Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 94 days

With 94 days remaining until Alabama kicks off the 2023 football season, let’s take a look at the guy who wore No. 94 for the Tide over the past few seasons, DJ Dale!

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2022 college football season in 99 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and his team take the field.

Today, with 94 days remaining, we will take a look at a player that wore the No. 94 over the past few seasons, defensive lineman [autotag]DJ Dale[/autotag].

Dale was a rock-solid member of the Alabama defensive line from 2019-22 and would be undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft. However, the Buffalo Bills quickly picked him up as an undrafted free agent.

True freshman defensive lineman Edric Hill currently wears No. 94 for the Crimson Tide.

2023 4-star DL Edric Hill officially signs with Alabama

Edric Hill joins the Crimson Tide as a four-star DL from Kansas City!

Alabama’s 2023 recruiting class has begun putting pen to paper and making their commitments actual. One of those commits, Edric Hill, officially signed with the Crimson Tide.

Hill, according to 247Sports, was ranked No. 31 when compared to other defensive linemen all across the nation in his recruiting class.

The native of Kansas City received offers from LSU, USC, Colorado, Arkansas and other prominent programs. However, he chose the Crimson Tide.

He had been verbally committed since June of 2022.

4-star Tigers defensive line target commits to Alabama

The Tigers missed out on Kansas City prospect Edric Hill.

You can’t win ’em all.

LSU has had a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail over the last couple of months, but it lost a battle on Monday when four-star Kansas City defensive lineman [autotag]Edric Hill[/autotag] announced his commitment to Alabama over Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and the Tigers.

Hill is the No. 183 overall player in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite, and he was initially slated to decide in September before moving his commitment date up to Monday. LSU got an official visit from Hill this summer, but it wasn’t able to close the deal as he’ll be joining its division rival in Tuscaloosa.

Any time you miss out on a top-200 player it’s disappointing, but Hill was considered a heavy Crimson Tide lean. The Tigers still boast a strong 2023 recruiting class that ranks sixth in the nation. If they can pick up a pledge from five-star in-state offensive tackle [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag], it will almost certainly boost them into the top five.

Alabama lands commitment from 2023 four-star DL Edric Hill

Alabama land a commitment from talented 2023 four-star DL Edric Hill on Monday.

Many experts and fellow Alabama fans presumed that 2023 defensive lineman Edric Hill would commit to the Crimson Tide on Monday. That is exactly what happened. The native of Kansas City, Missouri announced his commitment to Alabama via Twitter. He chose Alabama over other programs like Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, LSU and USC.

Hill is regarded as a four-star by 247Sports’ Rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-3, 290 pounds. Along with Hill, there are two other defensive linemen that have committed to Alabama: Yhonzae Pierre and Hunter Osborne.

When speaking with On3’s Hayes Fawcett, here is what he had to say about committing to the Crimson Tide:

“What stood out about Alabama was the relationship I had with the coaches and some of the players,” Hill said. “Also, coach Roach is a good guy to be around, and I just felt comfortable in Tuscaloosa. I just want to win some games and get better as a player and person.”

Alabama will likely lose several of its defensive linemen to the 2023 NFL draft. If that is the case, he could work his way into the rotation along the defensive line. When asked by Fawcett about Alabama’s plans for Hill, here is what he had to say:

“They are going to move me around at a 3 tech, 4i, 5, and I will be playing defensive end mostly,” Hill said. “It is a dream come true to play for a high level school, and the standard is always very high.”

It will be interesting to see how Alabama closes out the 2023 recruiting class along the defensive line. The Crimson Tide are also pursuing several other defensive linemen like Keon Keeley, James Smith, and Jordan Renaud.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to track Hill and his high school career as well as other Alabama football recruiting news.

Blue-chip LSU defensive line target moves up commitment date

Eldric Hill moved his commitment date from Sept. 24 to Aug. 22.

It seems a college decision from four-star 2023 defensive lineman [autotag]Edric Hill[/autotag] will come sooner than expected.

The North Kansas City prospect was originally set to announce his commitment on Sept. 24, but he told On3 that he will be moving his decision up more than a month and is now set to make the announcement next week on Aug. 22.

Hill will decide between a final six of LSU, Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC.

“I am ready,” Hill said. “I really had that itch to go ahead and commit, so I moved it up a month. There is a school that feels like home for me, I have found the place I want to be, and there is no reason for me to wait until next month.

“It came down to relationships and how comfortable this coaching staff made me and my family feel. Me and my parents have relationships with the coaches, they have a plan for me, and my feeling about this school is different. I know where I want to go.”

