WATCH: Dee Winters’ best highlights from TCU

Winters’ highlight reel from TCU was all the #49ers needed to see to justify his selection in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft

Linebacker Dee Winters was a major part of TCU’s path to the 2023 college football national championship game and should be able to fight for a spot on the San Francisco 49ers’ roster next season. The rangy linebacker has a great football IQ and can make opposing ball carriers pay when they enter his area on the field.

Though he’ll need time to adjust to the professional game as a sixth-round selection, Winters brings an exceptional highlight reel with him to the league after an outstanding career as a collegian. Check out his best plays below to get acquainted with his skillset ahead of the 2023 season:

49ers select TCU LB Dee Winters with No. 216 pick

The #49ers selected TCU linebacker Dee Winters with their 216th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft on Saturday

The San Francisco 49ers made a bold move with the 216th pick in the 2023 NFL draft, selecting Texas Christian University linebacker Dee Winters in the sixth round. Winters proved himself to be an impactful starter for the Horned Frogs in the team’s meteoric rise in the college football rankings last season and should be able to work himself into a roster spot in 2023.

Winters stands just under six feet tall and has enough speed to compensate for his lack of height. He is a rangy, rugged linebacker with the ability to wrap up even the most elusive ball carriers in space, especially in key situations.

Scouts value the experience that players like Winters bring to the table, especially at this stage in the draft process. He will likely need time to adjust to the speed of the NFL game, but as a late-round pick, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Watch for this established stud to make waves in training camp and quickly become a fan-favorite in the bay area.

2023 NFL draft: Watch best college highlights of new Chargers WR Derius Davis

Get familiar with Derius Davis, the newest member of the Chargers.

After taking a TCU receiver in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, the Chargers decided to take another on Day 3 in the fourth round. Derius Davis is the newest member of the team.

While he won’t be much of a contributor on offense early on, Davis is the favorite to be the return man, as he was arguably the best in college football in this department.

Check out his best collegiate highlights below to get more familiar with Davis’ game:

2023 NFL draft: Watch highlights of new Chargers WR Quentin Johnston

Quentin Johnston was a key part of TCU’s offense in 2022 and should be a boon for the Chargers’ passing game.

Quentin Johnston was among college football’s best receivers in 2022, and the Chargers wasted no time in entering their draft card to select him with the No. 21 overall selection on Thursday night.

A big-bodied wideout from TCU, Johnston should provide a spark to Los Angeles’ offense early in the 2023 season as he is a deep threat with the speed to stretch the field and the ability to outpace defenders in the open field with great explosiveness, wiggle and strength.

His exceptional highlight reel made him a fan favorite in Ft. Worth and should translate well to the NFL game. Check out some of his top plays below, and get acquainted with the Bolts’ newest receiving threat:

In addition to the visitors that The Clemson Insider reported earlier this week, we can now confirm that Clemson has another official visitor on campus this weekend.

TCI has learned that Brodey Conn, the son of safeties coach and Clemson’s new co-defensive coordinator, Mickey Conn, is looking at walking on both the football and baseball team.

The defensive back out of D.W. High School (Central, S.C.) is currently a TCU baseball commit. However, he’s on campus this weekend as a recruit and is currently weighing his options.

Brodey recently helped Daniel win its second straight State Championship last weekend.

2020 NFL Draft: Why TCU’s Lucas Niang is a good fit for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks might need to replace Germain Ifedi, and TCU right tackle Lucas Niang might be the perfect fit in the 2020 NFL draft.

The Seattle Seahawks are entering the 2020 NFL draft with multiple positions of need, and a lot of picks to work with.

The team signed veteran tight end Greg Olsen, which helps solidify that spot, but they could still use more help along the offensive front.

With Germain Ifedi, George Fant and Mike Iupati all headed to free agency, the Seahawks will almost certainly need to use an early pick on an offensive lineman if they want to avoid spending huge sums of money on veterans.

One player the team could target in the early rounds is Texas Christian University right tackle Lucas Niang.

Niang made 27 starts at right tackle for TCU, earning praise for his mobility, strength and pure size as a six-foot-seven, 328 pound monster.

Scouting reports like his power at the point of attack, which should make him an asset in the run game, as well as his overall athleticism and strong lower half – traits that will serve him well as a pass blocker.

He has some footwork issues, and spent part of 2019 dealing with a hip injury, but most believe he will be a high-upside right tackle in the NFL – and that alone makes him a great match for the Seahawks if they don’t re-sign Ifedi this offseason.

Niang is projected by a handful of early mock drafts to go around the third round, although Seattle has never been afraid to reach for a player they believe fits their needs.

As such, Niang is a name worth keeping an eye on as draft season rolls on.

Pete Carroll: Seahawks rookie L.J. Collier likely to play vs. Eagles

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes rookie defensive end L.J. Collier will contribute in Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Seattle Seahawks have not gotten much production out of their two most recent first-round picks.

Running back Rashaad Penny has taken a back seat to Chris Carson, while defensive end L.J. Collier has struggled to carve out a consistent role his rookie season, often finding himself listed as a healthy scratch. He has been active for six games and has only two tackles.

However, coach Pete Carroll indicated that Collier is close to earning a regular role on defense and said he hopes for Collier to play more in Week 12 against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

“We’d love for him to be out there,” Carroll said. “He needs to work. He won’t get better until he gets out there and can learn and contribute and all that. He’s likely to be playing this week. I want to say that every week because I want him out there and we need him out there.”

Collier was taken late in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft out of TCU. He was billed as a hybrid, Michael Bennett-style defensive lineman, but an ankle injury in training camp prevented him from playing in the preseason and hampered his development out of the gate.

That lack of development, along with a relatively healthy defensive front — especially with Ziggy Ansah and Jarran Reed in the mix — has kept Collier on the outside looking in.

“We’ve been so fortunate to have everybody available,” Carroll continued. “It’s just been opportunities. He’s working at it, getting extra coaching and extra work all the time. He’s right on the edge. We’d love to play him.”

Look for Collier to potentially get some snaps on Sunday in Philadelphia as the Seahawks aim to improve to 9-2 on the season.
