ACC players selected in the 2022 NBA draft

Who from the Irish’s conference have made the jump?

For the fourth time since 1999, a Duke player was the first overall selection of the NBA draft. That also made it the ninth consecutive year in which the ACC had one of its players taken within the first four picks. The conference had a decent night overall, but the 2022 NBA Draft particularly was amazing for Duke, like that surprises anyone. Meanwhile, Notre Dame saw one of its own selected in the first round, which had not happened in seven years.

While it would be nice to guarantee that all of these players will hit it big in the NBA, we all know that’s unlikely. Some might be future superstars, and others might not even register a single minute in the league. Time will let all of these careers play out, and it’s not really the time to speculate on who will be good or bad. This is the time for them to celebrate the next chapter of their lives.

Here are the ACC players who were drafted by NBA teams in 2022:

Latest 2022 NBA mock draft has Sixers selecting Duke’s Wendell Moore Jr.

A new mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Duke forward Wendell Moore Jr.

As it stands, the Philadelphia 76ers are likely not to keep their No. 23 selection in the 2022 NBA draft on Thursday night at Barclays Center as they are shopping the pick aggressively in order to attach it to a player and clear cap space for free agent P.J. Tucker.

With that being said, the selection is still theirs, and taking a look at some mock drafts is still a priority as they move forward with their offseason plans.

While the Sixers have already brought in Jaden Hardy for a workout, there are still some other options out there that fill their need for some depth on the wings. A new mock draft put together by CBS Sports has the Sixers selecting versatile Wendell Moore Jr. from Duke who fills that need.

CBS Sports on Moore Jr.’s Sixers fit:

A steady three-year riser at Duke, Moore picked the right time to leave. His 3-point shooting jumped from 30% to 41.3% this past season. He’s a career 81.4% foul shooter, and has lead guard attributes with 6-5 size. He should be receiving more first-round prognostication. Few on-ball defenders playing guard or wing last season were as game-over-game reliable as Moore, who bolstered his reputation by rarely committing bad fouls or racking up time on the bench due to foul trouble. A mature player with so much good to his game, it’s easy to see how he’ll find a place and likely stick around in the NBA for a long time.

The 3-point shot is what stands out about Moore Jr. He can immediately fill a rotational spot as a 3-and-D player as he comes into the league able to produce on both ends of the floor. At the moment, the Sixers have a 3-guy (Furkan Korkmaz) and a D-guy (Matisse Thybulle) for their bench unit, but Moore Jr. can do both.

Warriors land Duke’s Wendell Moore Jr. in latest For The Win NBA mock draft

In the latest NBA mock draft from For The Win, the Golden State Warriors landed Duke’s Wendell Moore Jr.

While the push to the postseason is heating up in the NBA, the peak of March Madness is set for college basketball with the Final Four. During the men’s basketball NCAA Tournament, some of the top prospects for the upcoming NBA draft have been on display.

In the latest NBA mock draft from USA TODAY’s For The Win, the Golden State Warriors landed one of the tournament’s standouts.

With the No. 28 overall pick, Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win penned Duke’s Wendell Moore Jr. to the Warriors. According to Kalbrosky, Moore is one of the more versatile prospects on both offense and defense.

Via For The Win:

Duke’s Wendell Moore took a few years to find his footing but now, among players in this class, he is one of the more versatile prospects on both sides of the ball. Plus, although Moore already has three seasons of collegiate experience, he is actually only two months older than Kentucky freshman TyTy Washington.

Moore improved nearly each and every aspect of his game, even running the offense at points for the Blue Devils. That was more than enough to put him on the radar as a draftable player in the first round.

Read the rest of Kalbrosky’s mock draft on For The Win here.

In his third season with the Blue Devils, Moore Jr. is averaging 13.5 points on 50.8% shooting from the field with 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest. In four games through the NCAA tournament, Moore Jr. is averaging 13.5 points on 54.8% shooting from the floor with 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 33.8 minutes per game.

Moore Jr. and Duke will meet rivals North Carolina in the Final Four on Saturday. The rivalry is set to tip off in New Orleans at 5:49 p.m. PT.

The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

In order to help us get a better sense of where all of the projected top prospects in the class stand as of right now, we compiled mock drafts from Draft Express (ESPN), Aran Smith (NBADraft.net), Sam Vecenie (The Athletic), Jonathan Wasserman (Bleacher Report), Chad Ford (NBA Big Board), Krysten Peek (Yahoo), Matt Babcock (Basketball News) as well as USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s For The Win.

Please note that these rankings reflect the composite score in order to get a feel for consensus, not our own opinion. Predictions for a first overall pick earned a player 58 points while the second overall pick earned 57 points, the third overall earned 56 points, and so on.