Hill took official visits this summer to Baton Rouge (June 10), Los Angeles (June 16) and Tuscaloosa (June 24). He also made an unofficial trip to Norman to visit the Sooners in June.

The Crimson Tide are considered the favorite for Hill, holding all three Crystal Ball predictions from 247Sports. ‘Bama also leads the way on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine by a wide margin at 96.7%.

It would be a fairly major surprise if coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] can pull the talented midwest lineman, who ranks as the No. 183 prospect in the nation on the 247Sports Composite, away from Alabama.

2023 target Edric Hill list USC in his top 6

USC hopes to go into the state of Missouri to land a high-impact defensive tackle.

Four-star defensive tackle and Missouri native Edric Hill announced his top six schools this week.

Edric Hill attends North Kansas City High School in Missouri, and he has a four-star rating from multiple recruiting sites. The senior listed Alabama, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC as his top six.

The Missouri native currently stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 290 pounds. He is projected to be an interior defensive lineman at the next level and would bolster the Trojans instantly if he commits in the near future. USC is a place where Hill could start on day one, given USC’s lack of depth on the D-line and Hill’s physical dominance.

Hill is the No. 7 player in his home state (Missouri) for the class of 2023, and he is the No. 27 defensive lineman in the nation. USC as of today only has 15 commitments for the 2023 class. Only six of them are defensive players, so adding Hill would be a home run.

Alabama listed as a finalist for 2023 4-star DL Edric Hill

Alabama was listed as a finalist for 2023 DL Edric Hill on Tuesday. He announced his top-six schools via his Twitter account.

Alabama has landed commitments from two defensive linemen in the 2023 recruiting class: Yhonzae Pierre and Hunter Osborne. Now, the Crimson Tide appears to be in the mix to land potentially four more defensive linemen to the class. One of those is four-star defensive lineman Edric Hill.

On Tuesday, Hill announced his top six schools via his Twitter account. According to On3’s RPM, Alabama is the favorite to land Hill at 89.6%. Defensive line coach Freddie Roach has been all in on recruits like Kelby Collins, Jordan Renaud, Keon Keeley and Edric Hill.

When Hill was asked by 247Sports’ Hank South about Coach Roach, here is what he had to say:

“He’s a great dude,” Hill said of Roach. “Great coach, great guy, fun to be around. And a good teacher, too, I can tell. Just from talking to players, he’s a fun dude. Really just a great guy.”

It appears that Alabama has a legitimate shot to land Hill. According to his Twitter, Hill will be “Committing soon”. If that is any indication to Alabama fans, it is that the Crimson Tide are likely the team to beat in his recruitment.

Alabama Morning Drive: FS1 analyst Emmanuel Acho has strong take on Tua and the Dolphins

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday morning!

Good morning, Tide fans and welcome to our Wednesday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone has had a good week so far as we have reached the halfway point.

This morning’s lead story is something that has been a bit of a hot topic for quite some time now, former Tide quarterback [autotag]Tua Tagovailoa[/autotag].

We all remember the incredible career that Tua had for Alabama before suffering what looked to be a career-threatening hip injury back in 2019. Since then, Tua has gone on to guide the Miami Dolphins to a 13-8 record while completing over 66% of his passes, but that has not been near enough to silence his doubters.

Emmanuel Acho of FS1 had a very strong and fact-filled opinion on Tua and what the Dolphins have (or have not) done to help build a strong team around the southpaw.

Check out Acho’s comments:

Like a lot of programs, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama have seen a flurry of commitments over the past few weeks. So, who could be next to commit to the Crimson Tide?

Now, it is important to remember that these are high school kids and their status with a certain school could change in the blink of an eye. However, below is a list of players who could potentially pull the trigger next and become a member of Alabama’s 2023 recruiting class.

Sit back and enjoy!

Wisconsin offers 2023 five-star DE Brenan Vernon, two other players in the class

The Wisconsin football program offered three players in the class of 2023 yesterday, the offers bringing their total in the class up to 11.

The Wisconsin football program offered three players in the class of 2023 yesterday, the offers bringing their total in the class up to 11.

Most focus now is on the 2022 recruiting cycle, with the Badgers only having quarterback Myles Burkett currently committed to their class.

But one of their offers from yesterday is noteworthy.

He is five-star DE Brenan Vernon, the No. 9 overall player in the class and Ohio’s No. 1-ranked recruit.

Including Brenan, here are the three class of 2023 offers the Badgers sent out yesterday:
