Cincinnati Bengals updated 2023 NFL mock draft after Day 2

We mock Rounds 4-7 for the Bengals after Day 2.

Before Day 3 of the 2023 NFL draft begins, the Cincinnati Bengals boast five picks over the scheduled four rounds.

Cincinnati added one extra pick by trading down three spots with the Kansas City Chiefs near the end of the third round.

The Bengals project to attack needs such as tight end, running back and perhaps even punter in the final rounds, though in no particular order. There’s also the matter of a Jonah Williams trade that could still happen at any point, be it to help the team move around or just straight-up for another pick.

Here’s a look at a Day 3 mock draft using the mock simulator from Pro Football Focus.

2023 NFL Draft: Fourth-round mock shows great level of talent for the third day

The third day of the 2023 NFL draft will be filled with second- and third-round talent, and this fourth-round mock illustrates just that.

Things tens to change for NFL teams when the third day of the draft gets underway. Now, it’s generally less about filling the positions of need with impact players, and more about a round-robin of talent, where you’re trying to get the best players available, and you can deal with the fit after the fact. That’s not to say that fit isn’t a factor, but now, it’s about who can do what in general from an athletic and football standpoint.

The third day of the draft starts with the fourth round, of course, and in the fourth rounds of recent drafts, teams have come away with more than enough estimable talent for teams to know that it’s best to keep one’s eye on the ball.

Kirk Cousins, Geno Atkins, David Bakhtiari, Dak Prescott, K.J. Wright, De’Vondre Campbell, and Za’Darius Smith are among those players who could attest to that.

The 2023 draft in particular presents a group of third-day talent with second- and third-round grades, which makes it quite exciting. In this fourth-round mock draft, you will find players much better than that fixed designation — it’s just where they happened to fall in their draft class.

2023 NFL Draft: Day 2 mock draft roundup

The experts weigh in on who the Minnesota Vikings might take on day two of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The first round of the 2023 NFL draft is in the books and there is a ton of talent on day two available for teams to grab.

Earlier on Friday, I released a full mock draft for day two and there was really good talent coming out at the beginning of round three.

Who do the experts have the Vikings taking with their singular pick at 87th overall in round three?

Cincinnati Bengals updated 2023 NFL mock draft after first round

We mock Rounds 2-7 after the Bengals took Myles Murphy in the first round.

The Cincinnati Bengals enter Round 2 of the 2023 NFL draft with a handful of needs to address and plenty of great players left on the board.

Thursday night, the team addressed its big need at pass-rusher with Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy, bolstering the defensive line with immediate help right away and a potential long-term starter.

Now the Bengals head into Friday with needs at positions like tight end, cornerback and offensive line, though the front office going strictly best-player-available isn’t out of the question in the second round.

Ideally, the picks will marry value and need well like the selection of Murphy.

Here’s an updated look at a mock draft attempting to do just that, using the mock simulator from Pro Football Focus.

NFL Draft: Kirk Cousins elaborates on selection of Jordan Addison

Kirk Cousins was excited when he was asked about new wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

On Thursday night, the Minnesota Vikings added a new weapon to their offense by drafting USC wide receiver Jordan Addison. As the pick was being made, quarterback Kirk Cousins was also in the spotlight, appearing on Bleacher Report’s draft coverage.

When asked about the Vikings’ selection of Addison, Cousins shared his thoughts on what this addition could mean for their team’s success in the upcoming season.

I think that he is a natural wide receiver. I’ve played with some guys throughout the years who were great athletes; they could run well, they could jump well, but playing the position of wide receiver just didn’t come naturally to them. And you’ll always want that natural receiver over a great athlete – not to say he isn’t a great athlete. But a guy who can attack the football with great hands, adjust to the ball well, run great routes, that’s pretty exciting. To be able to get that kind of polish right away when he shows up for OTAs is a great advantage.

We targeted Justin a lot last year, and for good reason: He’s one of the elite receivers in football. But this should help take some pressure off of him, along with K.J. Osborn and T.J. Hockenson. The more that we can divert coverage away from Justin, that’s only going to help Jets with his ability to wreck the game.

Cousins appears thrilled with the opportunity to combine Addison with the rest of the Vikings’ arsenal. With the departure of Adam Thielen during the offseason it made wide receiver the top need heading into the draft. The team made certain that it was addressed, giving Cousins an abundance of weapons to pass to this upcoming season. The addition of Addison only adds to the team’s offensive firepower, and Cousins seems eager to take advantage of it.

2023 NFL Mock Draft: Second-round projections after the first round comes down

Now that the first round of the 2023 draft is in the books, here’s one version of how the second round might go.

Now that the first round of the 2023 NFL draft is in the books, there’s very little sleep for the league’s shot-callers. You go back and look at your board, move some guys around, talk to other shot-callers about possible trades, and get ready for the second day of the draft, which starts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

“We know where we’re positioned,” Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio, who did all kinds of wheeling and dealing to come away with C.J. Stroud with the second and third overall picks, said about Day 2. “So we have 65 and 73 and then the two fours, the fifth, the three sixth, the two seventh. We have a little bit of flexibility. Tonight we’ll go back and kind of see what’s left, understanding there’s probably going to be another 30-ish, 35 players that are probably selected before we pick.

“Could we move from 65 into the second round? That’s a possibility, but that’s going to be player driven. So I think we’ve identified players that we like. We also understand we’re going to lose players. That’s the reality of it. We’re going to lose players along the way. I think, in that general range, kind of how we have the players graded relative to their value and potentially what their role could be, we think there will be an opportunity to add some players to our team that we’ll be happy to have in the building.”

It will be some manner of this process for all of the NFL’s evaluators, and there’s all kinds of talent left on those boards. So, here’s how the second round of the draft might go, were we calling the shots for every NFL team.

Bengals get unexpected steal at 28th pick in new mock draft

A late-entry mock draft has an outlandish result for the Bengals.

The NFL draft begins today, so there’s one final chance to look at some Cincinnati Bengals mock drafts.

This mock done on the Bengals official website had Cincinnati taking OL Peter Skoronski out of Northwestern.

Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website says that this isn’t going to happen, and it is extremely unlikely given the talent that Skoronski has shown:

Skoronski looks for all the world to be one of those legit guys. So if not him (or any other first-rounder), the hope is that someone who is in their top 28 on their board is going to be there. And then, they hope the player matches up with a premium position to match the value of the pick.

In almost every mock draft, Skoronski is going in the early first, where he likely will end up when the draft comes around tonight.

But if he did fall to the Bengals at the 28th overall pick, it would be the obvious choice for Cincinnati.

Dane Brugler’s final mock has the Vikings going wide receiver

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has the Minnesota Vikings taking USC WR Jordan Addison in his final mock draft.

During the first week of free agency, the Minnesota Vikings released veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen. Now the team is tasked with finding a replacement for him. Fortunately, the upcoming NFL Draft presents an excellent opportunity to do so.

On Thursday, Dane Brugler from the Athletic unveiled his final mock draft which had the Vikings plan addressing this need and selecting USC WR Jordan Addison.

In this scenario, the Vikings are wiped out at cornerback with five already off the board. But I’ll bet they’d love to see Addison available here. He would add another weapon for Kirk Cousins and the passing game.

Pairing Justin Jefferson with Addison would be an excellent move for the Vikings. Although Addison may not be a deep threat, he has remarkable suddenness in his route running, making him a lethal weapon underneath. His game has nuances that make him a genuine threat to opposing defenses and can also make plays after the catch.

As the Vikings embark on this new era of football, it would be a smart choice to pair Jefferson with a talented receiver like Addison, who has the potential to be a WR1.
