Michigan football coach makes ESPN list of nation’s Top 10 recruiters

The Wolverines have one of the nation’s best at recruiting according to the Worldwide Leader.

Michigan football has an absolute stud on its hands.

No, we’re not talking about Giles Jackson or Aidan Hutchinson. Or even Ed Warinner, who’s transformed the offensive line from a veritable liability to strength on that side of the ball.

When it comes to recruiting, no one tops Michigan tight ends coach Sherrone Moore, at least according to ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren.

In VanHaaren’s top 10 college football recruiters in 2021 ($), Moore comes in sixth overall, behind only Alabama’s Charlie Huff, Ohio State’s Kerry Coombs, Alabama’s Jeff Banks, Ohio State’s Tony Alford and Florida’s Brian Johnson.

6. Sherrone Moore
Michigan tight ends coach
Top commit: QB J.J. McCarthy

Moore is another young coach who is rising up the ranks quickly, especially with how well he recruits. He has been one of Michigan’s best recruiters the past few classes and is keeping that up for the Wolverines in this 2021 cycle.

Moore played a big part in landing McCarthy, who is the No. 2-ranked dual-threat quarterback, No. 23 overall. McCarthy has a chance to help build consistency at the position for Michigan, something the program has lacked in recent years. Moore also helped land ESPN 300 offensive linemen Giovanni El-Hadi and Raheem Anderson II as well as a few three-star recruits, including tight end Louis Hansen out of Massachusetts.

But it isn’t just this year that Moore has been solid. According to 247Sports’ recruiter rankings, Moore was No. 21 nationally in 2020 and No. 43 in 2019 — though we believe he should be higher as the primary recruiter of five-star Daxton Hill that year.

As far as all-time commits, Moore has brought in Hill, McCarthy, El-Hadi, WR A.J. Henning and DT Mazi Smith.

Midweek Recruiting Update: Johnson offer, latest on Colzie, and more

A look at the latest recruiting news for Notre Dame Football.

It’s safe to say that it’s been fairly quiet on the recruiting trail for the Irish. The coaching staff changed that last night, as they offered Northwestern commit Theran Johnson.

The instate cornerback has been committed to the ‘Cats since May 3 of this year, Johnson is a very solid prospect. He stands six-feet tall and weights 170-pounds. The offer should catch Johnsons attention as aside from Northwestern, every other one of his offers are from non-Power Five schools.

I love this offer, Johnson is a player that might take some time to develop, but getting some of the better talent in Indiana to play for the Irish is a positive development. Almost all of the top 25 players in the state are heading off to a Power Five team, the Irish only have a commit from Blake Fisher. Yes, he’s a big one, literally and figuratively, the top overall player in the state.

Looking ahead at what’s to come for the Irish, the potential for Georgia wide receiver Deion Colzie to rejoin the class is looking better and better as we inch towards his commitment date on the 28th of this month.

Tom Loy, of Irish Illustrated, changed his crystal ball pick to the Irish. That gives me a ton of confidence that as of right now, Colzie is trending to rejoining Lorenzo Styles Jr. as the wide receivers in the 2021 class.

Right now the class consists of nine players on offense: quarterback Tyler Buchner, running back Logan Diggs, Styles Jr., Fisher, offensive tackle Joe Alt, guard Rocco Spindler, center Pat Coogan and tight end’s Mitchell Evans and Cane Berrong.

The defensive commits are a group of nine as well: defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio, defensive ends David Abiara and Jason Onye, linebackers Prince Collie and Will Schweitzer, and defensive backs Philip Riley, Ryan Barnes, Chance Tucker and Justin Walters.

The group of 18 players ranks 12th at ESPN, 13th at 247Sports and 11th at Rivals. Brian Kelly has a solid group of three players committed in the 2022 class: offensive tackle Joey Tanona, tight end Jack Nickel and safety Nolan Ziegler.

It has been a bit slow, but with Colzie’s timeline to recommit set and spatula being brought out to flip Johnson, there could be some positive movement for the Irish. Stay tuned to Fighting Irish Wire for the latest in Notre Dame Football recruiting.

Georgia football offers middle school DT Elijah Griffin

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a football scholarship to talented recruit Elijah Griffin

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a football scholarship to talented recruit Elijah Griffin. Griffin is a member of the class of 2025, so he’s only an eighth grader.

Griffin already has impressive size and strength for an eighth grader. He’s 6-foot-5 and weights 260 pounds.

Griffin currently plays football for Savannah Christian Preparatory School. He’s only 13 years old right now. Griffin should have a bright future ahead.

Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia aren’t afraid to offer young players very early in their football careers. Griffin has size and speed that aren’t fair at the middle school level. Griffin has some dominant tape on Hudl.

Griffin will continue to grow and should become a top recruit in his class. It is pretty rare for UGA to offer any player a scholarship this early. We’ll keep an eye on Griffin as he adjusts to the high school level in 2021.

