabama leads the Rebels 49-38 at the half.

Jaden Shackleford exploded for 19 first-half points connecting on five of his eight three-point attempts. As a team, the Crimson Tide went eight of twelve from deep.

Ole Miss got off to a hot start, but true freshman Jusaun Holt entered the game and his defensive effort limited the Rebel offense and helped spark an Alabama run.

Alabama went on a 13-2 run in the final four minutes of the half to give the Tide an eleven-point lead.

Alabama’s Darius Miles a game-time decision for matchup with Ole Miss

Getting Darius Miles back in the lineup would certainly help the Tide

After serving a suspension on Saturday against Kentucky, it is being reported that Alabama forward Darius Miles will be a game-time decision for Alabama’s Wednesday night contest against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Miles was suspended on Saturday for a violation of team rules, but head coach Nate Oats has since stated that Miles has been practicing with the team over the last couple of days leaving the opportunity open for Miles to return to the hardwood.

Miles has seen minutes in 20 of the Tide’s 23 total contests and is averaging 6.7 ppg and 3.5 rpg for the season. At 6’6″, Miles has the ability to stretch the defense with his three-point shooting ability.

Jon Rothstein reported the news of Miles’ status earlier on Wednesday via Twitter.

Alabama and Ole Miss will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Kentucky

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Kentucky

Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team will look to get back in the win column tonight against the Kentucky Wildcats. Last Saturday, Alabama was able to take down one of the best teams in the country in Baylor, and tonight they will have to opportunity to take down another highly ranked team.

Kentucky sits with an 18-4 overall record and is 7-2 in SEC play which is good enough for second in the conference. Alabama is in desperate need of a win in conference play to avoid falling two games under .500.

Before tip-off, let’s take a look at my five bold predictions for tonight’s contest.

Alabama Athletics plans to move forward with Phase II of ‘The Crimson Standard’

The Crimson Standard continues

Earlier this afternoon it was announced that the University of Alabama Athletics Department would be moving forward with phase II of “The Crimson Standard”.

A new competition arena for basketball and gymnastics is the biggest project of phase II. The new arena will seat over 10,000 and is designed to bring the fans closer to the action on the court, something that Crimson Tide fans have been clamoring for for years now.

The new arena will also feature student seating that will mostly take up the lower bowl section and additionally new premium options in club, loge, courtside, and lower-level preferred seating.

Certainly, the success that Nate Oats has had in his short tenure in Tuscaloosa has helped pave the way for the new arena.

Included in phase II is a start of the art golf practice facility. The practice facility would include a first-of-its-kind, nine-hole golf course along with several other amenities.

With the help of athletics director Greg Byrne, the announcement was made via Twitter.

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Baylor

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Baylor

Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team have a massive matchup with the No. 4 Baylor Bears this afternoon inside of Coleman Coliseum. The outcome of this matchup could prove to be a pivotal moment for the Tide this season.

Alabama is coming off maybe its worse loss of the season to SEC bottom-feeder Georgia on Tuesday night and that makes today’s contest all the more important. If Alabama can find its way back into the win column today against the defending national champs, it could give the Tide the confidence boost they will need for the remainder of the conference slate.

While we await tip-off, let’s take a look at five bold predictions for today’s matchup with the Bears.

Alabama lands two signees on McDonald’s All-American roster

Alabama lands two signees on McDonald’s All-American roster

Nate Oats and his coaching staff have really outdone themselves on the recruiting trail, reeling in one of the top classes in the country for the class of 2022.

Just to show you how impressive the class really is, for the first time in school history, Alabama has landed two signees from the same class on the McDonald’s All-American game roster.

Five-stars Jaden Bradley and Brandon Miller have each been selected to compete in the prestigious contest. Here is the complete McDonald’s All-American game roster.

With this impressive recruiting haul, the expectations for Oats and the Tide will continue to grow.

Alabama’s next stretch of four games are critical to the Tide’s season

Alabama’s next stretch of four games are critical to the Tide’s season

It has been a slightly disappointing season for Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team. Last season saw the Tide win the SEC regular-season and conference titles, and then make a run to the sweet sixteen in the NCAA tournament. So the expectations for Oats and company were very high entering the season.

The Tide was able to find some early success this season, beating Gonzaga and Houston before entering conference play. The disappointing part of the season is that all six of the team’s losses have come to unranked opponents.

Currently, Alabama sits with a 13-6 record overall and 4-3 in conference play. Things don’t get any easier for the Tide as three of the next four opponents are ranked inside of the top fifteen. To say these next four games for Alabama are critical is a massive understatement.

To get the four-game stretch started,  Alabama will travel to Athens to take on the SEC bottom feeders in the Georgia Bulldogs who have yet to win a conference game. Then Alabama will head back home to Tuscaloosa to host No. 4 Baylor in the SEC/BIG12 Challenge. The Tide will then get back to conference play by traveling to Auburn to take on Bruce Pearl and the top-ranked Tigers. To finish off the brutal four-game stretch, Alabama will return home to tip-off against No. 12 Kentucky.

Obviously, in a perfect world, the Tide would go 4-0 during that gauntlet, but that isn’t being very realistic. The good news is that the stretch gets started with the worst team in the SEC and if Alabama gets a win there, confidence would begin to build as they would be on a three-game winning streak heading back home to take on Baylor.

Either way, it is a very tough stretch for Alabama right here in the middle of SEC play. I think Alabama will come out on the other side with a 2-2 record. I think Georgia is an obvious win, and I am not really sure where the other win comes from. I just think this team has too much talent and pride to not win one out for the next three.

There is no better time for Oats and his team to find its groove than right now. This four-game stretch could prove vital for this team when March comes around.
