Every Georgia football player in the XFL

Here are the four former Georgia football players on XFL rosters.

The Xtream Football League, also known as the XFL, will begin in February, reviving the league for the first time since its lone season in 2001.

The league, which is owned by WWE majority owner Vince McMahon, will consist of eight teams with 52 players each.

Four Bulldogs will represent the University of Georgia this season across two teams, the New York Guardians and the Tampa Bay Vipers.

Former Georgia nose tackle Toby Johnson (6’4 350lb) will be playing for New York, after spending four years in the NFL playing for six teams. Last year, Johnson played for the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League.

Johnson came to Georgia in 2013 after playing at a high level at Hutchinson Community College.

On the Tamp Bay Vipers, Georgia will have three players – QB Aaron Murray, DB Corey Moore and LS Nick Moore. 

Murray returns home to Tampa to play for the Vipers. After breaking numerous SEC and Georgia records, Murray attempted to play in the NFL, where he did not find much success. He then went on to work for CBS as a broadcaster in addition to playing a single season for the Atlanta Legends, a member of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.

Corey Moore is a former Georgia safety who was undrafted in 2015 but went on to have a nice NFL career, playing for the Texans from 2015-17 and the Colts in 2019. He finished his NFL career with 72 tackles, 5 passes defended and an interception. I would not be surprised if he made a return to the NFL shortly.

Long snapper Nick Moore hails from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia. He came to Georgia in 2015 as a Mark Richt recruit after spending being drafted by the Red Sox and playing four years of minor league baseball. Moore, from 2015-18, played in 23 games for the Dawgs. He was given an opportunity by the New Orleans Saints but was unable to earn a roster spot.

Former Georgia Bulldog quarterback Aaron Murray is preparing for the debut of the XFL. Murray will be suiting up for his hometown team: the Tampa Bay Vipers. Murray played high school football at the famous HB Plant High School in Tampa.

Murray didn’t feel quite so at home when he saw a banana snake around the corner:

Murray, who most recently played for the Atlanta Legends in the failed Alliance of American Football League, will hope the XFL is more successful. The Vipers open on Sunday the 9th of February at MetLife Stadium against the New York Guardians. The game will air on Fox.

Ohio State vs. Clemson: Campus Lore breaks down the defenses in the Fiesta Bowl

Campus Lore analyst Aaron Murray takes a look at whether Ohio State or Clemson has the defensive edge in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl.

We are now inside of a week before the big College Football Playoff semifinal between No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. There’s so many storylines and angles on this matchup, but one that will play a critical role obviously is how each defense fares.

Both are a top five unit, and both have the ability to make game-changing momentum plays. It might be via the turnover, sack, tackle for loss, or a big third down stop. Either way, the team that can stymie the explosive offense on the other side has the best chance to dictate pace of the game and move on to New Orleans.

Former Georgia quarterback and Campus Lore analyst Aaron Murray took some time to break down both defenses, and if you’re an Ohio State fan, you might be happy to listen to what he has to say.

When asked about which defense he’s leaning towards, Murray first sounded hesitant.

“I really don’t know,” said Murray. “I mean you look at these defenses, and they’re both very talented. Obviously we know about Chase Young on the outside — he’s an absolute terror over there. And Clemson, they’re really good defensively. They lost a ton of guys to the NFL last year, but they just find a way to reload on that side of the football.”

But then Murray seemed to hone in on an advantage for the Buckeye defense.

“But when you look at both defenses, you look at both teams overall, who has Clemson faced,” Murray said. “I mean they played great defense and we can say this is an elite team on both sides, and an elite defense based on what we’ve seen, but what offense have they gone against where you can say ‘look, they stopped that elite offense, or they stopped that offense.’ There is no one on their schedule that probably really should have been close to beating them. And no one really was besides North Carolina in that one scary game early in the season.”

Then Murray shifted to Ohio State.

“Ohio State is tested,” said Murray. “They’ve played great defenses — they’ve played great offenses. They’ve played teams that run the ball like Wisconsin. They’ve played teams that want to throw the football. I mean, they have done it all. I think that gives Ohio State a little bit more confidence headed into this game both offensively and defensively.”

Well, we’re soon to find out when these two go at it in the desert night on Saturday.

We take a look back at Georgia’s top ten games of the decade. The Bulldogs football team played in some classic games in the 2010s

Picking the ten best Georgia games of the decade is no easy task. The Bulldogs had many triumphs and their fair share of heart-breakers this decade. Georgia fans know the ups and downs of college football perhaps better than any other fan base.