Elijah Griffin announced his scholarship offer via his Twitter account. Griffin states that it is his first college offer.

4-star DE Elijah Jeudy decommits from Georgia football

The Georgia Bulldogs have lost a commitment from defensive end Elijah Jeudy, a four-star member of the class of 2021.

The Georgia Bulldogs have lost a commitment in the class of 2021. Four-star defensive end Elijah Jeudy has decided to decommit from the University of Georgia. Jeudy originally committed to UGA on his birthday.

He plays football for Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was joined D’Andre Swift and Mark Webb as the latest Georgia players from Philly. Jeudy chose UGA over Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oregon and LSU back in the spring. Those will be among the teams competing to land Jeudy now that he has made his decommitment.

Elijah Jeudy announced his decision to decommit from the University of Georgia via his Twitter account:

Jeudy did give fans a date to pay attention to in the future. He plans to announce his commitment on signing day. It sounds like Jeudy is still considering the Georgia Bulldogs and we will update fans whenever he decides to make his final commitment.

UGA football recruiting: hometown WR Deion Colzie sets commitment date

The Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are vying for a commitment from 4-star Athens, Georgia wide receiver Deion Colzie.

Wide receiver Deion Colzie decommitted from Notre Dame back in March and reopened his recruitment. Colzie is a member of the talented class of 2021.

Colzie plays for Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, and is the best hometown prospect for the Georgia Bulldogs in some time. Colzie is rated as a four-star recruit.

Per 247Sports, Georgia is a slight crystal ball favorite to land Colzie. Three of the six favor of the Bulldogs on Colzie’s 247Sports profile page. Notre Dame has the other predictions, including a few recent projections this Sept. Will Colzie re-commit to the Fighting Irish or flip to his hometown team, the Georgia Bulldogs?

Colzie ranks as the nation’s No. 84 overall prospect and as the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2021 class.

The Athens recruit released his top 10 via Twitter several months ago. He put Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Virginia, Florida and Alabama in his top 10.

Colzie will be picking among these schools when he makes his commitment on Sept. 28. He’s a UGA football recruiting target to watch.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will hope to keep the hometown kid at home. UGA currently has two commitments from wide receivers in the class of 2021: Adonai Mitchell and Jackson Meeks.

Michigan State football updated 247Sports 2021 recruiting rankings

Michigan State football has updated recruiting rankings for the 2021 football recruiting class according to 247Sports rankings.

[jwplayer 7HOYimhW]

Mel Tucker and the Michigan State football staff are dealing with some inclement conditions when it comes to recruiting the 2021 class. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic has really hurt the ability to recruit in person. Nonetheless, the Spartans have pulled in two impressive recruits this past weekend: three-star safety Jah’Von Grigsby and four-star running back Audric Estime.

The Spartans 2021 football class now ranks No. 54 in the nation according to 247Sports updated recruiting rankings. Also, MSU’s 2021 football recruiting class is the 12th-ranked class in the Big Ten.

Again, Tucker has brought in some solid 2021 recruits despite being hired late while facing a pandemic. I can’t wait to see what he does with even more time at his disposal.

Tennessee target Conner Harrell to be featured on ESPNU

Tennessee target Conner Harrell to be featured on ESPNU.

2022 quarterback Conner Harrell from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama received his first offer following Friday’s win over Spain Park.

The offer came from Tennessee.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Harrell threw for 410 yards and three touchdowns, as well as scoring two rushing touchdowns in Friday’s contest.

Thompson is now set to take on another Birmingham area team in Hewitt-Trussville Friday.

The showdown featuring Harrell will be televised by ESPNU and kick off is slated for 7:30 p.m. CST.

Tennessee ‘has done their research’ on 2022 quarterback Conner Harrell

Thompson head coach Mark Freeman recently discussed Harrell being offered by Tennessee.

“I have been friends with a lot of those guys at Tennessee a long time, and I just think it’s important Conner remembers Tennessee offered him first as far as SEC schools go because he will have a bunch of offers,” Freeman told Vols Wire. “He is a great person, comes from a great family and I think he is a can’t miss person.

“It’s his his first big offer and somebody up there has done their research. That says a lot about Tennessee, too, that they are doing their work on him. They can see what type of player he will be.”

Tennessee target Conner Harrell totals 468 yards, five touchdowns against Spain Park

The Thompson High School product has been putting up big numbers, and is starting to hear from SEC programs.

Tennessee target Conner Harrell, a 2022 dual-threat quarterback from Thomspon High School in Alabaster, Alabama, totaled 468 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-35 victory over Spain Park Friday.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Harrell threw for 410 yards and three touchdowns, as well as scoring two rushing touchdowns.

Following the win over Spain Park, Tennessee became the first school to extend a scholarship offer to Harrell.

He does not yet hold a star rating and only has one offer, but Harrell’s recruiting profile could take a major jump if he continues to contribute significantly to Thompson’s success this season. Thompson is the same program that produced former 5-star quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa that transferred from Alabama to Maryland in the offseason.
