BOOM: Texas lands commitment from 2023 ATH Jelani McDonald

Texas lands another key piece to its 2023 recruiting class.

Texas adds another key piece to its 2023 recruiting class with the commitment of 2023 four-star athlete Jelani McDonald.

McDonald announced his decision following All-American Bowl on Saturday. He chose Texas over Big 12 foes Oklahoma State and TCU.

247Sports ranks McDonald as the No. 6 ATH in the country and the No. 20 overall prospect in the state of Texas for the 2023 cycle.

The Longhorns are getting one of the more versatile players in the nation with McDonald. He excelled on both sides of the ball for Waco Connally High School. McDonald was named district MVP and helped lead his school to the second round of the playoffs.

Texas sees McDonald likely profiling on the defenive side of the ball at the next level. Many project him to fill out into a linebacker role.

Steve Sarkisian and his Texas staff are on the way to stacking back-to-back top-five recruiting classes.
