The 2023 Badger football team is one of the most intriguing in the history of the program with new head coach Luke Fickell at the helm.

The 2023 Badger football team is one of the most intriguing in the history of the program. With new head coach Luke Fickell at the helm, the hype around Wisconsin is potentially at an all-time high.

While ranking his top 25 college football teams, former Alabama quarterback and national champion Greg McElroy placed Wisconsin as the 14th best team in the country.

McElroy highlighted the additions of offensive coordinator Phil Longo, formerly with North Carolina, and SMU transfer quarterback Tanner Mordecai as reasons why the Badgers will succeed in 2023.

Longo’s “Air Raid” offense is expected to open up the Badgers’ ability to produce in the passing game while also freeing up the run game to churn out more consistent yardage.

Additionally, McElroy expects Fickell and new defensive coordinator Mike Tressel’s 3-3-5 scheme from Cincinnati to transition well to Madison.

Badger Countdown: Flashback to rare tie during 1993 campaign

The Wisconsin Badgers’ football team is now 93 days away from their 2023 season opener Sept. 2 vs Buffalo and we continue our countdown.

The Wisconsin Badgers’ football team is now 93 days away from their 2023 season opener Sept. 2 against Buffalo and we continue our countdown.

The 1993 season ended with the Badgers’ 21-16 win over UCLA in the 1994 Rose Bowl, finishing off a 10-1-1 season. As easily seen in their record, Wisconsin did record a tie during the 1993 and it wasn’t with just any ordinary team.

On November 6, 1993, the Badgers (7-1) hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes (8-0) at Camp Randall and the two teams tied 14-14. Late in the contest Wisconsin held a 14-7 lead but the Buckeyes marched down the field to tie it with under four minutes to go.

In the end, head coach Barry Alvarez and his Wisconsin squad had their shot to win it, but cornerback Marlon Kerner blocked a 32-yard Badgers field goal and the contest ended in a tie. When it came down to it, both teams finished 10-1-1 and tied for the Big Ten title.

Wisconsin won the Rose Bowl invitation tiebreaker due to Big Ten rules which resolved first-place ties by eliminating the most recent invitee.

Where each Big Ten team finished in 2023 recruiting rankings

Where did the Badgers land?

The 2023 classes are signed and sealed with National signing day now in the rearview mirror. There weren’t a ton of signing day surprises given the state of how quickly things move in college football recruiting nowadays, but Wisconsin made big splashes in the transfer portal.

Luke Fickell had to fill up his class in the middle of taking over the program, and he did an admirable job. It’s no surprise that Ohio State led the way in the five-star category, although the Buckeyes only brought in one in 2023.

No other Big Ten team landed a five-star talent. Here is a look at how the Big Ten recruiting classes stacked up according to 247Sports rankings:

Yes, the Badgers have the strongest punter in the country

Wisconsin Badgers are known for impressive feats in the weight room, but usually those are reserved for linebackers, running backs, and offensive lineman to name a few positions.

Punters showing off in the weight room? Not something you come across every day.

Wisconsin’s starting punter Andy Vujnovich is no ordinary punter. After transferring from D-3, the Badger State native has excelled as Wisconsin’s starting punter for the past two seasons. He has also turned heads in the weight room. A video of “Vuj” from 2021 has once again been circling the internet this week, leading to a number of hilarious reactions from the college football world.

Vujnovich performed a “Turkish Get-Up” last preseason, and the video is once again blowing up on social media:
