Watch: head coach Karen Aston and Celeste Taylor address media

Following the 77-67 victory over TCU, head coach Karen Aston and guard Celeste Taylor met with the media.

Following the Texas Longhorns’ 77-67 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs, head coach Karen Aston and freshman guard Celeste Taylor met with the media. Aston was very complimentary of her player and even credited her for her energy. Taylor is a player who always seems to be out-hustling every other player on the floor.

Taylor had a career day against the Horned Frogs with 10 rebounds which match her career-high that she first set against UT-San Antonio early on in the season. Celeste has averaged 9.1 points per game this year but set another career high with her 22-point performance. It marked her first double-double of her career and one of three Longhorns who recorded a double-double against TCU.

The Raiders surprised a draft prospect by telling him about his 37 parking tickets

How in the world do you not know about 37 tickets?

The NFL Combine is basically one big job interview for a bunch of prospective NFL prospects.

Do you know what comes with a job interview? Background checks. And in the NFL, with teams getting ready to pay their players millions of dollars to play football, they do their due diligence.

The results of all that research and investigation comes up in player interviews with teams. For Ross Blacklock, a defensive tackle coming out of TCU, he ended up learning that he has an extensive and somewhat alarming record of… parking tickets.

Blacklock built up a total of 37 (!!!) parking tickets during his time at TCU that he had absolutely no idea about.

Don’t worry, y’all. Everything is fine. Blacklock’s tickets were paid through a stipend he was getting from the school. He’s not in trouble or anything.

Two questions, man. I just want to know how. How does one accumulate 37 parking tickets? Like, dude, where are you parking? Just follow the signs, Ross. Sheesh.

Second, HOW DON’T YOU KNOW ABOUT THESE TICKETS? You’ve got to imagine that they put a slip on your car or something. They have to let you know in some way, shape or form that you have all these tickets.

Now, let’s get something straight here. Every single driver has tried to park illegally on more than one occasion. That’s just a fact of life. But THIRTY-SEVEN tickets? That’s a three and a seven? Combined?

At that point, y’all, just tow my car. I deserve it.

Texas goes on the road, beats No. 25 TCU

UT was in desperate need of a win against TCU Wednesday night. UT pulled off the upset against the 25th ranked team in the country, 77-67.

After losing three out of their last four games, Texas was in desperate need of a win on the road against TCU Wednesday night. Backed by double-doubles from three different players, the Longhorns pulled off the upset against the 25th ranked team in the country, 77-67.

Celeste Taylor led the team in scoring, recording 22 points on 8-14 shooting. She caught fire from behind the arc, leading the team with four made three-pointers on seven attempts. To go along with her scoring, Taylor grabbed 10 rebounds. Four of them offensive, the guard out of New York recorded her first double-double of the season.

The leading rebounder of the game was Charli Collier, recording 16 total boards. Dominating down low, she also blocked five shots, a season-high for her. From the field, she only shot 5-14 but was 5-7 from the free-throw line, finishing with 16 points. Ending with as many points as she did rebounds, Collier was the main contributor for the Longhorns.

The third and final player to record a double-double for the Longhorns was Joyner Holmes. She had 15 points while shooting 6-11 from inside the arc. Securing 12 rebounds, she split them evenly on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Holmes and Collier’s combined 12 offensive rebounds were more than the entire Horned Frog team combined.

Next for the Longhorns will be arch-rival Oklahoma on Saturday before traveling to Waco to face No. 2 Baylor. Currently sitting in third in the Big 12, Texas will be looking to end the season with some momentum going into the conference tournament.

Former Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin sentenced to 3 years in prison

Former TCU and Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Add Trevone Boykin to the list of star athletes who have taken a mighty fall. The former TCU and Seattle Seahawks quarterback was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday via a plea arrangement with Tarrant County (Tx) prosecutors. Boykin was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and tampering with a witness.

Per the Fort Worth Star Telegram:

Boykin was accused of domestic violence by a girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey, who alleged that Boykin broke her jaw during a March 2018 argument.

Mansfield police arrested Boykin on suspicion of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. Boykin denied the allegations and posted bond, but the Seattle Seahawks released him from the team shortly after.

Boykin, 26, starred at TCU but was undrafted in 2016. Boykin ended his career at TCU as the holder of several Horned Frogs records: career passing yards (10,728), completions (830) and pass attempts (1,356), and the single-season record for passing yards (3,901).

He signed with Seattle and had 13 completions in 18 attempts with one TD passes and one interception.

Boykin, also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor theft charges — theft of services $100-$750, and theft of property $100-$750 — and was sentenced to 180 days in Tarrant County Jail.

“The victim in this case sustained a long-standing relationship of abuse by Mr. Boykin and, along with our office, feels his prison sentence is vindication for what she endured and the consequences he was able to avoid in the past because of his ability on the football field,” said Allenna Bangs, chief of the Intimate Partner Violence team at the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Boykin’s sentences will run concurrently and the former football star should be eligible for parole in less than a year, his defense attorney, Brian Eppes said.

His issues started while in college as a senior with the Horned Frogs. Boykin was arrested in San Antonio after he allegedly punched a police officer during a bar fight on Dec. 31, 2015. He pleaded no contest to a charge of resisting arrest in June 2016 and received one year of deferred adjudication probation.

Boykin was also arrested in March 2017 following an incident in which he was a passenger in a car that hit Sidebar Bar in Dallas, plus seven people who were on a sidewalk. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and public intoxication during that incident, according to Dallas County Jail records.

Could Colts target DT Ross Blacklock on Day 2 of NFL Draft?

Colts have a few picks on Day 2.

Indianapolis Colts fans will hold their breath until the No. 13 pick in the NFL Draft this year. With a chance to put the franchise in a positive direction going forward, there are many routes Chris Ballard could choose to go. It should not be overshadowed, however, that Day 2 of the draft may be just as important a Day 1.

After a first round trade with Washington last year, the Colts are now in possession of the No. 34 pick to go along with their own No. 44 pick. This puts them in an interesting spot with two relatively early second-round picks and the chance to get some quality value picks. All of this will obviously depend on what the No. 13 pick looks like, but Ross Blacklock is a guy to keep your eye on in Day 2.

The defensive tackle out of TCU decided to forego his junior year in December and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft. Blacklock is 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 305 pounds, very impressive size for a defensive lineman. In fact, he lost almost 30 pounds heading into his junior year, which helped his speed and ability to get off the line. Not to mention, he might have one of the coolest names in the draft.

His redshirt freshman year in 2017, Blacklock racked up 27 total tackles and 2.0 sacks which earned him a Freshman All-American award as well as the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. His 2018 season was lost due to an Achilles injury he suffered in training camp that offseason. Blacklock bounced back in 2019 though with 40 total tackles and 3.5 sacks which earned him First-Team All Big 12.

His tape is very impressive, but only starting one full season before declaring for the draft is somewhat of a red flag for many draft scouts. Teams look for experience from players coming out of college and that could be the reason why Blacklock is projected as a second round pick or even lower. This could be a concern for Ballard at 34 or 44.

If he were to continue to grow in Indy, Blacklock could be the missing piece in this Colts defensive line that struggled to provide pressure and stop the run many times last season. With no spots on the interior defensive line locked up heading into next season, Blacklock could have an immediate impact as well.

Blacklock is not a perfect prospect by any means, but he has the size and speed that scouts look for at the NFL level. His skill set projects to be better as a one-gap penetrator, which would fit well with the Colts.

He could be a great pick in the second round for Ballrd and company, but if they decide that defensive line is bigger need earlier in the draft, then there are certainly plenty of guys to choose from.

How to watch, listen, and stream Texas Women’s Basketball vs. TCU

Texas is looking to get back on the right track on the road against TCU. Here is how you can watch, listen, and stream the game.

Losers of four out of their last six games, Texas is looking to get back on the right track on the road against TCU. Currently ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll, the Horned Frogs have caught fire, winning their last three games.

