Post-Super Bowl Mock Draft: The first two rounds, and a big trade up top

With the Super Bowl in the rear-view, it’s officially Draft Season! Here’s Doug Farrar’s two-round mock draft to get you rolling on that track.

Once the Super Bowl is in the rear-view in any season, the offseason lasts about two minutes, even and especially for the team that wins it. The Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed their victory parade on Wednesday, but you can bet that before and after that thing wrapped up, general manager Brett Veach and his staff (who, by the way, absolutely nailed the 2022 draft) were back in their offices, talking with their scouts and scouting directors about the prospects in the 2023 draft.

The scouting combine starts at the end of February, and if your thoughts have been about the postseason, you are catching up with your coaches on all the prospects who participated in the post-postseason stuff like the Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl.

Basically, draft season is upon us. In volumes, and it will be from now on.

So, it’s time to expand our own vision of how this all might go. This is Touchdown Wire’s first two-round mock of 2023, as we turn our own attentions to the draft as our primary force of content. And while we have the trade most are predicting (the Indianapolis Colts trading up with the Chicago Bears for the first overall pick), there’s a lot of new names in this particular mock. Now, it’s as much about the guys you’ve been scouting in the weeds as it is about the stars up top.

Here’s one version of how the first two rounds of the 2023 draft might go.

(Note: The Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick, which would have been the 21st overall selection, as punishment for tampering)

These 47 Eagles players are under contract for 2023 NFL season

With the NFL season a wrap after #SuperBowl 57, the focus will now turn towards a very important offseason and we’re looking at the 47 players the Eagles have under contract

The Philadelphia Eagles have wrapped their 2022 season after a 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, which means the focus now shifts to reshaping the roster during a busy NFL offseason.

The salary cap will exceed a record high of $220 million in 2023, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and where things currently stand, Philadelphia is expected to have roughly $8 million in cap space, via OverTheCap.

Right now, the Eagles have 47 players currently under contract for 2023. Here’s a look at them, ranked by cap hit:

Twitter reacts to Juju Smith-Schuster trolling James Bradberry, A.J. Brown responds

Chiefs wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster took the front runners route, trolling James Bradberry on social media and the NFL world has responded with the Eagles leading the charge

Juju Smith-Schuster had seven catches for 53 yards in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the Eagles, with his biggest contribution being the holding call that he drew on Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

Bradberry took the high road after the game, admitting that he grabbed Smith-Schuster’s jersey on the controversial penalty.

On Tuesday while others were celebrating Valentine’s Day, the Chiefs free agent wide receiver took a shot at Bradberry, trolling the hold.

Social media reacts to everything, and the Eagles along with a select few NFL players were not feeling the slight.

This all but assures the NFL Opening kickoff should be a rematch.

Eagles lose both coordinators to head coaching jobs

The Philadelphia Eagles made some NFL history on Tuesday, becoming the most recent team to lose both coordinators to head coaching jobs

The Eagles have been making history all season long and Tuesday the organization joined the 2013 Bengals as the most recent team to lose both coordinators to head coaching jobs.

The move comes two days after the Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 and Gannon’s defense gave up 24 second-half points in letting a 10-point halftime advantage slip away.

Steichen’s offense was explosive as usual and Jalen Hurts would have had a career-best performance if not for a costly fumble that was returned for a touchdown by the Chiefs’ Nick Bolton.

Cardinals officially hire Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon for head coaching job

Arizona Cardinals agree to deal with Philadelphia Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon for head coaching job

The Eagles are losing both coordinators as Jonathan Gannon has agreed to a deal to become the Arizona Cardinals new head coach.

Gannon had initially said that he would remain the Eagles’ defensive coordinator despite interviewing for the Texans’ head coaching positions before Houston hired DeMeco Ryans.

Head coach Nick Sirianni initially said he was prepared to lose both coordinators, but according to Albert Breer of The Monday Morning Quarterback, the Eagles had been making a full-court press to retain their defensive coordinator.

In replacing (Shane) Steichen, Nick Sirianni should have some answers. He could try and get (Brian) Johnson to turn down other opportunities and stay as coordinator, or turn to (Kevin) Patullo, and the fact that Sirianni himself is an old offensive coordinator helps backstop the whole thing. Having to replace Gannon would be more difficult, with the timing of his candidacy in Arizona an issue. Two guys who I think would’ve been high on the Eagles’ DC list, Vic Fangio and Jerod Mayo, have already agreed to deals elsewhere.

I have heard, for what it’s worth, that the Eagles have made an effort to keep Gannon in the fold, with the Arizona interest having been rumored for a while.

In his first season as defensive coordinator, Gannon’s Eagles’ defense surrendered 5.2 yards per play, tied for the seventh-fewest in the league. The Eagles were tied with the Bears and Panthers for the fifth-fewest takeaways in the NFL with 16.

This season, Gannon’s defense was among the top units in the NFL, finishing No. 2 overall in total defense, No. 1 against the pass, and 8th in the NFL in points allowed but fell apart in the second half of the Super Bowl loss.

The move comes two days after the Eagles’ defense gave up 24 second-half points in letting a 10-point halftime advantage slip away.

He’ll now take his talents back to Arizona.

Cardinals are finalizing deal with Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon for head coaching job

He’ll spend the next few days getting shredded by fans and local media after his defense failed to adjust to Andy Reid’s motion offense, allowing two touchdowns on breakdowns in the secondary.

Eagles reflect on 2022 season, Super Bowl loss during locker cleanout day

Here’s what the Philadelphia Eagles are saying about the 2022 NFL regular season and their #SuperBowl loss to the Chiefs during locker cleanout day

The Eagles started the process of cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday, officially ending the 2022-23 NFL season while beginning the process of preparing for free agency and the NFL draft.

Philadelphia suffered a heartbreaking 38-35 loss, inflicting wounds on themselves with fumbles, blown coverages, and a punt when they should have gone for it on fourth down.

Regular season MVP Patrick Mahomes took home the Super Bowl LVII MVP as well after he finished 21 of 27 for 182 yards with three touchdowns. Kansas City scored a touchdown on its first three drives of the second half after trailing at halftime 24-14.

The Birds gathered for one final locker room session and here’s how they reacted.

Report: Eagles working to keep Jonathan Gannon as defensive coordinator

Philadelphia just lost offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to the Colts and as Jonathan Gannon interviews with the Cardinals, the Eagles are working to keep their defensive coordinator

Jonathan Gannon never got on a plane back to Philadelphia after the Super Bowl LVII loss, remaining in the Glendale area to interview for the Cardinals head coaching job.

Gannon had initially said that he would remain the Eagles’ defensive coordinator despite interviewing for the Texans’ head coaching positions before Houston hired DeMeco Ryans.

Head coach Nick Sirianni initially said he was prepared to lose both coordinators, but now according to Albert Breer of The Monday Morning Quarterback, the Eagles have been making a full-court press to retain their defensive coordinator.
