Texas added a key piece to its 2023 roster on Friday with the commitment of Georgia wide receiver AD Mitchell.

The standout pass catcher wasted no time in making a decision after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday. Mitchell took a visit to Texas on Thursday and announced his signing with the Longhorns on Friday night.

Mitchell has a knack for coming up in big moments. He caught a touchdown in all four of Georgia’s playoff games over the past two seasons. Mitchell hopes to make more clutch plays in the burnt orange and white this fall.

He brings physicality and a much-needed vertical threat to the Texas offense. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will have one of the more talented wide receiver corps in the nation to work with this season with Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Mitchell leading the charge.

Texas set to host multiple top 2024 prospects this weekend

With most of the 2023 recruiting class all but wrapped up, Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ staff turn their attention to the 2024 cycle.

The Longhorns are set to host a plethora of top targets this weekend at the program’s annual junior day event. This weekend gives Texas an opportunity to start building relationships with some of the best high school players in the country.

Recruiting is an area where Sarkisian has prioritized and excelled in his tenure as Texas’ head man.

Texas signed two top-five classes in Sark’s first full recruiting cycles. His No. 3 ranked 2023 class is the highest-rated group Texas has signed since 2010 under Mack Brown.

Here is a look at a few of the top prospects expected to make the trip to Austin this weekend for Texas’ recruiting event, according to On3 Sports. Five-star running back Jerrick Gibson and five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson highlight the players coming in to visit.

Bobby Burton of Inside Texas reports Steve Sarkisian is close to hiring Chris Jackson of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As a former wide receiver himself, Jackson had a great career at Washington State and in the professional ranks. He brings in west coast ties as an alumnus of Mater Dei High School.

Jackson helped the young Jaguars receiving core make significant strides toward a massive turnaround this season. Jacksonville’s miraculous comeback against the Chargers over the weekend has them in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs after holding the worst record in football last year.

Texas’ wide receiver room is full is talented weapons. The Longhorns return its top three pass catchers in Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Casey Cain. Multiple highly decorated incoming freshmen will bring more competition to the unit from the jump.

Texas DL Moro Ojomo declares for 2023 NFL Draft

Moro Ojomo will forgo his final year of eligibility.

Texas defensive lineman Moro Ojomo has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. The redshirt junior announced he would forgo his final season of eligibility and turn pro.

Ojomo has been a critical piece on Texas’ defensive line over the past four years. The former four-star from the 2018 class played 42 games for the Longhorns in his collegiate career.

2022 was Ojomo’s best season as a Texas Longhorn. He was named AP second-team All-Big 12, tallying three sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. Ojomo helped Texas’ massive turnaround of the defensive side of the ball this year.

Ojomo joins running backs Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and defensive tackle Keondre Coburn to declare for the draft.

Texas will turn to some of the young talents that Steve Sarkisian and Bo Davis have brought in over the past two years to replace Ojomo on the defensive front.

BOOM: Texas lands commitment from 2023 ATH Jelani McDonald

Texas lands another key piece to its 2023 recruiting class.

Texas adds another key piece to its 2023 recruiting class with the commitment of 2023 four-star athlete Jelani McDonald.

McDonald announced his decision following All-American Bowl on Saturday. He chose Texas over Big 12 foes Oklahoma State and TCU.

247Sports ranks McDonald as the No. 6 ATH in the country and the No. 20 overall prospect in the state of Texas for the 2023 cycle.

The Longhorns are getting one of the more versatile players in the nation with McDonald. He excelled on both sides of the ball for Waco Connally High School. McDonald was named district MVP and helped lead his school to the second round of the playoffs.

Texas sees McDonald likely profiling on the defenive side of the ball at the next level. Many project him to fill out into a linebacker role.

Steve Sarkisian and his Texas staff are on the way to stacking back-to-back top-five recruiting classes.