AJ Griffin (Duke), Alondes Williams (Wake Forrest), Iverson Molinar (Mississippi State), Orlando Robinson (Fresno State), Walker Kessler (Fresno State), Justin Lewis (Marquette), Christian Braun (Kansas), and Tari Eason (LSU) have improved their draft stock the most since our most recent update last month.\

The most notable prospects who made their debut on our rankings were Shaedon Sharpe (Kentucky), David Roddy (Colorado State), and Jaylin Williams (Arkansas).

Meanwhile, the top prospects who were not included in any of these recent mock drafts are Daimion Collins (Kentucky), Alex Fudge (LSU), Justin Moore (Villanova), Darius Days (LSU), Jared Rhoden (Seton Hall), Tre Mitchell (Texas), Dawson Garcia (North Carolina), and more.

NBA mock draft: Who Rockets could take with two 2022 first-round picks

For The Win draft guru Bryan Kalbrosky sees Duke’s Paolo Banchero and teammate Wendell Moore Jr. as potential NBA draft fits with the Rockets.

With the 2021-22 NBA regular season now over halfway completed and college basketball in the middle of conference play, mock drafts are becoming more intriguing and valuable to monitor.

After all, a team like the Houston Rockets that currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference knows they have very strong odds to draft high in the first round. Moreover, the track records for many available college players are coming into better focus, since many of the top prospects are now facing off quality opposition on a more regular basis.

The Rockets are currently slotted to have two first-round picks in the 2022 NBA draft: Their own, along with the higher pick between Miami and Brooklyn. As of now, Houston’s pick is likely to be high in the draft, while the Miami/Brooklyn pick appears likely to be in the 20s — since both the Heat and Nets appear poised to easily make the playoffs.

As of Saturday, the Rockets (12-32) had the league’s third-worst record. Scroll on for a look at the draft lottery odds, should that position hold, along with insight by For The Win’s Bryan Kalbrosky on who they might take with each of their two first-round selections in 2022.

2022 NBA Draft Big Board 1.0: Debut rankings of the top 101 prospects

Let’s be honest. Ranking the best NBA draft prospects is a fool’s errand. But evaluating this class is an especially challenging assignment.

Let’s be honest. Ranking the best NBA draft prospects is a fool’s errand. But evaluating this class is an especially challenging assignment.

One of the top pre-season prospects (Patrick Baldwin Jr.) is playing for a mid-major program that has just two wins so far this season. Other top prospects (AJ Griffin and Peyton Watson) are not getting much playing time for their high-major programs. Meanwhile, guard Jean Montero is playing in the inaugural Overtime Elite league. How do we compare his productivity to other prospects? I’m frankly not sure.

But nevertheless, my big board exists. Rather than going small, I decided to blow it up and do the opposite. Why did I go ahead and rank 101 prospects if this class has been so challenging to evaluate? There are two distinct reasons.

One is that I’m absolutely crazy and get a very fulfilling satisfaction with the completion of a mock draft and big board because it feels complete. It looks awesome seeing as many names as I can fit on one article, even if the science behind the rankings is a bit inconclusive.

The other reason is that as I make more big boards throughout the year, it’s interesting to track the progress (and regression) of certain prospects. I am inevitably wrong about most of these placements! But this article serves as a barometer for where I feel certain players are at in their development right now.

Note that several notable prospects (e.g. freshmen Max Christie, Matthew Cleveland, Nolan Hickman, Hunter Sallis, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, Jeremy Sochan, Kobe Bufkin) were excluded because I expect them to go back to school to improve their draft stock.

More likely than not, some of those players will declare for the 2022 NBA draft. When that happens, I obviously will not have them outside of my top 101.

Until then, as we prepare to turn the calendar into a new year, here are the debut rankings for 101 of my favorite prospects.

All stats are accurate as of Dec. 14 and are from Sports-Reference unless noted otherwise.

2022 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Predicting all 59 picks, starting with Paolo Banchero

After a few games, we have a much better idea of how prospects like Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren will be used until the 2022 NBA draft.

After a few games, we have a much better idea of how prospects like Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren will be used until the 2022 NBA draft.

Preseason mock drafts, like the one we published back on Aug. 11, are especially challenging. Predictions are mostly guesswork based on uninformed priors until we’ve seen the usage of how each coach will implement the prospects we are evaluating.

Additionally, several players used the offseason to work on certain skill sets (e.g. Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji is now a much better shooter) in ways we couldn’t have projected.

As such, even though it’s only been a few games, it’s a lot easier to discuss the 2022 NBA draft now than it was even just last month. The season is underway for college basketball — and the G League Ignite, Overtime Elite, and several international leagues —  which means draft boards are shaping up.

After a ton of movement, as of right now, here is how we see the 2022 NBA draft unfolding.

Draft order is pulled from Tankathon. All stats are accurate as of 11/22/21.
