Notre Dame football: Where former Irish to enter transfer portal ended up

Which former Domer will have the best college success elsewhere?

Since the start of the 2022 football season Notre Dame has now seen 10 players enter the transfer portal.  It started with a rather surprising entry when defensive lineman Jacob Lacey, who had been a star of the afternoon in a win over Cal just weeks earlier, entered the portal in early October.

Since then nine more Notre Dame players have dipped their toes in the transfer portal waters.  Some of those 10 have announced their new college football homes while we’re still waiting on decisions from others.  A pair of quarterbacks, a former high school Butkus Award winner, and 2022’s second-leading rusher are among them.

Here are the 10 players to have entered the portal since the start of the 2022 season and where they intend on playing college football in 2022:

Former Notre Dame linebacker reuniting with former Irish coach in SEC

Reunited and it feels so good?

Former Notre Dame linebacker Prince Kollie entered the transfer portal just after the conclusion of spring practice in April.

After much speculation we officially know where Kollie is headed, and it involves the coach that played a huge part in getting him to come to Notre Dame originally.

Kollie is headed to Vanderbilt where former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea is entering his third year as head coach. Lea was the lead recruiter in getting Kollie interested in Notre Dame and obviously kept in positive contact after Lea departed for Nashville.

It’s a homecoming for Kollie, who starred at David Crockett High School in Tennessee.

Kollie played in all 13 games for the Irish in 2022, racking up 19 tackles, 2.5 of those for loss and 1.5 sacks. He starred on special teams as he blocked a punt against Stanford, and he returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Clemson.

Was Notre Dame a winner or loser during the spring transfer portal window?

How did you feel about the Irish’s spring portal work?

As we all know, there was plenty of movement for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football during the spring transfer portal window.

Now that player are no longer allowed to enter their names into the portal, 247Sports took a look back and named winners and losers of the spring transfers and it didn’t go all that well for the Irish.

It’s hard to argue Robbie Weinstein’s assessment, they losses were significant. Key contributors on offense quarterback [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag], running back [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Lorenzo Styles Jr.[/autotag] all left for more playing time.

Linebacker [autotag]Prince Kollie[/autotag], a former 5-star, was the only defender to leave and even though he didn’t make much of an impact on the field, losing a talent like that isn’t easy to overcome.

For me the biggest loss was Buchner. It wasn’t about his productivity on the field, as I was often a critic of his play, it was about the depth. Weinstein also sees that issue as he noted “but if (Sam) Hartman gets hurt? That could be an issue.”

A big one, there’s no experience behind transfer [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] and it might be in head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s interest to go to the portal and get one. Even that move wouldn’t make them a winner, but it would give some much needed depth at quarterback.

Texas A&M needs to pursue former Notre Dame LB Prince Kollie

After entering the transfer portal just a day ago, former 5-star recruit and Notre Dame LB Prince Kollie should be No.1 on A&M’s radar

Texas A&M under head coach Jimbo Fisher has landed a five-star ranked prospect at nearly every position, outside of, you guessed it, linebacker. After seemingly ending the odd streak, 2023 five-star linebacker Anthony Hill opted out of his initial commitment to the program, instead chose the path of the dark side (kidding), and signed with the Texas Longhorns a couple of months later.

Not to say that productive players like former linebackers Buddy Johnson and Andre White Jr. (transferred to Georgia Tech) don’t deserve their flowers, but the overall “high ceiling” prospect has continued to slip through their grasp.

However, with one of their more prominent recruits at the position in Will linebacker Edgerrin Cooper returning for his junior season paired with senior MLB Chris Russell Sr., the starting unit is in adequate shape ahead of the 2023 season, and after adding Jackson State transfer LB Jurriente Davis to the mix, quality depth has now been established.

Not to say that more depth shouldn’t be added, and after news broke that former five-star and Notre Dame LB Prince Kollie entered the evergrowing transfer portal earlier this week, Jimbo Fisher should be on the phone ASAP with one of the most talented and underutilized players left on the market.

In two seasons with the Fighting Irish, Kollie tallied 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks while never seeing the field as much as his recruiting rankings would project, yet he still possesses all the tools to become a three-down option, while providing notable pass-rush potential, something the Aggies desperately need from the linebacker spot next season.

Notre Dame loses former 5-star linebacker to the transfer portal

It wasn’t meant to be

It should come as no surprise that [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] is going to get hit with a few transfers. It’s part of college football.

The Irish have seen more than a few players already enter, the most significant being Lorenzo Styles Jr., but you can add another name to the list, linebacker [autotag]Prince Kollie[/autotag].

The former five-star never really got on the field though it seemed he was likely to play a larger role this season after recording 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2022.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame will never see the Tennessee star make a major impact in South Bend. We wish Kollie good luck at his next location.

Notre Dame players who will not play in Blue-Gold Game

You’re out of luck if you want to see these players in spring action.

The annual Blue-Gold Game is a fantastic experience for Notre Dame fans. It especially is a great opportunity for those who don’t have either the time or the money to get out to Notre Dame Stadium during the season. You get to watch your favorite Irish players in action at a fraction of the cost and without having to navigate through hoards of people whether they’re going to the game or not.

But just like with regular games, there will be players missing. For one reason or another, some of them might be seen on the sidelines but will not see any action. While that might be a disappointment to some people, it’s better to have them sit out now and not when the actual games start.

To save you any confusion and ease any disappointment that might come of these players not participating in the Blue-Gold Game, here they are:

Signing Day Superlatives: Which Notre Dame commits will have major impacts

This Irish class is loaded with talent

It wasn’t how [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] envisioned his first full recruiting class to end as the loss of [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag] to Oregon put a bit of a damper on what should be viewed as a very impressive initial group.

The 2023 recruiting cycle will always be remembers as Freeman’s first, a collection of 24 players who can make a very big impact in the future for the program. There will be more than a few stars from this class and since they are now officially member of the [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] program, we can not dream of what they will accomplish on the field.

Here is my best guess as which players will have major contributions for the Irish in the years to come.

5 Stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s upset win over Clemson

A dominating effort from start to finish for the Irish

The celebration continues here. What else can you say about this team, who has turned around their fortunes after looking like they could have rolled over and given up this season. Notre Dame looked like the fourth ranked team in the country, not Clemson. It was beating, in all aspects of the game. Yes, the title claims that there were bad performances, but if you scroll down, you’ll just find a bunch of 5 stars after the Irish’s 35-14 upset of the Tigers.

Twitter reacts to Notre Dame touchdown off blocked punt

Can’t end your first defensive possession better than this.

If you thought [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag]’s two blocked punts in the first quarter against UNLV were impressive, how about something to top it? Specifically, how about Notre Dame’s punt return team doing it to put points on the board against Clemson? To conclude the Irish’s first defensive possession, [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] blocked Adam Swanson’s would-be punt, and [autotag]Prince Kollie[/autotag] scooped up the loose ball for a 17-yard touchdown to put the Irish up, 7-0:

If you’re going to play spoiler against a College Football Playoff contender, this is one heck of a way to start it off. Notre Dame Stadium was up for grabs after this and so probably were Irish watch parties all over. We have no idea if the Irish will be able to repeat what they did against the Tigers on this exact field two years ago, but they’re showing they won’t just lay down in this game either.

Here are some of the best Twitter reactions to the big play from Irish fans:

The five hidden plays that decided Notre Dame’s loss to Stanford

These hidden plays made a big impact in the outcome

In every game, win or loss, there are plays that aren’t scoring plays that impact the outcome for both sides. For Notre Dame, it wasn’t unfortunately a losing effort but those plays still happened. Find out which five helped change the course of the game for the Irish.
