While Michigan State basketball has produced some star-level NBA talent during Tom Izzo’s tenure such as Draymond Green and Jaren Jackson Jr., a handful of other Spartans are also doing their thing, grinding for an opportunity on an NBA roster.

The NBA’s summer league kicks off this weekend, and four Spartans will suit up, trying to earn a look from NBA teams. You can see who they are and what squads they are playing for below.

Marcus Bingham Jr. to play on the Dallas Mavericks Summer League team

For the second year in a row, former Michigan State basketball big man Marcus Bingham Jr. will play for the Dallas Mavericks Summer League team.

Bingham was also set to play for the Maverick’s G-League team before suffering a season ending injury.

The Summer League is an opportunity for (mostly) young NBA hopefuls to get a chance to impress NBA teams and ultimately land a spot on a G-League roster, or better.

Marcus Bingham reportedly signs exhibit 10 contract with Dallas Mavericks

Marcus Bingham has reportedly agreed to an exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks

Marcus Bingham is heading from East Lansing, Mich. to Dallas.

Bingham has reportedly signed an exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported the signing shortly after Bingham went undrafted in Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Bingham averaged 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game this past season. He ended his college career as Michigan State’s all-time leader in blocks.

An exhibit 10 contract is essentially a training camp invite so Bingham will have an uphill battle to earn a spot on the Mavericks’ roster. However, it does at least bode well for him in at least playing for the team’s NBA G League affiliate — the Texas Legends.

Former Michigan State Spartan Marcus Bingham is picking up some NBA interest ahead of the draft later this month.

Bingham reportedly worked out for the Toronto Raptors earlier this week, according to Stock Risers. Bingham wasn’t invited to the NBA Draft Combine and isn’t expected to get drafted later this month but could still improve his stock to sign with a team through these pre-draft workouts.

Bingham averaged 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this past season. He also was stellar on the defensive end, averaging 2.2 blocks per game.

Michigan State basketball big man Marcus Bingham Jr. will forego extra year of eligibility and declare for NBA draft

Marcus Bingham Jr. will forego his extra year of eligibility and declare for the NBA draft

Another huge domino when it comes to the Michigan State basketball 2022-23 roster has fallen. On Saturday, Mike Lacett of WZZM Grand Rapids reported that Marcus Bingham Jr. will forego his extra year of eligibility and declare for the 2022 NBA draft.

This news comes on the same day that Gabe Brown also announced that he will not be rejoining the team. Like Brown, Bingham definitely has skills that will be attractive to NBA teams, but also like Brown, he struggled with his consistency throughout the season and will need to impress in workouts to get a solid opportunity at the next level.

Bingham finally got his chance to play more than 15 minutes per game this year, and he made good use of it for the most part, averaging 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 0.9 steals per game. Remarkably, he also managed to set the MSU all-time career blocks record despite playing limited minutes in his time with the Spartans.