Already playing once this season, TCU beat Texas in Austin by a bucket, winning 65-63. The Longhorns now face a difficult task of playing in Fort Worth, where the Horned Frogs have only lost twice this season.

Currently a 10 seed in Charlie Creme’s bracketology, Texas is running close to dropping out of the NCAA Tournament. A win against a ranked TCU team would do them a lot of good in securing an at-large bid.

Texans 2020 NFL draft target: TCU CB Jeff Gladney

Former TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney would be an ideal, young upgrade for the Houston Texans in the 2020 NFL Draft.

If the Houston Texans want to get younger at cornerback and are willing to use a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, then TCU’s Jeff Gladney has to be on their radar.

While Pro Football Focus lists Gladney as 33rd overall on their draft board, there is a chance he falls to the Texans. Consider that not every team is going to pick the best player available; some will draft according to need, which pushes talent down the board.

Gladney appears to be a solution to stopping deep balls.

Gladney has serious speed to burn and it showed up when opposing quarterbacks tried to test him downfield. On targets 20-plus yards downfield the past two seasons, Gladney has allowed only 10-46 receiving for 333 yards. That target number was considerably higher than any other cornerback on this list, as it’s often trial by fire in the Big-12. The fact that he only allowed 690 yards on 130 targets over the past two seasons is a massive difference from your average corner in the Big-12.

One question mark surrounding Gladney, and one that will be answered at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, is how the former Horned Frog can move with additional weight. Currently, Gladney is listed at 6-0, 183 pounds. By comparison, Bradley Roby was 194 pounds, but of comparable height. Houston may not need to have him play at that weight given their other starter, Johnathan Joseph, was listed at 185 pounds.

Houston will get a better idea of how to build improve their roster when they get a chance to scout the 2020 class along with meeting with their current players’ agents at the combine. If the Texans want to get younger, Gladney could be the solution. If he is available at No. 57 overall, deep in the second round where the Texans pick, Houston will have to think hard about taking the TCU product.

Jets trade back, add capital in NFL Network’s pre-combine mock draft

In NFL Network’s three-round mock draft, the Jets trade back with the Denver Broncos and add Alabama OL Jedrick Wills Jr. with the 15th pick

With the NFL Combine next week in Indianapolis, the NFL Network released a three-round mock draft that includes multiple trades.

In this particular mock draft, the Jets trade back in the first round and add an extra pick on Day 2 and Day 3. While this mock draft has the Jets maximizing their value, some of the picks may be too good to be true. Obviously, the combine will help clear up any uncertainties, but players like TCU’s Jeff Gladney and Michigan’s Josh Uche could be dark horse first-round picks after they perform in front of teams next week.

With that said, let’s take a look at who the Jets got in NFL Network’s pre-combine mock draft.

Round 1: Jedrick Wills Jr. | OT | Alabama

(Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports)

In this scenario, as projected by NFL Draft analyst Chad Reuter, the Jets trade back from No. 11 to No. 15 and pick up a third and fourth-round pick in the process.

The Broncos trade up for Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb, who was just recently mocked to the Jets by ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper, while the Jets trade back four spots and land arguably the draft’s best tackle in Jedrick Wills Jr.

Here’s Reuter’s explanation for the trade-back and the draft choice:

Wills lived up to the recruiting hype in 2019, showing nice athleticism in pass pro and destroying his man in the run game. The Jets pick up third- and fourth-round picks from the Broncos in this trade scenario.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, it’s highly unlikely that Wills will be on the board for the 11th pick, let alone the 15th.

If he were there at No. 11, the Jets probably wouldn’t trade back with Denver and risk him being poached by the Raiders, Colts and Buccaneers. That trio of teams could be in the market for a tackle depending on how free agency shakes out.