The Bulldogs went 99-36 over this decade. The decade is split between the Mark Richt and Kirby Smart era. Smart went 43-12, while Richt went 56-24. The 2010s started with UGA’s first losing season since 1996: the ugly 6-7 2010 season. It’s been much better since then. Now, the team enters every season with college football playoff expectations.

I will only say it once: these are the best Georgia games of the decade, NOT the best Georgia wins. Unfortunately, Georgia has been on the losing side of some of these incredible games. They’ve won some barn-burners as well. Here we go:

10. September 28th, 2013: Georgia 44, LSU 41

The ninth-ranked Bulldogs knocked off the sixth-ranked LSU Tigers in Athens. The shoot out featured: Todd Gurley, Keith Marshall, Aaron Murray, Chris Conley, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, and Jeremy Hill.

Aaron Murray led Georgia on a clutch drive with the Dawgs trailing and completed a touchdown to Justin Scott-Wesley with under two-minutes to play. Georgia’s defense stepped up and shut down LSU on their final drive of the game, including a clutch Leonard Floyd sack.

9. September 10th, 2011: South Carolina 45, Georgia 42

Jadeveon Clowney and the 12th-ranked Gamecocks knocked off the unranked Bulldogs 45-42 in Athens. The game featured a back and forth final quarter, where the teams combined to score 39 total points. South Carolina got the last laugh when Clowney strip sacked Aaron Murray to score a late touchdown.

Was this the peak version of South Carolina? They were quite stacked back then, when they had Clowney, Melvin Ingram, Alshon Jeffery, and Marcus Lattimore. I’d say they were better without Stephen Garcia at the helm. Connor Shaw was much more consistent than Garcia and didn’t turn the football over as much.

Aaron Murray provides insight into D’Andre Swift’s health ahead of SECCG

Georgia football great Aaron Murray discussed D’Andre Swift’s shoulder injury ahead of the UGA vs lsU SEC Championship.

D’Andre Swift has been dealing with a shoulder injury for part of the season and re-injured it after fumbling during Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech last weekend.

The injury is described as a shoulder contusion, which is something that only time will allow to fully heal.

But time is not on Swift’s side, so when he plays this weekend he will be doing so in some pain.

Aaron Murray, while on his show powered by CampusLore, provided some insight into Swift’s current health status, citing a “little birdie in the locker room.”

Georgia football greats Aaron Murray and Drew Butler talk UGA vs Ga Tech.

On Saturday at noon, Georgia and Georgia Tech will kickoff the 113th meeting of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

The Bulldogs are 28.5 point favorites over the Yellow Jackets and have won 15 of the last 18 meetings.

This season, there’s plenty of reasons to think No. 4 Georgia (10-1) will cover the spread against Tech (3-8).

Simply, Georgia’s defense is just way too good. It has shut down just about everybody its played, and Tech’s offense will be one of the worst the Dawgs have faced this season.

Georgia football great Aaron Murray says that UGA QB Jake Fromm’s experience could be the difference maker if the Bulldogs get to the CFP.

No moment is too big for Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, who has played in two SEC Championships, a Rose Bowl and a national title game all in just his first two years.

Now, as Fromm’s third season is coming to an end, he will have a chance to play in at least one more huge game, the conference championship vs LSU in two weeks.

If Fromm is able to guide the Dawgs to a win in Atlanta over the Tigers, then Georgia, assuming it does not drop a regular season game to Texas A&M or Tech, will punch its ticket to another College Football Playoff.

If that scenario plays out, there’s one former Bulldog who thinks Fromm’s experience will be a huge factor in the postseason.

Aaron Murray, the SEC’s all-time leading passer in just about every possible category, discussed Fromm’s experience compared to LSU’s Joe Burrow, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, the players who they predict will fill the other three spots.

“Justin Fields has never played in a championship game, never played in the playoffs,” Murray said on he and Drew Butler’s college football show hosted by CampusLore. “Joe Burrow, never played in a championship game, never played in the playoffs. Trevor Lawrence, two games. Played in the playoffs last year and then he won the national championship.

Jake Fromm has played in multiple SEC Championship Games, played in a national championship game, played in playoff games.

He has more experience than all these guys combined,”

Murray went on to talk about why that experiences is so important, pointing to the fact that’s just a different type of game.

“It’s a big stage, man. These playoff games are not a regular season game. It’s not a game at home, it’s not a rivalry game. Everyone in the country’s watching this.”

In Fromm’s two SEC Championship appearances, he is 41/61 for 484 yards and five touchdowns. In the College Football Playoff two seasons ago, Fromm went 36/61 for 442 yards and three touchdowns.
