Every early enrollee for Michigan State football heading into spring ball

Who is early enrolling at MSU? Find out here:

Spring ball is vastly approaching East Lansing. The importance of spring football is significant, as it will lay the groundwork for the program heading into the summer as well as training camp.

Another key piece of spring ball is getting every new player acclimated to their new school. The importance of this has been amplified by the transfer portal and the immediate impact transfers can make on a program.

Also, if true freshmen want to get on the field, early enrolling and playing spring ball is a major step towards achieving that goal.

Let’s take a look at the 14 players, transfers and freshmen, that are early enrolling at MSU:

TE Jack Nickel is first commit to ink his NLI to Michigan State football

TE Jack Nickel has is the first to sign an NLI to Michigan State and has officially kicked off the early signing period!

Michigan State is the first recruit to ink his national letter of intent. MSU tapping into the state of Georgia is a common theme in this recruiting class and Jack Nickel is leading the charge. Nickel made it official, signing with Michigan State.

Nickel was a commit to Notre Dame at one time, but backed off of it before the summertime. The Spartans then beat out Virginia Tech and Cal to earn his commitment.

Player Profile

Position: Tight End

Height/Weight: 6’4″/235 pounds

Hometown: Alpharetta, Georgia

High School: Milton High School

247Sports Composite ranking: 3-Star, No. 524 nationally

Analysis: The door is open for Nickel to make an impact immediately at Michigan State. Both Connor Heyward and Tyler Hunt will be graduating and Trenton Gillison has entered the transfer portal, so playing time opportunities are there for the taking. Nickel has been regarded by many in the recruiting world as the best blocking tight end in this class, and furthermore, has shown a strong ability to receive as an tight end in his senior season at Milton. I think we will look back at this being one of the biggest additions in the 2022 class.

Mel Tucker plays chess, not checkers. Back in July, Michigan State football landed the commitment of 2022 3-star tight end Jack Nickel. On Friday, the Spartans offered his brother Luke Nickel, a 2025 prospect who happens to be one of the top young high school quarterbacks in Georgia.

Nickel is poised to be one of the top recruits in the 2025 recruiting class, and should get interest from practically every top program in the country. The Spartans are getting in early here and might have a leg up through the commitment of his brother.

Recruiting Round-Up: How MSU football commits fared last week

Take a look at how Michigan State football’s commits played in week one of the high school season.

It is the start of a brand new year in football, the 2021 edition of football for high school, college and professional.

The high school season got kicked off this past weekend for several states across the country.

In this series, we will look at how Michigan State’s commits fared in their games from the prior week.

Mel Tucker has brought a lot of excitement around the program, especially when it comes to recruiting, and being able to keep up with how the newest Spartans are competing at the high school ranks will continue to bring excitement.

Former Notre Dame tight end commit finds his new home

Enjoy the mitten

Almost a year ago, Georgia tight end Jack Nickel decided he knew where he wanted to attend college, South Bend. Over the next nine months, Notre Dame thought it had once again gone into the Peach State and grabbed another impressive prospect.

Then in April, Nickel reopened his recruitment, decommited from the Irish and looked at other schools. It didn’t take long for Brian Kelly and his staff to identify others at this position, grabbing commitments from Eli Raridon and Holden Staes, effectively closing the door on Nickel’s return to the Irish class.

The door was officially closed yesterday as Nickel made his second verbal, this time to Michigan State.

Even thought the Irish ultimately missed on Nickel, both Raridon and Staes are ranked higher than the former commit. It seems it all worked out for both parties. Kelly found better replacements at tight end, and Nickel is going to a team that needs an influx of talent.

Three MSU football targets fans should keep an eye on

Michigan State fans saw a boom in recruiting throughout the month of June. The Spartans landed seven new 2022 commits during the month and have gotten raved reviews hosting recruits on visits.

The Spartans coaching staff is going to look on building that momentum that they have created for themselves so far and really push the class to the next level.

MSU has made an impression on a number of recruits and will be able to make a push to gain even more commitments in the coming weeks.

Let’s take a look at a few targets fans should keep an eye on:

Tight End U loses tight end commitment

Tight End U has lost a commitment

Longtime Notre Dame 2022 football commitment Jack Nickel is no longer that as on Tuesday he announced that he’d be reopening his college recruiting.

Nickel announced his original commitment to Notre Dame back in late July of 2020, but with the de-commitment the Irish now see their class fall to 11 players overall as the school known as “Tight End U” now is without a tight end in their current recruiting cycle.

Nickel is listed as a three-star prospect on 247Sports and checks in at 6-4, 230 pounds out of Milton High School in Georgia.

Notre Dame will now look to get back in the tight end recruiting game for the 2022 class.

Top-2023 recruit calls Notre Dame ‘amazing program’

Is Notre Dame football elite? Not quite, but to a top-2023 recruit they are “amazing”.

Notre Dame fans who keep an extra-close eye on recruiting are familiar with Milton High School in Georgia as a 2022 recruiting class commitment, tight end Jack Nickel is a student there.

It’s a 2023 recruiting prospect from Milton that is in the news for Notre Dame however as top-ranked defensive end Lebbeus Overton recently had some very positive things to say about the Notre Dame football program.

Speaking to Mike Singer from BlueandGold.com (click for the full article, it’s worth your time), Overton offered the following:

“I’ve watched a lot of their games. I don’t know how to describe it; it’s just an amazing program. They have everything you need to be successful.”

Overton is rated as the nation’s top player according to the most recent 2023 individual rankings that were released by Rivals.  Overton also told Singer that Nickel is in his ear about attending Notre Dame:

“He’s been in my ear a lot,” Overton said. “That’s my guy; we’re close. I’m glad he’s at Notre Dame. It’s an amazing school, especially for tight ends. Ever since I got the offer, he’s been on me and trying to hype me up about it.”

It’s clearly a good sign for Notre Dame that the nation’s top-rated prospect has that to share, but it’s hardly a two-foot putt that Overton will eventually commit to the program.

It’s a good first step and positive news, but a lot of work remains for Notre Dame with the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M just a few of those in pursuit of Overton.
