Wisconsin basketball transfer portal target set for unofficial visit with Big Ten rival

Omaha transfer forward set for unofficial visit with Big Ten rival

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team has been in contact with Nebraska-Omaha transfer power forward Frankie Fidler, but he’s set to visit Big Ten rival Nebraska on Thursday.

Fidler averaged 20.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45.2% from the field in his junior season with the Mavericks. Considering he’s from Bellevue, Nebraska, it’s not surprising he’s visiting the Cornhuskers in Lincoln.

What makes the 6-foot-7 athlete so intriguing as a portal option for the Badgers is his relationship with point guard Chucky Hepburn, his former teammate at Bellevue West.

You have to imagine that if Nebraska doesn’t lock him up, a visit to Madison will likely be in store in the near future.

Wisconsin has also been in contact with another of Hepburn and Fidler’s teammates from high school, William Kyle III, who entered the portal from South Dakota State.

Wisconsin basketball is currently a No. 2 seed in Lunardi’s bracket as they sit at 16-4 overall and 8-1 in the conference. Despite trailing Wisconsin in the league standings, Purdue is the lone Big Ten No. 1 seed in the ESPN bracket.

Wisconsin social media reacts to a statement win over Marquette

A Wisconsin basketball season that started rocky has begun to get rolling. The Badgers used a tremendous first half from Max Klesmit and physicality on the glass and defensive end to down No. 3 Marquette 75-64.

The Kohl Center sellout crowd certainly made a difference, as they were engaged from the opening tip. Klesmit led the way with a monster first half and finished with 21 points to lead all scorers. He knocked down five of his ten three-point attempts on the afternoon.

Despite a 9-0 Marquette spurt to begin the second half, the Badgers regained their composure and closed it out on the defensive end and the boards. Wisconsin out-rebounded Marquette 38-23 on the day and looked like the more physical, stronger basketball team.

Here is how Wisconsin social media reacted to the win that lifts the Badgers to 6-2 and drops the Golden Eagles to 6-2 on the young season:

The Badgers take on Marquette on Saturday

Wisconsin basketball has already played some massive games in 2023, but there is no bigger non-conference test than the annual I-94 rivalry. Wisconsin and Marquette will meet on Saturday at the Kohl Center. The Golden Eagles are currently the No. 3 team in America at 6-1 on the year.

Wisconsin fans are set for a white out at the Kohl Center in the biggest game of the year to date. The teams have played annually since 1958 and the Badgers lead 70-59 all-time against the Golden Eagles.

Expect the biggest crowd of the early season when Wisconsin and Marquette tip off at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

The Badger basketball programs get new-look locker rooms

Ahead of a much anticipated season, both Wisconsin men’s and women’s basketball got to see their newly revamped locker rooms.

For the men, the Badgers begin their season on November 1 with an exhibition against UW-Stevens Point before the regular season begins with Arkansas State on November 6 at the Kohl Center.

The women’s squad begins with an exhibition against UW-Whitewater on October 29 before the season-opener against Milwaukee on November 7 at the Kohl Center.

Here is a look at both of the new locker rooms:

Wisconsin basketball will have a new analyst on the radio broadcast this season

The Badgers name a former Wisconsin big to the broadcast team

A familiar name is returning to the Wisconsin basketball sidelines, this time with a microphone in hand. Wisconsin has officially named Brian Butch, a former First-Team All-Big Ten performer as a Badger big man, as their analyst on the broadcast.

Butch’s career has taken him all over the game and the world, from an international professional career as a player to three seasons as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G-League.

As a Badger, Butch was a First-Team All-Big Ten player during the 2008 season, and Wisconsin Mr. Basketball in high school in 2003. A Badger State basketball legend will join Matt Lepay on the call this season:

Former Wisconsin basketball star Ethan Happ has a new professional home. The former Badger standout is headed to CB Gran Canaria in the Spanish ACB, a league many consider to be the best outside of the NBA.

This will mark Happ’s second campaign in the Spanish ACB. He appeared in 34 games for Rio Breogan last season. Happ averaged more than 12 points and seven rebounds for the squad a year ago.

The squad recently made its first EuroLeague appearance in 2018-19 and has been building off that success. Here is more on the new signing and the latest with Happ from Eurohoops:
