Dominant defense, Jalen Hurts lifts Eagles to a 40-22 win over Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

In what can only be described as a beatdown, the Eagles exacted revenge on the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion, 40-22.

Vic Fangio’s No. 1 ranked defense held Kansas City to 275 yards of total offense and 3-11 on third downs, with Patrick Mahomes getting sacked six times on the night. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts was 17 of 22 passing for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a 119.7 passer rating.

Kansas City scored 16 fourth-quarter points, but it was too late as the Eagles jumped out to a 34-6 lead in the third quarter and bullied the Chiefs throughout the contest. In what can only be described as a team win, the Eagles won despite Saquon Barkley getting held to 57 yards on 25 carries.

Jalen Hurts led the Eagles with a Super Bowl record of 11 carries for 72 yards and one rushing touchdown.

With Barkley shut down, DeVonta Smith had four catches for 69 yards (17.3 avg) and one touchdown.  A.J. Brown had three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Look: Bradley Cooper narrates Eagles hype video for Super Bowl LIX matchup vs. Chiefs

The Philadelphia Eagles released this hype video narrated by actor Bradley Cooper ahead of Sunday’s #SuperBowl matchup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

The countdown has begun, and the Eagles and Chiefs are a little over 28 hours away from kickoff at Caesars Superdome on Sunday night.

Bradley Cooper is one of the biggest Eagles fans, so it makes sense that the famed actor would contribute to the Super Bowl LIX hype video after doing the same two years ago

Cooper narrates the video that focuses on winning “coming down to this moment,” which is the biggest game of Jalen Hurts’s career.

Philadelphia earned its second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons after posting a franchise-record-tying 14-3 record and a postseason run that featured three straight victories at home, including a 55-23 win against Washington in the NFC Championship Game (most points scored in a conference championship game in NFL history).

For only the second time, two Black quarterbacks will face off on the NFL’s biggest stage. Hurts and Mahomes were the first two in Super Bowl 57. Since 2022, Jalen Hurts has been 42-12 (including the playoffs) as a starting quarterback, just behind Patrick Mahomes (48-10).

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

Philadelphia Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s departure is the mistake that Howie Roseman corrected. The boisterous defensive back will have the most pivotal role as we approach Super Bowl LIX, which is a little over 52 hours away.

Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia after one year in Detroit. He re-energized the Eagles’ defense and stabilized Vic Fangio’s backend. The former Florida Gators defensive back is also a rapper and content creator in his off-time.

With Super Bowl opening night being the a ‘Movie’, it was only right that a mic’d up Gardner-Johnson got to direct the show.

Gardner-Johnson tied for the 3rd-most interceptions (career-high-tying 6) in the league, trailing only Kerby Joseph (9) and Xavier McKinney (8). According to PFF, he is 3rd among NFL safeties with nine forced incompletions, behind Brian Branch (12) and Ar’Darius Washington (10).

Titans predicted to sign this Pro Bowl offensive lineman

The Tennessee Titans need to upgrade their offensive line and the team at Bleacher Report think they are a perfect fit for a Pro Bowl lineman.

The Tennessee Titans’ new front office has many tasks ahead in the coming months. With free agency and the NFL draft, there will be many decisions on how to rebuild a team that went 3-14 in 2024.

With free agency around the corner, it will be intriguing to see what type of influence new general manager Mike Borgonzi will have coming over from Kansas City. Will they be aggressive or will they be more conservative? No one can say for sure at this point.

Even with that unknown, outside outlets from presenting their thoughts on the direction of the franchise or preclude them from making free agent predictions.

That includes the Bleacher Report, who believes the Titans are a perfect fit for one of the top free agents soon to be on the market: Guard Trey Smith.

Interior Offensive Line: Trey Smith

While Stanley may play a position that is traditionally more valued, Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith might be the most coveted offensive lineman scheduled for free agency.

He’s been one of the biggest catalysts of Kansas City’s Super Bowl-bound rushing attack this season and could hit free agency amid a boom in the interior-line market.

Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson recently reset that market with a $21 million-per-season contract.

Smith is an elite run-blocker and didn’t allow a single sack in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus, while starting all 17 games. He won’t turn 26 until June and has a legitimate chance to top Dickerson’s deal in free agency. If he doesn’t, he should come close.

The Chiefs should be eager to retain Smith, though that may not be feasible financially. Kansas City is projected to have just $16.3 million in cap space, while he carries a projected market value of $19.7 million annually.

The projected tag value for offensive linemen is $23 million.

The prediction here is that Smith reaches the open market and finds a new deal with a cap-rich team. The Tennessee Titans figure to be a prime landing spot for a few reasons.

For one, Tennessee has $50.3 million in projected cap space and recently hired Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi to be its general manager.

Second, the Titans are expected to find a new quarterback in 2025 and need to protect him. Pairing Smith with 2023 first-round pick Peter Skoronski at guard would give Tennessee a strong foundation along its offensive interior.

It’s also worth noting that Smith played his college ball with the Tennessee Volunteers, making a partnership with the Titans a homecoming of sorts for the 2024 Pro Bowler.

Prediction: Tennessee Titans

The Titans offensive line was a mess in 2024. Guard Dillon Radunz never truly settled in at right guard and is an unrestricted free agent. But the interior of the unit was less of an issue than the right tackle position, and it is hard to tell exactly how Radunz fits because of the hole on his outside shoulder. Smith would definitely be an upgrade and help solidify the unit.

With roughly seven weeks until free agency begins on March 12, there will be a lot of talk and speculation in that time. There is no doubt rebuilding the offensive line will be front and center in most of those discussions.

ESPN makes ‘big prediction’ for the Chargers’ offseason

Right guard was a major weakness for the Chargers this past season, which could lead them to pursue the position heavily in free agency.

The Chargers have some holes that need to be addressed this offseason, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Throughout the 2024 campaign, the interior portion of the offensive line proved to be the group’s weakness.

Center Bradley Bozeman and right guard Trey Pipkins were the two weak spots along the offensive line. Both of their futures in Los Angeles remain unclear, as Pipkins could become a cap casualty.

In fact, that seems likely to happen as he doesn’t seem to be worth the money that he is being paid. Regardless, offensive line remains a position of need for Los Angeles, whether it be in the draft or free agency.

In a recent article, ESPN’s Ben Solak boldly predicts that the Chargers would make a splash at right guard this offseason. Solak thinks the team will land a big-name free agent at the position.

“They will pursue a potential long-term starter at guard with a strong run-blocking background. Will Hernandez, Mekhi Becton, and Aaron Banks all make sense as free agent targets.”

Amongst the listed names, Becton is perhaps the most intriguing one. Originally drafted 11th overall to be an offensive tackle, he made the transition to guard this past season with the Eagles. The former New York Jet did quite well, as Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 21st best guard with a 75.2 overall grade.

Becton is particularly effective in the run game, as Solak mentioned, an aspect of offense that we know Jim Harbaugh loves. None of those three names are considered elite at their position, but they would all be upgrades over Pipkins.

It may take a slight overpay, but it would be worth it to upgrade this offensive line once again. It would also help improve the team’s run game, which was inconsistent for the duration of the 2024 season.

Chiefs OG Trey Smith earns a unique honor from ‘The Pat McAfee Show’

The awards and accolades keep rolling in for the Kansas City Chiefs, awaiting an opponent in the postseason after their bye week. Trey Smith has taken his game to another level this season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and being a key member of the highly respected interior offensive line.

In a special segment on the latest episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Smith was honored with ‘The Trenchy Award’ for the best guard of the season. McAfee announced the award alongside retired veteran NFL center A.Q. Shipley, who praised the former Tennessee Volunteers standout. He’s the best that you’re going to see, and he plays the game the right way,” said Shipley, highlighting a specific highlight from Smith’s 2024 season.

Shipley mentioned Joe Thuney as another candidate, but due to his recent move to left tackle, he couldn’t qualify for the interior offensive lineman honor. The segment briefly showcased Smith’s performance earlier in the season against Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers.

The two-time Super Bowl champion was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has quickly become an impact player on the Chiefs’ offensive line.