Prospects for Jags fans to watch: TCU DL Ross Blacklock

With the Jaguars desperate for some help in the trenches, Blacklock could be an option at pick 20 or 42 as the team looks for some big men.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have gotten themselves into some cap trouble this offseason, currently sitting over the league cap by approximately $3.4 million. Going into the new year, the Jaguars will likely be making some cuts in order to create some much-needed cap space. One of these players may be defensive tackle Marcell Dareus.

Dareus’ current cap hit for the 2020 season is 22.5 million, making his chances to remain on the team under his current salary nearly impossible. While it is possible for the Jaguars to release and then re-sign the former Pro-Bowl defensive lineman, the team likely still needs a long-term replacement for big No. 99.

One player that has recently been mocked to Jacksonville is Texas Christian defensive tackle, Ross Blacklock. Blacklock was arguably TCU’s best defensive player, along with cornerback Jeff Gladney. Blacklock (6-foot-4, 305 pounds) was a force on the inside for the Horned Frogs, racking up 9 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2019.

With the Jaguars desperate for some help in the trenches, Blacklock could be an option at pick 20 or 42 as the team looks for some big men.

So, what does this young Horned Frog bring to the NFL?

If there’s one thing Blacklock does well, it’s fighting off double teams. Numerous times throughout Blacklock’s film, I saw him shoot the gap on double teams, disrupting the play in the backfield. Of course, this helps free up other teammates in the trenches for favorable 1-on-1s.

Here is just one example of TCU’s No. 90 splitting a double team with his explosive and quick get-off.

Talk about quick.

The big man is explosive. In the clip below, he displays his top attribute again by lining up on the center’s left shoulder but having the quickness and agility to penetrate the A-gap on his opposite shoulder to make a play in the backfield.

It’s his quickness that will most resonate with teams and will likely help to solidify Blacklock’s status as a late Day 1, early Day 2 selection come April. With the NFL combine starting Sunday, expect Blacklock to put together a heck of a week in Indianapolis. If he does, you will start to see the Horned Frog be discussed as a round-one selection.

Blacklock also brings lateral quickness to his game, a definite strength for him as a run defender. In the clip below, Blacklock beats the offensive lineman off the line and has the lateral quickness to shut down outside zone runs with ease.

If Dave Caldwell and the rest of the Jacksonville front office decide to address the cornerback or offensive line positions early in free agency, fans could see the team take a hard look at Blacklock. With uncertainty surrounding Dareus, Blacklock could slide right in to replace him, forming a young solid defensive tackle duo along with former first-round selection, Taven Bryan.

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco seems to agree as he recently mocked Blacklock 20th overall to the Jaguars in his latest mock draft. Regardless of where he goes, Blacklock will be an instant playmaker for a team, and hopefully, it is in teal and black.

2020 NFL Draft: Why TCU’s Lucas Niang is a good fit for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks might need to replace Germain Ifedi, and TCU right tackle Lucas Niang might be the perfect fit in the 2020 NFL draft.

The Seattle Seahawks are entering the 2020 NFL draft with multiple positions of need, and a lot of picks to work with.

The team signed veteran tight end Greg Olsen, which helps solidify that spot, but they could still use more help along the offensive front.

With Germain Ifedi, George Fant and Mike Iupati all headed to free agency, the Seahawks will almost certainly need to use an early pick on an offensive lineman if they want to avoid spending huge sums of money on veterans.

One player the team could target in the early rounds is Texas Christian University right tackle Lucas Niang.

Niang made 27 starts at right tackle for TCU, earning praise for his mobility, strength and pure size as a six-foot-seven, 328 pound monster.

Scouting reports like his power at the point of attack, which should make him an asset in the run game, as well as his overall athleticism and strong lower half – traits that will serve him well as a pass blocker.

He has some footwork issues, and spent part of 2019 dealing with a hip injury, but most believe he will be a high-upside right tackle in the NFL – and that alone makes him a great match for the Seahawks if they don’t re-sign Ifedi this offseason.

Niang is projected by a handful of early mock drafts to go around the third round, although Seattle has never been afraid to reach for a player they believe fits their needs.

As such, Niang is a name worth keeping an eye on as draft season rolls on.
