8 transfer portal entrants Alabama could pursue

Alabama has struck gold multiple times by landing stars from the transfer portal. Here are eight names currently in the portal to keep an eye on!

The transfer portal season is upon us. There are players and coaches exiting programs left and right for better situations. The decisions made by these players are done in their own best interest, regardless of how fans online feel about it.

Oftentimes, Alabama lands transfers who are looking to make it to the next level. In the past, the Crimson Tide have helped develop transfers like Tyler Steen, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Landon Dickerson. All of them have gone on to the NFL and are currently on active rosters.

Whatever the case may be, Alabama has done an exemplary job of recruiting players in the transfer portal.

Roll Tide Wire takes a closer look at eight transfer portal entrants that Alabama could look to pursue.

Steve Sarkisian says Texas S Jalen Catalon likely won’t play on Saturday

The Longhorns will likely be without their hard-hitting safety on Saturday against Kansas State.

During Thursday’s media press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned that safety Jalen Catalon likely won’t be available for Saturday’s game against No. 23 Kansas State.

Catalon is playing his first year with the Longhorns after transferring from Arkansas in December. The hard-hitting safety has unfortunately had nagging injuries all season, forcing him not to play as much as he would like.

The senior safety has one forced fumble and 15 total tackles on the year and makes an immediate impact when he is on the field.

If Catalon can stay healthy down the stretch, the Longhorns’ defense will benefit significantly from his hard-hitting and playmaking abilities.

Week 9 CFB prospect watch guide: Players with something to prove

Here are a few 2024 NFL draft prospects who can answer some questions scouts might have about their NFL potential in CFB Week 9.

The final weekend of October should be another exciting one for college football. There are some big matchups, some interesting games out of the national spotlight and some NFL draft prospects with chances to shine.

It’s a good Saturday slate to focus on some 2024 prospects who still have something to prove to the NFL scouts who will be at their games and pore over their game film. The evaluation process is far from over, even though the college season is entering the final month for a lot of teams.

Free Catalon: Why the Texas safety could be full-go against Oklahoma

Texas might fully utilize former All-SEC safety Jalen Catalon on Saturday.

Texas safety Jalen Catalon is a heat-seeking missile. His target is opposing ball carriers at which he runs with intent to bring down with authority. It could be time for the Longhorns to fully utilize Catalon in what will be the biggest remaining game of the season.

The No. 3 Texas Longhorns (5-0) will take on the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners (5-0) on Saturday. The Sooners have made this game significant with their dominant play through five games. The matchup demands that the Longhorns exhaust all effort to win. Catalon stands as one of the players Texas can ill afford to minimize.

The transfer and former All-SEC safety is necessary for several reasons, but one is the Longhorns’ struggling secondary play. Last week continued the trend of the team getting beat by the downfield throw and featured a backup safety or two getting burned in coverage. This isn’t the week to risk that happening again.

Texas faces an Oklahoma squad who can make teams pay for vulnerability at safety. The Sooners can attack with downfield shots, but can also attack weaknesses in the intermediate passing game. The Longhorns need range from their safeties. No safety on the roster has more range than Catalon.

Whatever reason Catalon has been limited to a select amount of plays this season might be thrown out the window on Saturday. The Oklahoma game isn’t the whole season, but it’s certainly the most important conference battle.

Texas can’t hold anything back against Oklahoma. It needs its best players for as many snaps as possible. The team will look to deploy Catalon against the Sooners in Saturday’s game.

RECAP: Texas leads Kansas at half, 13-7

Texas left several points on the board in the first half against Kansas.

It’s halftime in Austin. The Texas Longhorns lead the Kansas Jayhawks, 13-7. The margin should have been far wider.

The Texas offense had a better first half than the score might indicate. Jonathon Brooks exploded like we predicted. He crossed the 100-yard mark early in the second quarter as the Longhorns pounded the Jayhawks run defense into the ground.

For the most part, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had a good half adding 162 passing yards to the rushing total. Despite the Texas offensive explosion, Kansas rode good fortune back into the game.

The Jayhawks’ only score came on a recovery of the team’s own fumble. Texas safety Jalen Catalon dislodged the ball from Kansas quarterback Jason Bean before his running back Daniel Hishaw took the fumble to the end zone.

Defensively, Kansas benefitted from opportunistic stops, but the stops were more on the Longhorns failures than the Jayhawks’ making plays. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian probably would have liked to have called less bubble screens and stuck to the run on the day.

Texas scored 13 points on 342 total yards in the first half. It wasn’t the level of efficiency you would like to see from the No. 3 team in the country.

The Jayhawks baited Ewers into his first interception of the season at the end of the half. Ewers ended early action 14-for-18 with 162 passing yards and an interception.

Despite all the missed opportunities the Longhorns lead at half, 13-7. The team will need a much better second half to ensure a win.
